Stop calling me kid...
If you haven't told him that you do not like to be called kid you need to. Just explain that you feel disrespected and hopefully it stops. If it doesn't stop kindly remind him again. I do mean kindly, you don't want to make any waves in the workplace. If it still doesn't stop, and it really bothers you that bad, talk to a supervisor. Also, I know that it is frustrating, but you should give him a little bit of time to get out of the habbit. Not months, but maybe a week or two. Hope this helps. Good luck!

There is a dietary section on your careplan. I used Williams' Essentials of Nutrition and Diet Therapy (ninth edition). Inside of this book there are diseases such as ulcerative colitis, cirrhosis and epilepsy for example. Under all of these there is diet therapy for each. For example cirrhosis... It states suggested energy needs, protein intake, sodium intake, texture that the food should be if esophageal varices are present; carb intake, fat intake, and vitamin and mineral needs for the patient. These are all things that need to be included in your careplan. Now I'm not sure if you just take nutrition how deep you will go into each of these because I had nutrition and diet therapy together, but I found it a helpful referance for my careplan. My resident had a colectomy, and illeostomy. She also suffered from asthma and osteoarthritis. I found all of my dietary needs inside of this book. I found it a very valuable source since everything you write has to have a reputable source and can't just be picked up off of a dot com website. I hope this helps.

How old is too old?!?!?
I go to school with ladies that are around your age and maybe older. You are not too old. Go for it! If nursing is your dream then don't give it up for anything including age. It is a huge committment and hey, you might have the advantage of having older kids. I started when I was 32 and now at 34 have one year left and that is only because it was my first time and I had to get my pre-reqs done. I hope that you go for it. You never know what you can do till you try. If you love nursing you can do it! That thought has driven me through some hard semesters. But, I do love it and I'm not giving up till I graduate or they kick me out! :stdnrsrck:

i think that all schools are different. i know that at my school i had to take nutrition, sociology, two psych classes, and ethics. some of the lpns that i work with are going back for their asn and they are taking some of the classes that i already had to take before my core nursing classes.

LPN Gets No Respect
I am currently working for my LPN and I have say that in my little state of ND they tried to eliminate LPN's entirely. That didn't work and soon there was another nursing shortage. I have heard that they were trying to eliminate LPN's again, but I think there would probably be another nursing shortage and LPN's will become valuable again. Also I know that in my school you can get you RN after nine additional months of school after passing your boards. Oh and by the way there is no difference in pay between a ASN and BSN. The biggest differance is that if you have your BSN you can do more managerial stuff. One more thing that I would like to add is that LTC is NOT that bad. I work as a CNA in LTC and I love it. I love having an actual relationship with my patients and the fact that I can get to know them and their families.

Psych clinical fear
I do work with patients in a nursing home and a lot of them have mental problems. So for me it isn't that I am working with the mentally ill, but maybe the new setting. I don't know, clinicals in general freak me out! But I am a big girl and I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks for your replies! keep them coming!

Psych clinical fear
I am just starting my psych rotation and I am a little intimidated by the thought of clinicals. Does anybody have any information or past experiences that could help me out?

Should a nursing instructor tell a student they are not nursing material.
I agree with you. I have known people that were very smart but just didn't have what it takes. Nursing school is tough and if you are not prepared for the worst then you gotta go. I also think that a teacher would have to be stupid to make a comment based soley on a weight issue. That just beggs for reprimanding and if any teacher cares about her job she will use better judgement than that.

If you could study before A & P I, what would you have done to get ahead before it??
I have gotten a n Anatomy coloring book and you have to label and fill in the blanks. Also it has the answers and suggests ways to color the pictures that are consistant. it is called Anaotmy coloring book by Kaplan medical it was like $20.00 but worth all of it.

Online Classes...
I have had to get a proctor for all of my online classes. I have never had an open book test online.

Online Classes...
Lucky you! All of the classes I have taken have been very involved. This summer I took Western Civ. and had to do a 500 word report on a subject from the book along with three discussion questions and three responses to others. On the week of the tests I had to do all of the discussion and responses and also a 250 word report. It wasn't the piece of cake I expected it to be.

Online Classes...
I took a couple of them last year and this last summer. I had a hard time with the summer class because they are so short, but I also had a hard time with my class on campus too. I think the biggest thing is not to get lazy. I had to set aside days that I was going to do my homework just like if I was going to class or work. I learn a lot from the lectures so I had a hard time with the class that didn't include a lecture.
