  1. The instructors are just not very helpful. I overheard one saying to another "we need to be relentless" The director told me personally that they will hold the grades in order to keep us from receiving instant gratification, and one girl asked for help because she needed an 80% on her final test and the instructor she asked for help said she hasnt gotten an 80 so she should withdraw from the program... These are some reasons why people say to run away from Essex. However, if you do make it through, I only know of 2 people who did not pass the nclex on the first try...
  2. Many patients in ICUs are prescribed Heparin to prevent DVTs and therefore I believe the harm could come from small cuts or abrasions caused during mouth care with a bristle toothbrush. Where I work we only use green tipped sponge swabs to clean the patient's mouths.
  3. I recently graduated from CCBC Essex day program and I applied while still in a&p 2. I was accepted the first try but they do look at your gpa and teas test scores when making the decision. Good Luck, Essex day program is a difficult one and the instructors are not very helpful.
  4. I had a 4.0 and 90th percentile on the TEAS but have just completed the program and finished with some who had much lower GPAs and TEAS scores so it is possible. I would highly recommend looking into other programs in the area before Essex though.
  5. Congrats on the acceptance. I just finished the day program at Essex and it is not one I would recommend. There is little to no support from the staff and we began with 68 and graduated with 22. They do teach you what you need to know but it is almost not worth the ridicule and abuse that accompanies it. Just be prepared as you would to enter bootcamp for the military for 2 long years and all will be fine...

Hi, I just finished the day program at essex. It is pure hell, torture for the full two years, talk about jump through hoops, be prepared. Not trying to scare you, just giving you fair warning that the instructors take pleasure in abusing you in every way possible until the final day. I learned a lot and just passed the NCLEX on the first try but trust me, be prepared. I could not have worked full time and passed. I worked part time after funds. We began with 68 students and graduated 22 of the original 68.
