  1. Yes I just started the program this fall. As for what to do next, I believe you will just need to formally accept the spot in the program, and they will mail you an information packet. I actually found out I was accepted when I got my letter in the mail since I was getting on my own nerves checking online all the time, so I stopped lol. But yeah, when it says decision made: admit- institution, online that means you're in . In the hardcopy acceptance letter there is a form they want you to send back to them if you are accepting the spot, so I suppose that would be next the next step. They should mail you out a packet of info once they finalize the class list, although I never received mine in the mail, and I ended up just going up to the school to pick it up in person. That information will help you know what to do next. HTH
  2. Hey congratulations ya'll :balloons::ancong!::balloons:
  3. While looking around UMB's website, I clicked the link for the bookstore and saw that you can input your courses for the semester then they will give you a list of the required and recommended books. It was a pretty hefty list, but it does give you an idea of how much you'd end up spending if you bought the books from the bookstore.
  4. I applied for fall 2008 also, and I got accepted to the Baltimore campus. I'm also waiting for that information packet :anbd:. Friday I got my acceptance letter from Anne Arundel Community College, and they included some basic information pertaining to health and immunization records, the criminal background check, C.P.R class, and the orientation. It would have been nice if UMB did the same, but I don't know maybe they are trying to save paper and only send that information to the people who have committed to attending. Thanks to the information I've read on this site and on UMB's site, I think I can go back to patiently waiting for that packet. I've read enough to hold me over for now. I just hope they don't hold the orientation during the two weeks I will be out of town. Knowing my luck they will Congratulations to everyone else who got accepted.
  5. Thank you for the clinical, parking and uniform info. I'm sure the school will get around to providing this information, but knowing some of this now is really helpful, especially the clinical information. It shouldn't be a problem most of the time, but my husband is in the army and sometimes he is away from home, he's actually out of town now, and since this isn't where any of my other family or close friends live, finding that early morning babysitter will be a little more challenging. So it's good to have this extra time to work out the details. clhRN2b2010, this sounds pretty much like what they said at the info session I went to earlier this year. Not much information about clinicals, but they did emphasize the essay. I took heed and put a lot of work into it, and I think it paid off. The hardest part was trying to fit everything into 2 pages or less. Took me about a week to edit it down :chuckle.
  6. Thank you ac that was very helpful. Are there any clinical days during the first semester? Do they hold an orientation for new students? Is parking terrible? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really excited to start and I guess a few new questions just popped into my head. I was patiently waiting for more info from the school, but it's helpful to know some things in advance. Any information you have is appreciated. Thanks
  7. chlRN2b2010 please post the information you get about clinicals. I plan on attending in the fall, but I haven't received much information yet. I was pretty content with waiting, but seeing that 6:30 start time got me a little worried lol. I attended an info session in January, but they just kind of glazed over it, basically saying there were a variety of clinical sites and times. I didn't bother to ask more about it because I wasn't set on applying at that time. If 6:30 is the only option, I'll just have to make it work. But even 7 would be a little better for me daycare/school wise especially when my hub.'s job requires him to be out of town.
  8. I took the NET for UMB in March. My test didn't have any geometry on it. It didn't really go any farther than basic algebra, but for the most part it was fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages. I broke down and bought the NET study guide because math is not my strong point, and I also noticed the slight variations in the online test preps. The study guide gives a refresher on how to do the operations like adding/subtracting fractions and conversions etc, and there are 2 practice tests in the back of the book. My test was a lot like the practice tests in the book. I had 60 questions to complete in 60 minutes, and I got a 93 (thanks to the book). I actually think I could have gotten them all right, but that time limit put a little pressure on me. The math is pretty basic, but the study guide was a big help because I had forgotten how to do a lot of that stuff. The algebra was actually the only thing I didn't need to review since I recently completed college algebra. The book isn't cheap, and I'm sure you could review using other sources, but I did feel like what was in that book was the same type of problems that were on the test. Whichever method of review you use, time yourself when you take practice tests.
  9. Hi Shortstuff52, I don't really know what to tell you about Villa Julie. I thought about applying there, but the probation plus the cost of tuition made me decide against it. A program I was considering attending in a different state was on probation when I began taking my prereq's, and by the time I completed enough classes to apply, they lost their accreditation. This is mainly a concern for me because I move a lot, and I wanted to make transferring any credits I've earned as easy as possible, so I always look for schools with a national accreditation that is in good standing. However, I don't know what, if anything, their probation status would mean for your career or future opportunities. I also don't know if it's hard to get accepted into a BSN program after you have an ADN, although I imagine it's not. I've heard mostly good things about CCBC, and I guess UMB is sending out letters now. I go here: https://www.simsweb.umaryland.edu/pls/SIMS/bwskalog.P_DispLoginNon to check online. Just enter the login id and PIN that you created when you applied. You just click on the link to your 2008 application, and there is a mini profile of your app. including a line for the decision. HTH Good luck. I hope you got accepted.
