  1. The books we need for Patho, Pharm, and research are listed on the Medical bookstore website. See you guys in a few weeks! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
  2. Just called about booklist and they said that it may be posted on UBLEARNS before class begins, otherwise we would get it from the instructor on the 1st day of class.
  3. I am going to Buffalo to get my ID on Friday and I plan on calling the dept. Thursday and ask about the booklist. Will let you know what I find out.
  4. Some PACU units are ICU overflow and take alot of the more critical surgery patients and some schools accept this as "ICU/critical care" experience. My suggestion would be to call and/or meet with the program director of a few programs that you are interested in and explain your situation and goals (CCRN etc.) and ask them if they would accept PACU or not. Even if they say no, you can get an idea of exactly what the particular prgram is looking for and the program director will also know that you are serious about wanting to become a CRNA. It doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck!
  5. Those seem fine. My program wanted 3 recommendations. One from a professor of my undergraduate nursing program, and a supervisor specifically. I had those mentioned as well as another from a CRNA and my PCC from my CCU unit. I think you need to get recommendations from people you work with/shadow. They will be able to give a first hand account of your abilities. The people who read recommendation letters know a generic one when the see it. Good luck! nk- University at Buffalo starting Fall 2010
  6. Hey, do any of you guys know what ARR means on the schedule for nur 515?
  7. No book list, but the classes with Course numbers. I will e-mail you the info if you want. PM me your personal e-mail.
  8. Thanks so much for the info. I feel a bit better. :)
  9. Hey clssmates! I just got off the phone with UB and I ws told that they should be sending out information to us (probably by mail) about registration mid July. I was told that they are making some changes with the course numbers. Hope you all are having a good summer. - nathalie
  10. I haven't heard anything yet. I am with you, I would like to get the book list and order my books online (cheaper than bookstore) ahead of time. I really don't like this last minute stuff.
  11. Someone said that the program director should be contacting us this month.
  12. There are a good number of them that do not require the GRE if you have a certain GPA. UPENN, Our Lady of Lourdes, and University at Buffalo are justa few off the top of my head. Got to the AANA website for the list of schools and check out the websites you are interested in. Hope this helps.
  13. Does anyone know how many people will be in the class with us?
  14. Hey Alisha, I called the help desk at UB and had to explain to them that I was accepted to the Graduate anesthesia program, didn't have my UB card, and that I wasn't from the area and needed access to UBIT. They had me e-mail/fax a photo ID and they then gave me my password. When you log into MyUB, there is a link to the UB mail (UB e-mail). Hope this helps. nat
  15. Alisha, Thanks! I am new to the area and live in Rochester, so I really don't know much about BUffalo. I plan on commuting from here. Did you get your e-mail on your personal e-mail? I havn't gotten it yet. Thanks so much for the info. If I hear anything, I will let you know. Hope you have a great weekend!
  16. Hey! I will be happy to help! My GPA was 3.7+ (not exactly sure), I did not take the GRE, UB doesn't require it depending on your GPA. I have 7 years experience as a RN (5+ in OR, 2 in Endoscopy-overplapping my OR experience, and 2 in CCU/ICU). I shadowed a CRNA. I was always too scared to take the CCRN, but I am sure if you have it, it will look really good. I came from New Orleans and did alot of volunteering (after hurricane Katrina/Rita) and they seemed to like that. If there is anything else I can help ou with, let me know. Good luck!! nathalie
  17. Hey, it was my pleasure. The Program director and Associate program director were both present during my interview. They both asked me questions. They did not offer to show me around, but they did give me an overview of the program and asked if I had any questions about it. My interview was not too long (about 30 minutes give or take a few). Not too bad. Good luck!!! nathalie:up:
  18. It really depends on the hospital. The hospital I worked at hires new grads in "specialty" areas like critical care. If you are not sure, contact the Unit director of the specific unit you are interested in and speak with them and let them know your interest. I personally would not mention that you are interested in CRNA school.
  19. My advice is to get into a unit with strong emphasis on cardiac, PA caths, vasoactive drips, and vents. Best of luck!
  20. Hello. I interviewed there in May 2008. The interview was basically get-to-know you questions. They did ask me to tell them the types of patients I typically took care of and to tell them about some of the vasoactive drips. When I mentioned I took care of patients with balloon pumps, they asked me to tell them about IABPs. So the clinical portion of the interview is basically lead/dictated by you. What I remember most about the interview is that the interviewers did not smile at all. I am from the South and people smile all of the time and that struck me as unusual. I am not attending UPENN, but I start University at Buffalo in the fall of this year. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you. nathalie
