  1. Hi! There is a new process from AHPRA and NMBA for the general registration of Internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNM). Depending on the self-check, it will determine in which stream you are classified on: A or B or C Stream A will let you proceed immediately with the initial registration after paying the fees. Stream B will require you to sit for an Outcome Based Assessment (OBA) which includes a multiple choice examination (MCQ) and an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) before getting your initial registration. Stream C will require you to enroll in a qualification leading to registration through approved study programs. For more information: https://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Accreditation/IQNM.aspx Your next concern will be your visa. Some hospitals/ organizations offer sponsorship through visa 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa/ visa 186 Australian Permanent Work Visa (Employer Nomination Scheme). There are also other options such as visa 189 Skilled Independent Visa/ 190 Skilled Nominated Visa (State nominated) / 491 Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa if you have enough points to get an invitation. The criteria for the points system are as follows: Age English language skills Skilled employment experience Educational qualifications Specialist education qualification Australian study requirement Professional Year in Australia Credentialled community language Study in regional Australia Partner skills For more information: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia Best of luck in the future!
  2. Hi! It is a bit competitive to get a job in the city considering most people will be wanting that. But there are still heaps of nursing opportunities in Australia especially if you are looking at living in the regional area. Cost of living is fairly cheaper than in the city. ED Nursing in the rural and remote areas is very exciting! Nurses are becoming more independent. You will have the chance to Triage and Treat many kinds of interesting presentations. However, some smaller towns do not have any medical officers present in the hospital, so the care all depends on the nurses' assessment and skills which might be a little overwhelming if your are a fresh graduate. Best of luck in the future!

  4. Hi! There are many different pathways of being a nurse in Australia. We have registered nurses, endorsed enrolled nurses, and enrolled nurses. If you choose to study nursing in Australia, depending on your university it is a combination of online learning/ self directed learning/ placements in health facilities (depending on which year level you are on). Whilst studying, most students are also able to work as assistant in nursing or AIN providing bedside cares. If you decide to finish your BSN/RN in the US, there is are different streams for internationally qualified nurses and midwives to gain initial registration in Australia. You will be asked to do a self check/ assessment to determine in which stream you are classified on: A or B or C . 5. Hi! There is a new process from AHPRA and NMBA for the general registration of Internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNM). In summary, you will have to sit for a multiple choice question exam and the objective structured clinical examination (which is only offered in Australia). Also, you will be required to have a proficient score in any recognized english language exam (IELTS/ PTE/ OET). For more information: https://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Accreditation/IQNM.aspx Your next concern will be your visa. 6. We had our final interview last Aug 3 and had our medical exam last August 5 or 6 :)
  7. They aren't allowed to initiate peripheral lines but they are allowed to maintain IV infusions, give IV medications and discontinue/remove lines.
  8. I just remembered.... when I had my training there before, 2 of my fellow trainees didn't have an IVT license yet but they were already done with the completion and everything. Just waiting for their cards and certificates. The training office accepted them Good luck!
  9. Refer to page 19. Your question about the board rating standard has already been addressed
  10. I heard they are having an ICU training program but I'm not sure when is it going to start. The MS training will not push through anymore, they cancelled it. I don't know if they accept applicants for training without an IVT license yet. Try calling the contact number I posted earlier to confirm. The secretary is very accommodating she can correctly answer all your queries
  11. Hi WarlockversionRN, you just had your initial interview last July 12 and you're in for a technical exam?
  12. Mistiknit, yes they require an 80% and above board rating. They will probably not accept your resume if they see a below 80% grade. And even though they accept it, (this is just what I heard) they're gonna be offering a non-nursing job (ex: RT)... I don't know if they're still accepting applicants. It's better to call first before you go... Good luck!
  13. Hi nurseDYEN, are you taking the initial exam?
  14. USTH accepts trainees even they're not from UST. However, they give priority to their graduates. Contact 7313001 loc 2376 (nursing training office) if you want to know the details. From what I've heard they're planning to have another batch of MS training this August. The registration will probably start 2nd week of July 2011. Call the training office for the requirements God bless
  15. Good morning! Anyone here who had the initial interview last July 5? I'm really anxious and I'm bad at waiting so Id like to know who have been contacted for the technical exam. Do anyone here have an idea how many more they need for the training? Thank you and God bless us all
