  1. Thank you for getting back socialjustice. I'm surprised there are so many ETP students. Which specialty are you doing?
  2. that is awesome. congrats to all you guys! i think Columbia is pretty much my dream school. Do you mind if I ask you what you think of my chances of having a shot at being accepted? I have a 3.55 GPA from my BSN and by the time I'd apply and start probably about 2+ years of experience on a med surg floor. I haven't taken my gre yet but of course hope to do as good as you. Which track are you guys doing? Any advice? Sorry if this is a lot..but just looking for any tips. Congrats once again! I would be so excited! Good luck to you all!
  3. Hello everyone, I was hoping to get some information on admissions for the adult np or fnp programs at Columbia. Most of the posts I could search were for the accelerated/etp program and not just the MSN for people who already have their BSN. I graduated with my BSN and a 3.55 gpa - cum laude. I haven't taken the gre yet. I'm coming up on 6 months of experience on a med-surg floor and will probably have around 1 year by the time I apply or 1.5 by the time I would possibly start (if i hopefully get in that is...:thankya:). Does anyone have any tips or any information on the stats you need to be accepted? I'm really interested in this program and would love to have the opportunity to attend. Looking forward to hearing any tips or advice or any suggestions at all about the program, on myself as an applicant - or anything that I can do to make myself better! Thank you everyone so much!
  4. thank you for your help i'll look out for more nurse clinician I positions there and I suppose try talking to nurse recruitment thanks!
  5. sorry for pulling an old thread back up but i just had a question for all of you who were accepted to the program.. how exactly did you apply? i'm graduating this may from my program and just wanted to know if you applied before you graduated or after you get your license already? i wasn't able to find anything specific on the website about where to apply..just that all new grads that are hired are put into the SPRING program. I see some positions for nurse clinician's but none that are on my unit of interest..any help guys? and congrats to all of you who were able to get a position in this program even though this was quite a few months ago! any help would be appreciated!! thanks everyone
  6. thanks everyone. really makes me feel a little better about the whole situation. on a more exciting note - i start my first actual clinical tomorrow! long way to go...lol
  7. Hey fellas, So I just came back from this family party and I met some people I haven't seen in a long time. When they asked what I was taking in college, I told them that I'm a junior in my nursing program..and man did they sure judge me. The entire night I could hear it in peoples tones that they were "disappointed" thinking I took an "easy way out" vs all of the doctors and pre-meds in my family. I don't know..I guess I can't really explain the feelings i'm having right now through an online post. Just sucks being compared to the others in your family when you're actually doing really well in school. Anyone else ever feel like this? Words of encouragement? Thanks
  8. ^thanks i found out about the lot after I already parked lol..most of us didn't know where to park and ended up paying for the day. but now i know..thanks =)
  9. hey guys I have my orientation there tomorrow. What's the parking situation for students like? Is there a specific lot that I should go to or something?? All I know is that we're meeting in the lobby
  10. ^^ nice! i'm going to be a junior in the fall!
  11. that sounds great..thanks emtb2rn! MsAsia..good luck to you next sem!
  12. nope! i'm at seton hall
  13. Hey everyone! I just found out that I'm being placed for my first Med-Surg clinical at Overlook Hospital for the upcoming semester. How is it over there? Any tips on the hospital itself? Thanks everyone! (I'm so excited!! :))
  14. I'm currently only a freshman in a BSN program..but I came across a question.. How do NP's introduce themselves to patients? For example, a nurse introduces themselves as Nurse Blah Blah and MD's introduce themselves as Dr. Blah Bah. How do NP's do it?
  15. I was accepted there in the fall of 07 but I chose not to go there because it's such a small school.
  16. Thanks guys
  17. ^I'm only a second semester freshman. For my nursing classes, the professors I've had have been pretty good..I can't complain. I can't speak for much considering I'm only taking my second nursing theory course, but the professors I've had are pretty good.
  18. I don't know anything about the accelerated program but I'm in the 4 year bsn. About the passing rate for the NCLEX, according to their website it says 97% of students pass. I'm sure they take into count both accelerated and 4 year students. source: http://www.shu.edu/about/fast_facts.cfm
  19. Hi all, I've read threads about how it's hard for new grad's in New Jersey to get jobs. Even though right now I'm only a freshman, would I potentially stand out as an applicant if say..I become a volunteer EMT and stick with it until I graduate? ..and for that matter, any advice on how to stand out as an applicant? (even though I still have a long time to go..never hurts to be proactive. ) Thanks, Jay
  20. Right now, I'm a freshman at Seton Hall and I love it.
  21. I'm in a four year program at a university in New Jersey. First semester the class started out with about 160 students with probably about 7 male students. Now, second semester..it's down to 107 (alot of people weren't able to make it through Anatomy & Physio I) of which about 5 are males. I'm 18..and we're all around the same age.
  22. A reason I asked is because I wasn't sure how much interaction I would have with patients. Thanks for your responses!
  23. This may seem like an odd question but here it goes. If a CRNA wishes, can they work as a Registered Nurse as well as an anesthetist?
  24. Hey, sorry to hear that. Which school did you go to?..Right now I'm at Seton Hall University. I hope I don't run into problems like these when I graduate..Seton Hall's program is supposed to be good. They might prefer Rutgers graduates over others since they probably do their clinicals at Robert Wood Johnson. I guess stay patient. Hope everything works out well.
