  1. Hello, I'm 54 and have only been a RN for 3 years. I started my RN career at a wound healing center. I would love to work medsurge as I really have a pull towards there ever since clinicals. Am I to old? I am willing, able and so ready for a change and an opportunity to do so much more.
  2. Hello all, It's been a long time since I've been here. I am now an RN, since July 2014 to be exact. An older one at that, 54. So when I first started applying for jobs I really wanted med surge, had an interview and the hospital didn't hire me. , they hired a brand new nurse with no medical experience who's mother worked there for 30 years. I atleast had been an LPN for 8 years. Heart broken yes, a bit bitter yes. I did get offered a job at a psych facility, but the day I said yes was the day our local wound healing center called and offered me a job, i said no to psych and yes to wounds. Been there since my boards were passed, so first RN job. Busy place, days, weekends and holidays off. My delima...I still dream of being a med surge nurse. I want to do it all. Now I'm managing wounds and case managing 60-70 people, the other 2 full time rns do the same amount of case managing so it's a very busy place. Am I to old to want 12 hour shifts? Should I give up a job with such hours that's wanted by many? I am very fortunate to have landed this job as it required 3 years of med surge experience. I'm so torn.

havent been here in some time, for obvious reasons...nursing school and studying were my life. TONIGHT I GET PINNED AS A GN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow graduation, with honors!!!!...... and sometime........ i am HOPING in the near future....... THE BOARDS~! what a roller coaster of a ride. The director of nursing keeps asking me if im going on for my BSN....at 51???? that will be determined at a later date. i have my app in for my lic(paid for) and also my nyclex app(also paid for)..sent all that in almost 2 weeks ago...how long did anyone else have to wait?
  4. i got 1ml by cross multiplying. 15mg/x = 30mg/2ml 15mgx2ml=30 30mg/30 = 1ml
  5. @ PurpleLover...we go back jan 20th....nice long break..i have my med-surge book on my kindle so i am going to do some cardio reading...plus perhaps some "fluff" as well...hehe @ krisiepoo...this semester was hard and they tell me 4th is even harder. what did you think about 4th?
  6. 80 on final...ended with an 83....will take that B
  7. 97 on EBP...so going in to final with an 84...still,alot can happen... good luck to everyone on their finals!!
  8. here i sit,not being on here in months, and all ready in my 3rd semester....WHAT A RIDE!! grades are up and down. i am sitting on an 82 going into the final. wish it was higher. the final is worth 35% yikes!!...i stink at F/E and endocrine. I get all mixed up. i am all dressed for my EBP presentation this morning and last class of the semester, final monday. this has been the hardest thing and most stressful thing i have ever done! yes,i am writing short phrases and sound somewhat like a robot but its about how i feel right now. can you believe i forgot ALL about nurses.com. I should of been coming here for some help and support. I have been coming here for years!! thanks for taking the time to read. can anyone else relate?? its almost break! thank the good Lord
  9. thats not very encouraging. and i have never been treated differently....i am on the deans list and just got invited to be in the phi theta kappa honor society....how cool it that...well,i think so.. i am 50 and in my 2nd semester of an ADN program...its it hard...YUP....does my lil body get sore...YUP...i have been a LPN for 7 yrs now and work circles around my younger counterparts... i would say if you really want this, then go for it! that stamina remark is so true....i can start to feel it after my 8 hr shifts:sleep:...but ya know what....it keeps me young, fit and active...
  10. i have had a few catharsis myself:cry:....can you tell i am in the mental health portion of my program!
  11. hi everyone...this is my 2nd semester. last semester I made the deans list and this semester i am doing awful! the semester is broken down into 2 sections...the first 7 weeks is psych nursing and the next is OB....i am in psych and it is throwing me. I love my clinical rotation. I do work with MR and TBI patients as an LPN and I know my psych patients in my clinical are different from what i work with, but i still love it. its the class. i cant get into studying. i have alot going on. my daughter and her 3 yr old son just moved in so she could go to school for psychology...she is renting her house out and staying with us so she can afford school and to live. i think this is a huge distraction this semester. last semester i would study at my kitchen table for hours. now i am lucky if i get to at all. i am trying to stay at school and go to the library before coming home to get inalot of studying, because when i do get home the house as a 3 yr old and you all know how that is..... any helpful hints for the content as well....it is interesting, but i score low on test....just got a 75 on an exam...i am use to 80s and 90s.... thanks all
  12. im 50,2nd semester ADN program..and thats it for me..
  13. i grew up with a deaf cousin..he was my best friend growing up...i learned sign language along with him. in school i was always friendly and compasionate toward MR individuals and the learning disabilty while others made fun of them...i stopped them....my husband has a brain injured sister and i love her to death....in the early 80s i received my AAS degree in early childhood minoring in special education for the preschoolers....many years later while i was in my 40s i became a LPN,now I am in my 2nd semester of RN school.....did all this help me decide to be a nurse?..perhaps yes, perhaps no. i just knew i always wanted to be one,my kids are grown and now it is my chance. i think growing up the way i did certainly helps me to be a more compasionate nurse...oh and did i mention...i work with medically frail MR and TBI individuals now...some are very contracted and distorted, but all i see is an individual, not their physical disabilities.....I am going through my psych rotation now and LOVE it!!!....a whole other ball of wax compared to what i am use to,but so very interesting!!
  14. A in nursing seminar and B+ in fundamentals....that's what I posted on my FB.....I am 50!...and the group I am frineds with all did the same...we were proud and happy with each other...no biggie
