New graduate LPNs: any luck finding jobs.
OMG, I'm scared as hell. I have just been hired to do some nursing with the heavy machinery Vent,s Trachs, Suctioning, and cathing. I'm new and Just got my license. What a heavy burden I feel to make sure my job is done right. I'm but just an LPN. I'm honored to start. I'm very nervous to test my abilities.

Male Nurses/female Patients
I do LTC so my approach is a little different I like to simply ask when it comes to hygeine that sort of thing. "Would you have a problem with me helping to get you ready for the night? If they say yes, I then ask a coworker. If they say yes and their body language says no I ask a coworker. If they say No that means no.

Why do many nurses look down on LTC?
i just graduated from my lpn program and will probably stop there because i have been working in a assistted living plus facility. there is no better feeling coming home from work knowing you mattered and made a difference in a resident's day. economically speaking this is the area to be in. this kind of nursing requires more then skill and education but also compassion and empathy but most important listining. i love my residents even the difficult ones you nurses in a hospital can you say that most days?

TMA Chaos
Hello everyone, I was just trained in as a TMA after two years on the floor. My problem is I'm too slow granted I just stopped training last week.I'm also about to start my second semester as a PN student. I feel as if I either a) have not developed a routine or B) I'm taking too long verifying my meds so I do not get a med error or more importantly give the wrong medicine. I'm responsible for 21 people who all get HS Meds (2000) and BS and insulin on 4 of those and blood sugars on 6. I also have neb treatments and ROM that sort of thing. We are a paper MAR facility. My residents are getting uptight with my performance as a TMA, which in turn increases my axiety. Anybody who has some tips for managing medications safely and efficiently I sure would love to here it. Thanks for any feedback.

nursing blues
Thanks, I just heard another nurse tell her story about how rough of a time she had with two full time jobs and three kids also doing gen ed's while doing nursing classes and she made it. I have no way to measure my learning so far in the real world of nursing I hope I can be a great nurse.

nursing blues
Hello all, I think I just need to vent or may need some positive reinforcement. I'm almost through with my first semester of the actual nursing program, I always thought I would be the most excellent student because I want it bad. Lately, I see there are others that nursing (clinicals) everything seems to come natural. I've been an aide for 2 years now and I know I have the heart and compassion for the job, but It seems like to me I'm missing something. I'm just not getting it like others do. I scored really high on critical thinking yet when I take critical thinking exercises you know the ones where the questions are open ended. I suck. I'm a hands on learner and it seems like they stress the books in my Nursing interventions class. I'm passing not by alot but still passing. I want to be a good nurse not a nurse that barely made it by. I love nursing. I think my need to have this as my second career and my axiety level because everthing is on the line is hurting me. When an instructor watches me do something I seem to not do it right. Am I alone here.

Ethical dillema
After recieving her last dose of medication she has lost consciousness and is unable to communicate. They give no information on non verbals like squirming around or grimacing.
-
Ethical dillema
this is a class project and gives no information other then her stated intentions by health care directive, but does that make it right.

I have a class project due and would like to get some feedback, espcially those in hospice care. Here it is. The doctor has an order in for increased dosages of morphine for a terminally ill patient, her resp are 4 to 8 per minute. I think that increasing the dosage anymore would kill her and the order should be clarified by the doctor. I also believe by increasing the dosage would be unethical because it would be Practioner asisted suicide. Am I on the right line of thinking or no.

New to research papers
Hello, I need some help. I'm taking an online nutrition course and I have a paper due on wednesday. I'm told to stay away from .com sites and I need to know how to find the following info. How does dairy consumption differ in the US and other cultures? I really need to know how to research?

Ornery resident
You are absolutley correct, I'm not the boss. I do have some interaction with this resident cath care and such (he does not mind that). I do not want to say anything at all but it is causing a strain on my co workers and I do not deserve to be treated that way. With the feedback I'm getting it sounds like I'll just send this one up the ladder. thanks.

Ornery resident
Hello, I have a slight problem with one of my residents at a ltc facility. This resident is very, very rude. He thinks guy aides or nurses are all gay. He will not allow cares done by male staff, This is okay we make exceptions for the lady residents who are not comfortable with male staff. With that said this guy yells at me when I walk by his room saying get the hell away from here and comments like this. I'm not sure how I should handle this situation. I'm thinking him and I need to have a talk but I do not want to overstep my boundaries. Somehow I need this resident to know who is in charge and do it in a very political, but stern and firm way. Any Ideas?
