Hospitals no longer hiring nurses with their ADN?
My hospital is only hiring BSN prepared nurses because of the economy. If you are BSN prepared and want more info on a job lead, I can get you an interview. PM me for details.

RN hourly rate
Hi. My suggestion: keep applying. You haven't applied at ALL HCA North Texas hospitals (unless you didn't list them all). Also, the law of averages says that the more applications you put in, the more calls you'll get. What if one or two out of twelve return your call. If you've only applied at eight, you've still got an average of four more to go before you'll get a call. Simple (crummy) statistics. Good luck to you. I don't mention my employer on this site for many reasons. But I think you need to keep your chin up and KEEP LOOKING. It will happen. cnotc

RN hourly rate
HCA North Texas hires new grads all the time.

RN hourly rate
I know some of some places in DFW paying around 23 and change for new grads. CNA experience counts at some places and LVN experience as well. This can mean new grads can start significantly higher (in some cases $10 - 17 more per hour higher) than their non-LVN counterparts as NEW grads. Hope that helps.

TX BON
From what I have been able to discern, the BON approves most applicants (many times with stipulations). There is a list of so-called "minor" offenses. And it all depends of course on whether you were convicted (includes deferred disposition/adjudication, no contest and cases where you've had an order of non-disclosure). For the January 17-18, 2008 meeting of the Texas Board of Nursing (formerly the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners), attorney and general counsel Dusty Johnson presented an informational report on the Board’s policy in regards to minor criminal infractions and licensing. Of particular interest for current and future Texas nurses, the report provides a list of crimes which the Board has deemed to be too minor to warrant an investigation or disciplinary order in connection with a license application or renewal. Following the mandate of Chapter 53 of the Texas Government Code, the BON (BNE) recognizes that there are some forms of criminal conduct which are not sufficiently related to nursing to bring into question the licensee’s competency. Specifically, the listed criminal offenses are compared to the Board’s own Rule 213.28(i) concerning “youthful indiscretions.” Also of note is the finding that the Nursing Board now annually investigates approximately 3000 “positive hits” resulting from the standard FBI criminal background check required of all license applicants. The criminal offenses considered not to be sufficiently related to the practice of nursing as to warrant an investigation or disciplinary action are: One misdemeanor DWI/DUI (not on probation) One misdemeanor offense of possession of marijuana Up to two misdemeanor theft by check One misdemeanor domestic/family violence One misdemeanor theft over $20 less than $250 (normally assoc. with shoplifting) One misdemeanor shop lifting One misdemeanor criminal mischief Misdemeanor graffiti One misdemeanor criminal trespass One misdemeanor disorderly conduct Up to two misdemeanor Public Intoxication Up to two misdemeanor Pan Handling Misdemeanor “loud noise” violations One misdemeanor Reckless Driving Misdemeanor minor in possession of tobacco One misdemeanor selling alcohol to a minor Failure to appear Vehicular molestation (slashing tires) However, if you have been convicted (or arrested) for more serious offenses, see below: Chapter 301.4535 of the Texas Nursing Practice Act states that the Texas Board of Nursing must suspend or refuse to initially license any nurse / applicant who has been initially convicted of: Murder under 19.02, capital murder under 19.03, or manslaughter under 19.04 of the Texas Penal Code; Kidnapping or unlawful restraint under 20 of the Penal Code, when the offense was punished as a felony or state jail felony; Sexual Assault under 22.011 of the Penal Code; Aggravated Sexual Assault under 22.021 Continuous sexual abuse of a young child or children under 21.02, or indecency with a child under 21.11 of the Penal Code; Aggravated Assault under Section 22.021 of the Penal Code: Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly injuring a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual under 22.04 of the Penal Code; Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly abandoning or endangering a child under 22.041 of the Penal Code; Aiding suicide under 22.08 when the offense was punished as a state jail felony; An offense under 25.07 of the Penal Code that was punished as a felony; An offense under 25.071 of the Penal Code that was punished as a felony; An agreement to abduct a child from custody under 25.031 of the Penal Code; The sale or purchase of a child under 25.08 of the Penal Code; Robbery under 29.02 of the Penal Code; Aggravated Robbery under 29.03 of the Penal Code; An offense for which a defendant is required to register as a sex offender under Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure; or An offense under the law of another state, federal law, or the Uniform Code of Military Justice that contains elements that are substantially similar to the elements of an offense listed in this subsection. Hope that helps.

Medical Center of Lewisville and their GN Training Program
Hi hubby, I have some more info about this particular program. Hope this helps: 1) This program is a "residency" type program in that nurse residents will learn on the job. 2) It is a way for nurses to try out the hospital and for the hospital to try out the nurses. 3) It gives new nurses (at the very least) some solid experience they can put on their resume and (at most) a career with Lewisville Medical Center. 4) They will likely hire lots of nurses through this program. Can't give more info than that due to confidentiality. I highly encourage your significant other to apply. It's a great place to work. :)

LVN License Question
"I never considered not revealing my diagnosis to the board that was suggested by other people and not me. I did talk to my therapist about it and he did say he's never heard of people in California being made to jump through hoops in his 35 years of practice. I just want to make sure my dx wasn't a do not pass go do not collect $200 situation before starting school." I was replying to the person who posted a reply to your first post, actually. And, I am glad you are doing the right thing. I do not know much about the CA BON, but I am sure it is better than TX, a very conservative state.

LVN License Question
"Since your bipolar disorder is being appropriately treated and does not interfere with your ability to practice or function in daily life you can truthfully answer no to any question concerning your health. If that is not the case, then you wouldn't be considering pursuing the license." Clearly this is a bad idea. If you get caught lying to the BON about ANYTHING you will likely lose your license to practice forever. If you are worried that anyone has to jump through hoops, take a look at the BON website. Just search the phrase "approved with stipulations" in the website. There I found a ton of "HOLY SMOKES I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY APPROVED THAT GUY FOR A LICENSE" entries. My point is that yes, the BON is deathly serious about honesty and integrity and no, they are not on some witch hunt trying to destroy the dreams of those who wish to pursue nursing. A letter from your doctor with details about the hx of your illness, a visit to Austin, and an appearance before three or so folks with a couple of questions is about all you will go through. For some, however, a visit to their shrink (and a fee along with it) is required but this is not necessary for the majority of people. Keep your head up. Remember why you chose Nursing. Follow your dreams. And don't let anything, including your fears, stop you. Tags: RN, LVN, Bipolar, BON, honest, letter from your doctor