  10. Hi everybody, I don't post on here too much, but I just got my acceptance letter from UMD-baltimore for fall 08 today :w00t:! I logged on hoping to find some info about their program and I noticed this thread. I have about a 3.68 GPA overall I believe. I had to transfer last fall because my hubby is in the army and we got stationed in MD, and I enrolled in AACC. Anyhow, when I attempted to combine the GPA from my first school and the semester at AACC 3.68 is what I came up with. I have a 3.5 science gpa, and I got a composite score of 84% on the NET. The reading bought the score down because I got a 93 on the math, which surprised me because it's not my best subject, and I got a 75 on the reading comp. I let myself get hung up on 1 question and ran out of time, big mistake. I ended up having to guess on the last 6 questions. I didn't think I had much of a chance because I have also heard that the only people who get in have 4.0's, and I did o.k. on the NET but I knew I could have done better, but I didn't have time to retake it before the deadline. I'm not sure I would have gone through all that again for a few more points anyway. I did work hard on my essay and maybe that's what did it for me, or maybe I just got lucky and applied with a group that didn't have many 4.0's in it. At the information session I attended in January they did say they were trying to move away from strictly going for the highest gpa and instead were trying to look at the whole application and gpa was just one part of it. I didn't really believe it at the time though lol. I just figured I'd apply and see what happens. UMD was my first choice so I'm very excited, and I still can't believe it. chlRN2b2010, I applied to AACC's program too. I don't know when they make their decision's, but I'm anxious to hear from them too.
  11. I get something weekly from the CC I applied to, but the only thing I have received from the state university is a letter notifying me that they are processing my application. I haven't gotten too obsessive about checking the mail (for now) because application deadlines haven't passed yet, but they will soon, this coming saturday for the CC and April 1 for the university. I know once those deadlines pass checking the mail will be my new pass time. I think I get so much from the CC because that's where I am enrolled now taking prereq's, and I keep getting info about registration deadlines and various activities going on at the school. I did wonder if it was a bad sign that the university hasn't sent me any information about their program, but I just submitted my application about 2 weeks ago, and they seem to want people to get as much information as they can from their website. In fact I will be able to find out if I am accepted or rejected online too. Hopefully that will keep me from attacking the mail man everyday once decision time is officially here :chuckle
  12. I took the NET for umb also. I was thinking about applying to ccbc too, but decided to just apply there in the spring if I don't get in anywhere this time around. Hopefully that won't be necessary though, trying to think positive thoughts. I just mailed off all my application materials for the schools I'm applying to, so now I guess the waiting begins.
  13. I just took the NET about 2 weeks ago, and it did have a science section that was different from the science reading comprehension section. There were only about 15 questions in that section, and I wasn't expecting it either. However, I don't think the score form the science section is used as part of the entrance criteria, and I don't think every NET test has a science section on it. I guess it depends on what the school requires applicants to be tested in. I didn't study for the science section, and I got 73%. Which is better than I thought I did, but I know I would've done better if studied a little bit. They have a breakdown of the questions on my score report, and it had: 5 anatomy and physiology questions 4 biology questions 3 cellular biology questions 3 chemistry questions They were all pretty basic, and if you have already taken these subjects, I'm sure a quick review of your notes or text books would be sufficient. Also you may want to contact the school and see if they have science on their version of the test. They may not require it, but either way good luck on your test. I'm sure you'll do just fine.
  14. Well I am not a nurse, still taking prereq's , but I did live in Puerto Rico for 3 years, had a baby there, trips to the ER, Dr. visits etc. I would call it an antiquated version of the U.S healthcare system. For example, no father's allowed in the new born nursery, no epidural's for normally progressing labor, just showing up early at the Dr.'s office and waiting possibly all day to be seen. I had to take my newborn to 4 different pediatric clinics in an attempt to get a lab drawn, no one could do a good heal stick or hit a vein. when my daughter was hospitalized for asthma, an adult had to stay with a child patient at all times including overnight, but they only provided a crib for the patient and 1 uncomfortable chair, and no males could stay overnight, not even Dad. This was 3 years ago, however I doubt much has changed. I also lived in a smaller city, it's possible things were different near San Juan. Putting those things aside I generally received good care, and they did have some places that seemed to offer the latest technology, but most placed were pretty outdated.
