Weatherford College
It doesn't matter if you apply in the beginning of the application period. You have to have completed the pre reqs in order to be to get the points for them. I applied the last week and got in. You get a certain amount of points and that is all that matters. You can contact the nursing department and Karen will email you their point system.

Applying for Tarrant County College Nursing, fall 2009
Hey there. This is what I know about the scoring system, it goes something like this. The teas counts for 11% science, 10% Math, 8% Reading, and English 8%. Then your science gpa accounts for 40%. The remaining 23% or so (I beleive it goes above 100%) goes towards the non-science pre reqs with psychology weighted the heaviest for that section. I hope this helps. It's too complicated to go by your overall scores. I've heard you can meet with an advisor and they will go over your individual status. Also, in regards to an earlier post from mmrush about Jonell Mitchell. I know it is frustrating and disappionting to recieve incorrect information especially when your life's plan is at stake. The same happened to me, so I asked several people over and over again and Ms. Mitchell was one of them. She had just lossed her husband and seemed a little scattered. So I guess my point is we are all human.

TCC Nursing program compared to others
I think we may have an instructor in common. I took AP 1 & 2 at NE campus over the summer and ended up not attending class or lab by AP2. I figured I could read, why waste my time in class. I just applied to the nursing program for fall so I can only answer by reiterating what I've been told by people I know who have graduated from TCCD. "It is challenging but doable, and structured... a terrific program." I guess we'll see. I'm applying to TAMU-CC as well because it is completely online and I thrive on independent learning. I'm also afraid of having the same experience as you... powerpoint reading straight from the text with zero insight. I just hope that I will have resources to be successful there if I am accepted and choose that route. Good Luck in your class... you'll get through it. Just my 2 cents.

Online BSN programs for non nurses
Could you give me information on TAMU-CC. I can not pm. How did you feel about the program? Where in DFW are the clinicals and how long did it take you. I am a very strong distance learner. If you had any issues was it because of the school or was it just not your learning style? Last question... is it possible to finish the program in 18 months? FYI- I completed 57 hours in the last 12 months. Any other helpful wisdom?

Nursing Schools
Hi there, This is an old thread but I have some questions re: TAMU-CC. I've been accepted into an ADN program for fall and just found out about their eline program. I learn best via distance learning on my own. In fact I never went to class for AP. There is not a lot of info on all nurses and I am not able to pm you. Would you mind answering some questions about their program if you did e-line? Was it organized? Do they have clinicals in DFW? Where? How long did it take you? Did you feel that you were prepared adequately? Any words of wisdom?

Carpool to Weatherford
I spoke to Karen on Friday- she said 21 points and above shouldn't have any problems. Also, she expects a lot of alternates will have the opportunity to be in the program because of the amount of people who apply to multiple places. Karen is so helpful. I love that she is so open about the information. It makes the waiting so much better!

Hi there! I have some ?'s How do you feel about the program? (WC had some bad stigma, but I don't know if it was legitimate.) At which hospitals are your clinicals? Is the nursing department flexible as far scheduling for commuters? The department chair stated to me that they consider the commute of students when assigning the Thurs skills lab as opposed to the 1/2 day Friday skills lab. And what are the theory days/times? One last thing, how many of the original applicants are still standing from your group? Thanks!

TCC Applicants - Encouragement
Thank you both for your insight and advise. I will be attending TCC NE. and would have been lost without the help of everyone and this website. For the last 7 yrs I have been ignored a continous "calling" to become a nurse. Through the Grace of God and sheer determination I will successfully manage the tight schedule. If I am not accepted for Spring 09, I will continue pre reqs for TWU or UTA. My goal is a MSN. I was taking the TCC route because of cost and it would allow me to gain work experience as a RN (faster) while I pursued my BSN (I'll need 1 yr ICU for my MSN). I'm in pursuit of becoming a NICU NP or CRNA. I know I probably sound like an ambitous 20 yr old, but I assure you at 31, a wife and mother of 2 kids and plenty of business adventures under my belt, my clarity is undeniable. Can anyone offer any words of advise on RN to MSN and TWU? Based on experience am I going about it the right way?
