desales university??
Hi John! I'm glad to see another person does exist! I'm starting the Accelerated BSN program in just two weeks. I'm actually heading out to my apartment in PA today, to move some things in! I'm from NJ (Clinton area) but thought to commute with class from 8am-5 every day would be too much. I have reached out to post people here on this thread, and responded with as much information as possible...to pay it forward as well. I'll be curious to learn of your experiences along the road to nursing as well! Thanks for your reply! Have a lovely weekend!

desales university??
Hi Everyone! I don't know if anyone has started another thread, so I figured I'd post here! I was accepted to DeSales University accelerated BSN program for May of 2009. I just wanted to say hello and congrats to any fellow students that may post on this thread! I'm also in the market for housing/a roommate if any workable situation arises, I've already begun to look for myself! If anyone is interested, feel free to PM for more information! Best Wishes, Brigitte

desales university??
Hi! I'm interested in learning more about DeSales as well! In addition, what are the living arrangments like around the area? I've visited Center Valley before, the campus, but I'm an out of stater (across the river from NJ)...do you think the feat of finding suitable housing is likely? I'm willing to travel up to 20 minutes or so to campus, but I'm very unfamiliar with the area?... Any info you can pass along would be great! Thanks a bunch!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi All! To those still waiting, my thoughts and the utmost of sympathy is with you...the waiting process is super agonizing, I feel your pain! I'm crossing my fingers for all of you! And, perhaps in this case, no news yet is good news.... To answer the posted question, NYU does accept with one or more pre-reqs pending. I have to complete Chemistry this summer (starts Monday), and they sent me an unofficial transfer transcript. When the required classes are completed before fall start-up you just have to send transcripts and documentation indicating you've passed the required courses. Unless you have 3+ pre-reqs pending and your other pre-req grades are poor, I don't imagine it will make a huge difference. I believe NYU looks at a variety of factors, but weighs heavily your pre-req GPA, and your undergrad GPA, then other important variables, work experience, background, etc. If it makes anyone feel better, I did not come from a science background but rather, a liberal arts degree with a focus in health science. If I can be of more help, just let me know! Good luck to those still waiting (fingers crossed) my prayers are with you! :heartbeat

Hey Kim, I just wanted to extend a BIG thanks for answering all of those questions, they're really helpful! I really appreciate it as I'm sure the other posters will as well! I'm sure I or others will certainly be asking more questions in the future! Enjoy the rest of your semester, thanks for your help...and maybe we'll cross paths in September! Best of luck!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi Friends, It's me again. I agree with the rest of the posters....I'm going to call housing tomorrow and see if I can iron out some details. I'll be sure to pass the info along. I was an RA for 3 years of college, and spent four policing the freshman football team, my days of undergrad partying are LONG and OVER. Has anyone discovered if singles are more expensive? I haven't been able to find anything out on the website about how they assign roommates if people have them, it only says studio apartments for some buildings with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms. Anyone else have luck? Okay, I should stop posting....I'm avoiding schoolwork.

