LPN to RN at Ocean County and working
Thanks so much for your reply. I am assuming you went on a Sat and did your homework during the week after work? Did you work full time? Just wondering how much homework there is. If it's anything like LPN school it's a lot!! i am curious if it is considered full time because I would need to get a student loan and I was told that you must be a full time student. Do you mind telling what the program is called so I can look into it? PS is this AFTER the pre req's? thanks so much for giving me a little hope :)

LPN looking for a change
Hi DN RN, i am an LPN with clinical and administrative experience. I am currently enrolled in school for EHR and ICD-10. I was wondering what kind of facility you are in and did the LPN you work with have experience? I'm just trying to figure out what direction to move towards when I get my certification in 5 months. Any advice would be appreciated! PS I'm located in New Jersey and am wondering what the salary is for that type of position also.

NY/NJ reciprocity for LPN's??
Hello, I haven't found anything posted recently. I am an LPN working in NJ and want to maintain my NJ license, but also be able to work in NY. Do they offer reciprocity yet or would I have to apply for a license in NY also? Is there any testing or requirements involved....also does anyone know how long this might take? Thanks so much!!!!

LPN to RN at Ocean County and working
Jules A, Did you have a "flexible" job that allowed you to do your classes and clinicals? Most jobs won't allow time off if clinical are required all day at a hospital I'm very interested to hear your feedback if you wouldn't mind sharing! Thanks

LPN to RN at Ocean County and working
Thank you just beachy. I believe this program just started. I know a lot of friends had to go to Brookdale because OCC wasn't offering it. Maybe I should just post a general question regarding LPN to RN at a community college and ask if it's possible to complete while working more than 16 hours? PS I'm so tired of this rainy weather. This summer has been very wet

LPN to RN at Ocean County and working
I was reading the OCC nursing program description and it suggests that you work a MAXIMUM of 16 hours per week. Do you find this accurate? Is it possible to go from LPN to RN while still holding down a job? I have a mortgage to pay

Can anyone suggest how to find grants for an LPN to obtain RN
I suppose the question I really have is do I have to search for grants myself or are they automatically offered (if available when you fill out FAFSA)? People have told me to go online, that there are so many grants available that most are not aware of. I appreciate everyone taking the time to offer guidance!!

I own my home and I'm single so I have to work to pay my mortgage and bills. I have heard there are grants available to help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

unified license without having to endorse?
Thank you both for the information. I thought it might be too good to be true. Have a nice evening :)

unified license without having to endorse?
Hi everyone, I just read an article about nursing licenses becoming "unified" so you are able to practice under one license in any state. Is there any validity to this? If I am correct there are also states that joined with other states that will allow you to practice without obtaining a separate license for another state. Does anyone know if New Jersey is one of those states that participates? Thanks!!!!

Can nurses collect unemployment?
Thank you all so much for your replies. Can anyone suggest what an appropriate response would be when on an interview and asked why I am no longer employed by XYZ? I know honesty is the best policy, but I don't want to dig myself into a hole by an inappropriate response. Is there a way I can answer the question truthfully...yet not make them question my abilities as a nurse? Thanks!

Can nurses collect unemployment?
Just to add, more importantly....will I ever be able to obtain another position? How do I explain my termination when applying at a new facility. With nursing is it one strike and your out??

Can nurses collect unemployment?
Hello all, I am a nurse who was working in a LTC facility in NJ for 11 months. This was my FIRST clinical nursing job. I was fired for not charting that I did not remove a lidoderm patch and the nurse who came on after me saved the patch and turned it in to the DON. I have received a few write up's in my (almost) year at this facility. It was explained that it was to be expected for a new nurse to make errors and that I was being educated. I never endangered a patient, missed signatures in the MAR, forgetting to remove a patch, etc. Will unemployment deny my claim considering it MISCONDUCT? I never willfully disregarded policies are intended any harm. I was never late, never called out sick and only used 2 personal days while I was working there Any advice please?

time for a change florida or nj?
Hello, I am currently working as an LPN in a LTC facility in central jersey. I don't see any opportunities opening for LPN's. No more MDS, Case Mgmt or Pharma. It seems everyone wants RN/BSN. So, considering going to Brookdale CC for my ADN (which is still not great but better than nothing) or moving to Florida Ft. Laudy-Miami area, where I've always wanted to live. Anyone working LPN in Florida? What are the opportunities, pay, cost of a nice 2 bedroom condo in a nice area? Any help would be appreciated dee

Anyone work at St Barnabas? (benefits question)
Can you go to any school or does it have to be an approved school? I am currently an LPN working in LTC and would like to apply to Barnabas and attend the Brookdale CC for the LPN to RN fast track. Am I correct that I would have to be an employee for a year to be eligible? I want to start ASAP, maybe I will start the first year and pay myself or see if I can obtain grants. Thanks for any guidance in advance!!!!!

trying to figure out schedule
I'm sorry, but I don't understand, why do you only have off one day?

trying to figure out schedule
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me an example. I truly appreciate it. I work now at a clinic and do 4 10's. I always have off Sat, Sun and Mon. Three day weekend is nice, but the first day is always spent resting from 4 10 1/2 days in a row, plus the pay isn't great and I feel I am losing my clinical skills. Thanks again.

trying to figure out schedule
Hello, I know this is a stupid question, but I just can't figure it out. It's probably so simple, yet I don't get it. Let's say I work 3-11 shift, mandatory every other weekend. If they give me off...say MON and FRI, that would mean I would work the weekend, correct. Now, the next week I work MON and FRI, so I work the entire week through and have off the weekend. Is this right? The weekend I work I wouldn't have MON and FRI off becase the next weekend I have off so I would have to work straight through correct? Example if I have off Feb 2 and 6, then work 7 & 8, I wouldn't get 9th or 13th because I would have off the 14th and 15th but then I would have off the 16th and 20th so I would get a 3 day weekend? I don't know why this is so confusing to me. Can someone please give me a sample schedule so I can understand? Thanks

wondering about CE's
Thank you very much. Will BON notify me when my hours are due or is it my responsibility to remember? Do I send them the certificates by mail? Not sure how this works. Are there other places I can obtain hours? Thanks so much and Happy New Year!

wondering about CE's
Hello, I am an LPN just passed NCLEX in September and work at a facility that does not offer CE credits. I would like to earn credits by going on Medscape and taking tests and then printing out the certificates. I would like to know (I am in NJ) if I need 30 credits over 2 years and the test I am taking says it's valid until December of 2009, would I still be able to use it when I need it? Thanks, d
