New to Home health company and first paycheck bounced!!
Yeah, of course I am looking, but worried now, about my next paycheck that is due. I am just appauled (sp?) that this is not a federal crime and they are not being held responsible for this. A business should NOT BE allowed to do this to employees! We are ALL having hard times in this economy and all one paycheck away from loosing a home, a car, etc.... This should be stopped because I found out that last pay period 10 of thier checks bounced!

New to Home health company and first paycheck bounced!!
I just started with this new home health company, been in business for 2 years, and my first paycheck bounced after I already deposited it, wrote out my own personal checks and it left me in the big time hole. When I called the administrator, I thought it was strange No apology, just let us look into it and we will get back to you. Then I drove to office and they still said they had to contact the owners and get back to me. Well finally the next day I got a new check, so I drove straight to thier bank and there own bank wouldn't cash it!! So I drove to Walmart, they wouldn't cash it, then I finally got Amscott to cash it! I talked to another employee who told me she had 3 bounce in the past year. Then when I talked to the office girl who does payroll she told me there is NO MONEY IN the account and the owners were looking to borrow money right at that moment. That is why they are doing direct deposit next pay day and i would get my money. Well needless to say, I AM NOT staying with this company, but was wondering what my course of action can be? I live in the state of Florida and just don't know how they are not getting in trouble by anyone for bouncing all these checks? How is this not a federal crime?

Need studying advice! Please
No I did not apply, I just asked alot of questions. I knew I can't clep A and P but I did not realize I can not Clep Microbiology. I just started off with the ones I knew and keep my goal short and small or else I know I want get started. When I do sign up I knew it was going to take A and P with them, but I can save money by cleping the others on my own. And when I talked to other students who are already in enrolled they highly encouraged it and wished they had done that (learn from others mistakes).

New School Nurse in Fla
Hello, I am going through and reading alot of posts on here and getting good information. I just landed a school nurse job at our Elem. School!! After I got over the initial salary SHOCK:eek: and how low I was going to be paid, I started getting really excited. After all, I have been wanting to take a more of a "make a difference approach, and MONEY doesn't always bring happiness attitude" so here is my start! I worked in pediatrics as a medical ast. doing back office duties, then also did home health peds for 2 years and 1 1/2 yrs Med/Surg. So I think that I am ready for this task:lol2: I would appreciate any of the Fla nurses input on school nursing and maybe important things to remember? I am so excited and can't wait to start!!!

Can this be done?
Thanks, but what I meant was NOT ENROLLING in Excelsior, just taking CLEPS on my own then once I did it for all my pre reqs ENROLL in Excelsior. Can that be done?
-
Can this be done?
I am wondering since all you are basicaly doing is CLEPing the classes through Excelsior for your pre req's why can't you SAVE MONEY and just CLEP them yourself then enroll for your nursing classes with them? If I was to do that do I just do it all on my own? Study and then sign up at Pearson Vue for the test? Do they hold your testing information somewhere so when you do go to enroll at a college you can ask them to send it to your college you are enrolling with? Thank you for all your help!:)

Opening our own ALF's
Hello fellow nurses! I was wondering if anyone can share details, or information on something I am wanting to do with a partner.. We live in Florida and I have already requested the what licensing information I need for the state of FLa but I was wanting to hear from someone who has done something similar or doing the same thing. It doesnt' matter if you live in the same state or not. But here is our idea...we want to open some ALF's that are homes, hire someone to manage and live in it and over see it. I being the nurse would do all the manuals and manage it making sure it is in compliance with State Agencies, and over see any other concerns or problems with home health needs, medications etc.... After our first one is up and successfuly going we want to do more of them. Is it really complicated, hard or significant barriers in doing this that you have faced? Please share you success, your failures and anything else you care to share. I wish there was a book on "how too" but then again, if it were that easy everyone would be doing it. Thanks in advance!!

Private Duty Nurses...Let me know if I am insane please!!
AMEN!! thank you!!! Everything you said was so true! And yes, I did leave and found a new job. It was sad that the nurses that were NOT PROFESSIONAL , ran me off, and I was a GREAT nurse and professional.

Im outa here!
After almost two yrs of doing the same case and no raises, and a bunch of other things I got a new job! Thank the Lord! I prayed to God he would help me find another job and he did!!! I am going to be a hospital nurse liaison! And I couldn't be happier. I am sad to leave my patient but glad to go. My company did not care about the situtation that was going on and what was going on with the patient and they took advantage of the nurses on the case, allowing them to buy every piece of clothing and shoes and food and sheets for the patient because the parent never did. As long as the companies pockets were being filled that is all that mattered. And if the parent was happy then the company was still employed. Sad but true. Well, Thank God I am free at last!:bowingpur

Private Duty Nurses...Let me know if I am insane please!!
First thank you for all of you who are giving me genuine feed back, and I know I can't fully explain everything on here that I would like to to help you understand the full picture, but I have been putting in applications ALL over the place to try and get away from this place, but haven't had great luck so far. I am sure I will be able to find something sooner or later, but I have to pay my bills right now and feed my family so I have to do what I can to stay there right now. As far as the parent, yes they have a average job, not great, but not a minimum wage job either, granted they also get social security for BOTH kids, and now getting child support. So that being said, in the 3 yrs I have been there, they have never bought even a pair of shoes for the kids, no clothes, only diapers, and canned food. Nurses have bought sheets, pillows, toys, shoes, clothes. And when you stop and ask the nurses why are you doing this they just say they love them kids like there own and can't stand to see them suffer. So when a child services person walks in everything looks great and no problems. And as far as the agency goes..............I don't know what to think about them anymore. My jaw is droped to the floor with them and amazed, because this is not a mom and pops agency! I don't know what to do with them, because when I talked with my supervisor I was told that all cases are like this and maybe I was just burned out and should try another case. Thanks to everyone who listened to me though.................I feel like I have to bite my tongue until I can find something else that pays my bills. I can't go hungry or homeless!