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi all, To echo more seasoned posters, you def don't need your car. While I'm no expert on NYC, I can say that as much as I've been there, and for all my family that live and work there, a car is more of an inconvenience and will be a greater burden than if you use mass transit. I live in NJ, and don't know the city entirely, but mass transit is easy to use, the subway system takes a little bit of getting used to, and buses are also pretty good, those going in and out of the city aren't bad either. Jersey is also a hop, skip and pathway train away. You can take the Jitney bus from 42nd Street, (BROADWAY!) Port Authority, a Path train into Hoboken, or a Ferry (which is my fave).....all into and coming from NJ. My uncle has been a realtor for over 25 years in NYC and even he well advises to utilize campus housing. Even I, who can live with my grandmother across the Hudson in Jersey (10 minutes from the city) have decided to bite the bullet and pay the extra expenses for housing. I think in the long run, it will be well worth it and I'll avoid the stress of the morning commute. I also have family that live in Hoboken, Fort Lee, Jersey City and Guttenberg, all on the Hudson, with the city in clear view. For me to live with them and commute into NYC, daily, it can take up to an hour and half, by bus....it's just that crowded. For those intending to find cheaper housing, you won't find much cheaper housing in NJ across the river, in fact Hoboken is just as bad as midtown, NYC at rent close to almost and exceeding $1,000 a month. Eeeks. Friends of mine who both teach in NYC pay $1,200 a month just for housing, excluding utilities, that's per person and way too rich for my blood. Midtown is pricey as well, I have a cousin who lives there and most in the area are working professionals, some grad students, but very few in his apt. I consider Midtown anywhere between about 59th street (Queensboro Bridge) and upward. There is also housing in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx...which are a bit of a ways away, but not much. Cheaper options may be available there, but safety and transportion may be an issue. I wouldn't consider living in either area without roommates. Sunnyside Queens has some nice sections...all are options to "google" and use craigs list for...I hope this helps. I'm not super familiar with the center of the NYU campus, but my friends who've attended there say the NYU busing system is fantastic, and and the furthest dorm is within a 10-15 minute bus ride. I think poster Joe S mentioned this too. The Washington Square section is by far one of the prettiest parts of NYU...I always see all the purple NYU flags outside of buildings. And, consider clinical sites. All the hospitals in NYC are amazing. I know they use NYU Medical Center, Columbia Presbyterian, Monte Fiore (in the Bronx....which is one of the largest bed-sized hospitals in the Northeast...maybe near 500 plus beds) and maybe Bellevue, closer to Harlem, but don't quote me on that one. If you search these and a map of NYC you will see all can be accessed without a vehicle, in fact, I would not reccomend driving in NYC unless you must. I hope I've been of some help, if any. And if anyone every needs to escape the city, you can always come to my home. I'm just an hour my train and surrounded by suburbia. PM if anything!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi Everyone! Congrats gain to everyone who has been accepted! And for those still waiting, my fingers are crossed for you, hang in there, I wish you the best of luck. Regarding housing, would anyone want to room together? Is anyone looking for roomies? I'm going to inquire about housing this week...and once I get the scoop, I'll fill everyone in on what I've learned. I plan on at least using housing for the first two semesters, which seem the hardest academically and I figure the convenience of living in the area will lighten the load a little. Let me know if anyone is interested! PM and I'll give you my email address! Super excited!!!!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Thank you everyone! I wish you the best of luck as well, my fingers are crossed for all of you! I know what it's like to wait.... The letter came in a big envelope. It contained a purple NYU folder and the acceptance letter, with a transcript evaluation and a brocheure. Duke! I hope you hear within the next week...it's such a shame that they delayed the process for you....I hope you hear soon! As for finanicial aid, I have not heard anything...I'm going to mill through some paperwork today and hopefully make some phonecalls. I'm already trying to rationalize the expense in my head...we can do it though! I have faith! Loans, grants, whatever it takes... Keep me posted everyone! I'm praying for you!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi Everyone, I just came home this evening from class and found a letter in my mailbox. The acceptance letter was dated Friday, May 25, and was postmarked from Long Island City, New York. I phoned one week ago and they said letters would be sent out the following week...so for those still waiting, this should give you some timeframe. I'm so excited! I've been waiting for this for such a long time! I plan to visit with someone from admissions next week if I'm able to schedule something. I want to get as many details as possible and seek help from whomever. Thank you to everyone for your advice, help, support, etc. :heartbeatYou've made the waiting period less agonizing.... I'll say big prayers for those still waiting.... I can't wait to make friends with everyone else! Here's to one big adventure....

Has anyone heard from SHU- georgian court or TJU FACT program
Hi All, Just wondering if ANYONE heard anything yet....I'm still waiting! I spoke with admissions last week and they said we "should" be hearing "very soon." No definitive date or time was given. Has anyone else heard any news? I can't take the waiting!!!! I hope SOMEONE has good news soon!

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi All! For those in Cali and elsewhere, If you do decide to attend NYU and cannot afford the campus based housing, anything within that section of NYC will be rather astronomical...and that holds true for the rest of the city, believe my I've tried to find housing for summer employment I had there...but ended up commuting from NJ. If you decide to live within a vicinity that allows you to commute, consider checking out craiglist for roomies, or potential 15monthers as well....hopefully they will be many. -certain sections of Brooklyn and Queens (Sunnyside) are slightly more affordable (my friends pay $550.00 per month, including utilities) -even some areas in the Bronx are nice as well -a commute from Jersey City in NJ is not bad (it's a matter of perhaps a bus ride, ferry, or path over into the city..depending upon your location) -even Guttenberg, Fairfield, Hackensack, and Fort Lee, NJ are very doable commutes if you plan it out accordingly with mass transit Although, coming from out of state, there is nothing I imagine like living in NYC! Good luck to us all! :)

Congrats to you! That's so exciting! Glad to hear someone has heard good news! I hope I find out one way or another soon!

