From Long Island, NY. It was okay. I was satisfied with it. I would have liked to learned more about pharmacology and pathophysiology, but most RN-BSN programs I looked at did not offer those type of classes.

I did the online RN-BSN. The curriculum was pretty basic. They have their semesters divided into two 8 week semesters instead of one 16 week long semester. I was able to finish the program less than a year and a half.

I just started my training in the Surgical ICU and have a bunch of questions. One that just came to me is, Does the insertion of a ventriculostomy drain have the potential of causing more brain injury? Does the catheter not go through brain parenchyma?

Hey, I just read a bunch of posts on allnurses about Latent TB and got really good information. I still have one question...Once latent TB is diagnosed and treated (if treated), when is the next time they should be screened for active tb? is there a routine to have chest xrays done once a year if you have been diagnosed with latent tb in the pass? Or do you just wait and if you become symptomatic then get a chest xray? Thanks!!!!

I was just wondering if anyone has seen D5W administered to patients with diabetes? I saw this the other day and asked the nurse why. She is a LPN and told me "maybe her sodium is too high?". How does D5W lower sodium levels????

Just wondering why sometimes when you flush a saline lock that you're able to aspirate for brisk blood return, but you meet resistance when flushing afterwards???? - Positioning? - thrombus?

Thanks! I was on the right track. I thought it might make a favorable environment for infection, but I was confused on why you should moisturize everywhere else on the foot though.

I'm currently a nursing student and learning about diabetes. I understand all of the instructions for foot care of a client with diabetes except one... "Apply moisturizing cream to your feet daily after bathing. Do not apply to area between toes." Can anyone give me the rationale for not applying it between your toes???? Thanks in advance!!

I remember reading an article a while back on this website. It was about a student prejudging another student in the nursing program for always coming in late and getting away with things. Then later on she found out that the student was very sick and dying and whose goal in life was to become a nurse. Any one no the title of the article? I just spent an hour on this website looking for it lol. I figure I would post this as a last resort. Thanks!

Tonight was a good night at work. Im in the midst of transferring to a Nursing Assistant, but right now I am currently employed as a nutritional aide at my local hospital. Since food trays have to be passed out in a timely manner, I have little time to spend with the patients. Tonight was a little different. As I was collecting the food trays, I entered a room and noticed a woman feeding a patient. The room was a 2 patient room and I only saw the one. At second glance I realized it was the other patient who was helping feed the one patient. The woman was so sweet. I watched for a little as she gently raised the spoonful of food to the incapable patient's mouth. I asked her why she was doing that and she replied "I love to help people, that's what life is all about right?" I agreed. It was very heartening to me. I understand the nursing team is very busy at times and can not get to all the patients at once to feed them, but does anyone have a problem with a patient feeding another patient?

Im a current student in a RN partnership program through a community college. My hospital pays everything upfront. As soon as we(students) receive our bill, we then bring it to our hospital director and they give us a voucher to pay the bill. My hospital also covers books and uniforms along with tuition. I signed a contract to work for the hospital for 4 years in return. There are other hospitals in the RN partnership program at my college too. Not all of them work the same way. Some hospitals only pay tuition and some you have to pay up front for. Im not too sure what my hospital policy is if you're already a RN and looking for tuition reimbursement. The bottom line is that you should check it out with the hospital that you're interested in. Good luck!

I never heard of that, but the idea seems cool. I always try and get a good stretch in before my day. Stretching feels so good and it relaxes me. Some yoga classes can be intense. Everyone should try and get in a good stretch though.

We were just going over this in class....My professor told us if you are floated to a unit that you never worked on, You ask for an orientation. I was also told to fill out a "written protest" and make a copy for your self to any situation you feel is dangerous so that you can carry out the assignment, and not abandon the pt. I don't think you should have got fired though! You'll find a better place to work.

I think that maybe the "auscultatory gap". That gives you a false low systolic pressure.

A good knowledge of anatomy and physiology, I find is helpful to have, along with ORGANIZATION and DISCIPLINE!!! Good luck!

The four years is the repayment... if anything happeneds where I have to move and can no longer work for them, I have to pay them back for everything.... Im hoping that will not happen.

If you keep it clean looking(well groomed) there should be no problem... Go for it Dude!
