Job Interview: Check Writing Legibility?
Oh, tell me about it on people having poor grammar and spelling. My first degree is in journalism and it drives me nuts sometimes. My biggest pet peeve is "alot".....it's two words, not one. Also, let's not forget about misusing the work "ironic". I know, it's nerdy, but if you spend years editing other people's work it will get to you.

Knowing what you know now about nursing, what other career would you have chosen?

Knowing what you know now about nursing, what other career would you have chosen?
This thread is interesting because I'm a photographer going back to school for nursing. I shoot advertising and fashion and I can tell you the people you have to deal with in this field are just as bad....the only difference is in the medical field you are actually saving lives, in photography they act like they are. The egos are unreal, a doctor's ego is nothing compared to egos I deal with in photography and advertising. It's like any other field, the horrible people are in all of them. I actually make more money as a photographer but I can't stand the instability. When the economy goes down you better have money saved up. A lot of us went out of business after 9-11 and companies cut down on advertising....it's been back to normal for the past couple of years, but you never know.

form and function. I memorize the anatomy and then understand the function of it. Then it is repeat, repeat, repeat.

Is it right to try to negotiate pay?
I have no idea of you gender, but this thread did remind me of some some books I've read on women in business. A lot of them discuss that one of the reasons women still get paid less than men is their lack of negotiating before taking a job. Women tend to accept what they are offered in fear of losing the job offer as men usually ask for as much as they can get. My mother is a CEO and the best advice she ever gave me is that employers usually give a lower number than they can go....hey, if the person will accept it why not save some money and if they ask for more then they have some negotiating room. There is no harm in asking, they are more than likely expecting that you will.

"I have kids! I need to come in late, need more sick time, etc."
I don't mind if people who have kids need to leave early or call in if their child is sick as long as they respect my time and understand that just because I don't have children doesn't mean I don't have people I love that I would like to spend time with off work. I had a job once where I was the only person who didn't have children and basically their view was that their time was more valuable than mine. I even had one woman tell me that I should arrange my schedule around theirs since I didn't have anything else to do when I was off work (her words.) I do have a social life and enjoy seeing my husband from time to time. Another woman even complained about me because I took off to go to my uncle's funeral.....the week before I worked two days for her because her kids were sick, never made that mistake again. I think the key is equal treatment and consideration for all people and not those who have children, we all have family and outside commitments. I understand someone with children requesting holidays off but don't expect me to always cover and think my holidays off aren't as valuable. My biggest complaint is extra consideration for smokers. Both my husband and I have had jobs where no one could take breaks because it was too busy but smokers always got breaks no questions asked. One job I had I would get questioned for getting a drink of water down the hall but smokers could sit outside for up to an hour at a time several times a day and that was perfectly fine.

In nursing uniform during a traffic copstop!
On the ethics note mentioned by a different poster, I don't think anyone here (jokes aside) really thinks they are entitled to be let off with a warning. But, I don't think even the most ethical person after getting a warning is going to chase the cop down and force the cop to give them a ticket.

going to TCU
I used to live right by Stonegate Villas. It's a good area too....great trails and it's close to tons of places for great food and music.

going to TCU
Californianurse, you might want to look into moving to North Arlington by River Legacy park. There are some nice apartments and you will be right next to some great trails. I lived there when I needed to live between Dallas and Fort Worth. You could do the midcities area but I always thought living near I-30 was better than doing battle on 183. As far as living in Fort Worth there are some options. If you have dogs you can always rent one of the house near TCU. They can cost a lot if you live right next to TCU but there are some that are close that aren't bad. J