Has anyone heard from SHU- georgian court or TJU FACT program
Congrats! TJU is a great program! I didn't apply there because I'm still in college, and graduating in May...it'd have been too much of a brain crunch to start up school that soon. Good luck as you embark on an experience. If I don't get accepted to the schools of which I applied, I may consider applying there in the future. That's a fantastic institution, with many options once you've gotten your RN! Hooray for you!:bowingpur

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi All... Good luck as the waiting continues! I'm from NJ, a small farm town, so commuting into the city would not be an option...I'd have to find housing. But, for those coming from out of the metropolitan area, good luck to you! I wish you the best and a crack at NYC which is fabulous for innumerable reasons.:nuke: I grew up in the area, so it's not as big of a deal, I contemplated applying to schools on the west coast, just for a change....but ended up processing applications locally. Here's to waiting, and good news for all! For those from out of state/east coast area, PM if you have any questions, I've worked in the city and some of the fam lives there! NYC is easy to navigate and less intimidating after awhile than other big cities..:nuke:

NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008
Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the information! I haven't heard anything yet, and no phone call....:uhoh21: But, either way, I'm hopeful to hear soon, it will make my decision that much easier. I too applied in February. I think I processed my application in the second or third week of February...it was super close to the March 1st deadline. Regarding Pre-reqs, I had all As, except for a B in Stats. I have yet to take Chemistry, which I'm currently enrolled in for the summer. Undergrad G.P.A is a 3.7 right now...in Health Communication/Gender Studies. I'm actually still an undergrad too...graduating in a few weeks! Thank goodness! I applied to NYU, SHU, UMDNJ, Villanova...and depending upon my acceptances/rejections, I may apply to several schools elsewhere for a Jan. start date. It'd be nice to get accepted into NYU, but the admission process may be flukey...either way, I'm keeping my head up and heart open! Good luck to all applicants! I wish you the very best! I'll keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

Has anyone heard from SHU- georgian court or TJU FACT program
Hi! No, I attended an Open House way back in October...on the main campus. I did visit with a program director though about a month ago. Commuting from New Brunswick may not be that bad...it's a crap shoot with Route 18 though. If I lived in that area, I may have considered commuting as well. For me it's about 76 miles, and Route 287 is a killer in the morning. I live just past the Somerville and Bridgewater area, which unfortunately leaves me in the predicament of finding housing, provided SHU is the only school that accepts me. I assume you went to the Open House, what did you think/find? Were there alot of potential applicants there? And the waiting continues....

Has anyone heard from SHU- georgian court or TJU FACT program
Hi Poohbear! Glad to see your response! SHU Georgian Court is my first choice as well. I too live an hour away...and the commute may be hairy for me, I'd be taking 287 to the parkway, which is quite the nightmare! I'm crossing my fingers I get accepted, in which case, I may consider looking for housing down in that area. I've been looking online at the price of rent, and housing, etc. Although, I've heard prior students have commuting as far as NYC, so it is doable. Where would you be commuting from? Feel free to [PM me]...I'd love to make friends as the dreadful waiting process continues! Best of luck, I'll do my best to keep in touch if I hear any additional info as we wait.... Fingers crossed and best of luck!:wink2:

Hi All!!! I applied to NYU's program as well. The information above holds true as I have contacted admissions several times also. Just wanted to wish everyone luck during the agonizing wait time.... Lots of luck to all! :wink2:

Has anyone heard from SHU- georgian court or TJU FACT program
Hi! I applied to SHU-Georgian Court as well. I spoke with several admissions counselors it attempts to find out when notifications would be received. The scoop is such: Applicants are not reviewed on a rolling basis, and the deadline for all intended candidates is up until April 15. On April 17, admissions committees from SHU review applicants....an interview process is then scheduled from there after, and letters are sent out on or about the first week in May. It's a long, dreadul wait, isn't it? Well, here's to waiting and the best of luck?! SHU Georgian Court is my first choice, what about you?

UMDNJ Accelerated BSN students
Hi Everyone, I wanted to know if anyone had applied to UMDNJ and received "conditional acceptance" prior to having all pre-reqs completed? I have a Chem course that will be completed as of June 23...and I took a chance and applied for Fall 2008 admission. I received an informational card in the mail indicating that I needed "Chemistry course" completion and "Degree Verification" (I'm still an undergrad and officially graduate May 10, 2008). I've phoned several times and left message, etc. No one has yet to definitively answer my inquiries about conditional acceptance? Has anyone been in this fun boat before? Thanks for your help! Hang in there future nurses!:redbeathe