Help, I have an interview for a Nurse Liaison postion
I don't know where to even post this, but I have an interview for a Nurse Liaison postion for a LTC. I was wondering if there were any other nurses out there doing the same or similar job and how you like it? I feel confident about doing it and am kind of happy I am stepping away from bed side nursing! Would love to hear from other out there that are doing this and what your average day is like and what you hate or like about the job. What perks that come with your job? Thanks!

Private Duty Nurses...Let me know if I am insane please!!
Believe it or not Child services have been to the home SEVERAL times, and nothing is ever done! one thing, the nurses who are on the case are afraid to say anyting in front of the family, and number two, if you loose that case, because they find out you are the one who called you can't pay your own bills!! Well, I am just angry at the BIG COMPANY I work for who knows ALL ABOUT all of this and they just turn thier heads and keep saying that is what we get paid for. Yes, this case has 24-7 nurse so the parent does not EVER go without coverage and if something happens that one nurse doesn't show up that parent is YELLING at the company and you should see how Fast the company jumps for that parent!! THis is a company that answers to a corporation and I just don't understand how everyone is turning thier heads????

Private Duty Nurses...Let me know if I am insane please!!
:angryfire I need to know if there is something wrong with me and if ALL HOME HEALTH private shift cases are usually like this.......because if so then I might not be cut out for this. I work a case that has 2 patients, they are twins and they have seizures, and g-tubes . One nurse for them both, am told by the agency that the state only pays just a tiny bit more for the second pt so not much pay increase for doing both of them. Single parent home and the parent has no home phone, told also that this is NOT Against the law, parent makes NO PHONE CALLS to any physicians or supplies, nurses do EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING. Never saw the parent buy one item of clothing, shoes, for them. Nurses buy them all, not asked to, just feel sorry and they do it. Most nurses bring in food for them, because they feel sorry, kids have to go to school for therapies once a week and nurses take them, because this single parent has to work of course. These kids are behavior problems, hyper active not to mention thier medical condition. When family is home they will not even watch them so you can use the bathroom or even eat your dinner! I can't tell if I am just burnt out on doing just this case or if home health just is not for me. I have a hard time understanding how I am the "mom" all the time!! This is the only case I have ever done in home health and I am just wondering if they are usually ALL LIKE THIS? I welcome the comments! Thanks! OH and the agency just looks at us and tells us "its our job" to do all of it!!!

Should we be told of a surveillance camera in pts room?
I completely understand about the feelings you have about being betrayed and the bad feelings you would get being told this afterwards, but if you did stop for a min and just be THE PARENT in that situation and think of your own child you may do the same thing for different reasons. Not saying you did anything wrong or that they are suspecting you of anything, Im just thinking like a parent myself. My home, my child, I would think I have every right to do it. Try not to take it personal and maybe they feel like they have no control when the nurse is there and maybe this is just some way they think they can gain control? A number of things could be going through there minds. Hope that makes sense to you.

Having trouble finding an agency?
Well,If and when I get a management postion I will remember this very moment in my life. Even if the person was a lousy worker I will remember this is a person who has a family maybe and needs to move on just like everyone else! But I know that I am a very good employee and I do my job very well! THe case I do NO BODY wants to do it, or will do it with a sane mind. It is two patients and I am only getting PAID for one. (they are twins) and since they have a hard time staffing the case I think they are trying to hang onto me (but not giving me a raise or benefits) but giving me a bad reference when people or other agencies call. I am at my wits end and just placing this in God's hands now..........if I keep worrying and trying to figure out what is going to happen or where I will go next it isn't going to help matters.

Having trouble finding an agency?
You know I was just talking to someone tonight and we were thinking the same thing, that my employer right now may be bad mouthing me when they call because they want to keep me! I am doing a case that they have a VERY hard time staffing and I am the "fool" who does it , but I am burnt out! I will proalby stay some with them, but I don't want to rely on them soley because of certain business practices I have seen happen and I will lave it at that for now. What do I do if this may be happening? Do I call everyone I put in applications with and warn them if this has happened to not listen? Because I have put in 10 applications at different agencies and I have NOT GOT ONE INTERVIEW!!! I know I am very capable and a very good nurse! I have NO DOUBTS in my mind! Any suggestions? Has anyone been in this situation before?

Having trouble finding an agency?
I have been putting in applications all over lately for home health and I am currently with a home health agency but was looking for a back up or part time work at another agency. I have put down full time, part time and per diem on all my applications and NO ONE IS CALLING! I was wondering if it was just me or is anyone else experiencing this? I am an LPN with IV Certification and I have 14 months MED/Surg experience and working home health for almost 2 yrs now. So I dont think its my experience? Unless I am blind? Is anyone else having trouble getting work?
