:bow:I finally got my letter stating I passed on Friday. I had to retake my skilss because my nerves got the best of me on my vitals. Afte much practice I retook the skills and when I did the vitals the tester gave me a big smile and said well done. I am glad that part is over with. Erin Kentucky:up:

I was hired on recently at Jewish downtown. I am trying to decided if if I am going to take the position. I live in Frankfort and am trying to figure out if gas and sitter will balance out of the pay. I also got accepted at St. Joes in Lexington but the position was 7p-7a and I could not take it. Thanks for the help. I took the skills test over and by the look on the testers face and her not asking me if i wanted to take my vitals over I would say I passed. I still have to wait 2-4 weeks to get my results. I am so happy:yeah:

I am retaking my skills Teusday. The only part I messed up was the vitals. I know I have said on other threads that it was nerves and not enough practice. I have gotten BP down but when I count the pulse (For 1 min. testing rule) I seem to loose the pulse. I can find it no problem but then feel as if I have missed a pulse and it really messes me up. Any suggestions besides practice. Besides my husband and kids are getting a little tired of handing me their left arm. Thanks and wish me luck! Erin

I have just come upon your response to taking blood pressure. I took my state cert. test a few weeks ago and passed written and 4 0f 5 skills the 0ne skill was vitals that I FAILED. That is how the word appeared to me on my results. The main reason for not getting it was not enough practice throught my CNA course and the clinicals that I recieved. Nerves got the best of me and that is not like me. It is nice to hear that other people have some difficulty with this. I will check out the web sites. Thanks, Erin Ky

I am not sure where you are located? In Ky you will make more money in a hospital setting (generally) than you would in ltc. The chances of getting a hospital job without any experience is really hard to do. I know have been trying for over a month now. I am not giving up my search just yet. I am sticking with persistance!!!! You can call the HR department of the hospital and someone can help you with any questions you may have pertaining the job. Good luck!

The only problem with being pregnant while being a CNA is the amount of lifting you will do. This is a very demanding job on the body, pregnancy is even more demanding. As a mother of three under 6 years old I would say you can do what you put your mind to. Your body will have a limit however no matter what just be careful and take care of you and the baby! Have you tried looking @ any of the kctcs programs It seems that some of the campus have the program. Also, there is Spencerian but I do not think that their pricing is very fair.

I just ran across your post. I found out last week that I passed my written and failed 1 out of the 5 skills. Mine was vitals and it was all nerves and not enough practice. I made me sick to my stomach because I know how to do vitals my nerves got the best of me and know I get to retake:cry: Glad to hear I am not the only one. It truly was a bummer to get that letter. It took my school about a week to get me into the testing and my test results took three weeks. I am in KY some people have 2 weeks and other have said 4 weeks here.

Walmart has all those things @ a cheap price. I had to buy the cuff and scope to practice with for the cert. test. Not nearly enough practice throughout the class. I searched alot of prices and they were the best for those items. The scrubs are pretty comparable in prices everywhere.

I have been putting applications in for just over a month now to all the hospitals within 60 miles. I must have applied for 70 openings. Every response(if I even got a response) said they were going with someone with more qualifications. Today I got a call from a huge hospital in Louisville,ky and I have an interview next week. So, my suggestion is to keep trying and keep trying. Also like the others said list ALL of your qualifications and the key is to take what you can get just to get your foot in the door. Erin

I think that being a CNA is a great place to start. You get a great feel and the basics of nursing from this job. It is a start and can really prepare you for what to expect in your career. GOOD LUCK

How is t that they can they give you a cert. in one day when other classes are much longer than a day?

I am looking for a job as a CNA would be nice to find somewhere to work while I go through the lpn program and finish. It will be a while before I start the program though. I have just completed the CNA course and took the state cert. test last week.... Still waiting to find out how it went. I posted a thread on the Ky. page @ allnurses.com asking about taking those additional coureses and if they would be worth money spent. No was pretty much the response. I am willing to take them if it will help get me a job. I am however not willing to spend the money to take the classes if they won't help me get a job.

Do they hire cna's wanting to become nurses in doctor's offices? I have heard yes before but I am not sure how to find them. Where I live in Ky. they do not advertise for dr.'s office jobs in the paper. Any suggestions? Thanks Erin:bowingpur

The course you were looking at online was it maybe a CNA class? The 8 weeks and price go more along with nurse asst. CNA in my state is required for a lot of lpn and rn. Also, I think it is a great first step into the nursing field. Erin. Ky

I think that is great advice. I would rather not work in ltc and am trying my hardest to get a hospital job(not any luck though). Those are are good reasons to get what you can out of ltc.

I agree with the keep trying. I have applied to every postion within my qualifications at every hospital. My luck would be that I am located between three major universities with nursing programs and several cc and privates schools. The hospital jobs need plenty of experience or an in from your nursing advisor. Unfortunatly I have neither.....YET! All in due time. Hope your state cert. went well and thanks for the response. I just took my state cet. test this past Teusday and I am now loking to find a job. I am also applying to getting into nursing school for Jan.. I really would like to find a job outside of the nursing home. I would love to work in the hospital. I live in Kentucky and I have applied for alot of the hospital jobs within 60 miles.
