  1. I live in Wisconsin. Just curious what other dialysis clinics in Wisconsin are paying their RNs. We have a chronic and acute program. There are 3 rns responsible for both programs. What company to you also work for. Thanks for your input.
  2. Thanks for your input robblin. I am trying to gather as much info about this before I go to our regional director. What state are you in?
  3. I have a question regarding medicare payments with chronic and acute dialysis runs. We are a hospital based clinic providing outpt as well as inpatient treatments. All acutes are run at the bedside. I was wondering why we are not able to run the "stable" acutes at our clinic instead of lugging all the equipment to their rooms. Our manager said that billing would be a nightmare and this practice is unheard of. To me it seems like as long as the pt gets the treatment needed, why would medicare/insurance companies care were in the hospital the treatment was done? Any dialysis gurus out there that know the answer?
  4. Boy, if I were a celeb and found out my name was appearing in here. I WOULD BE WILD. I agree HIPPA all the way!!
  5. God is the author and finisher of life period. No ifs, ands or buts about it.
  6. We do have uf profiling on our machines but the company I work for has not been totally sold on its use and therefore I cannot find anyone around to explain it. What is svs?
  7. Just curious, how often do you get called in after hours and especially at night (after midnight). What dialysis machine do you use?. You get 4.50 an hour for carrying the pager?. I cannot believe the differences in amts. I feel like we are grossly underpaid at 1.50/ hour.
  8. our clinic has just begun acutes. I am on call with 2 other nurses and we each take 1 week at a time. We are on call Monday thru Thursdays from 6pm to 6am and Friday night until Monday am @ 6am. Our manager fields the calls during the day. We make $1.50/hour. If you get called in, the time is straight pay unless it exceeds 40 hours, then it is 1 1/2 pay. Where in Wisconsin are you? We are in the Fox Valley area. Our sister clinic in Greenbay is paid alittle different as I am told "the culture is different there" How does this compare with your area?
  9. How soon before a dialysis treatment should a pt take Quinine ? Is it more effective to take it just prior to getting on or should it be taken several hours before? Thanks
  10. My deepest sympathies to you. I am a seasoned hospice nurse and I want to just share a thought with you. I know without a shadow of a doubt that people dying choose who they want at their side at time of death. Maybe not consciously but more subconciously. People choose to die alone or with someone at their side. I have had people sit for hours, days at their loved one side only to have them die when they leave the room for a much needed break. I have had pts hang on until a certain person made the long journey home, dying peacefully within moments of their getting there. There is a reason you were not suppose to be in there with your grandma. We may not always know or understand the reason. Hold tight to those sweet and precious memories of your grandma. Remember, you were there for her in all other ways while she was very much alive!!
  11. I am rather new to dialysis and still trying to figure everything out. I was wondering why an arterial pressure will slowly drop during treatment. It does not happen often but when it does there does not seem to be any connection to any obvious problem. By dropping, I mean fron -250 to -60-70s. There are no alarms and treatment seems to run okay. Is this something to be worried about? Is it related to the dialyzer size.? Thanks for your input.
