  1. :innerconfMake 'em shave their head too! Better yet, wax their chest!
  2. :specs:Electricans, plumbers, bartenders and mechanics make more than a 4 year RN. Some factory workers without a 4 year degree make alot more than I do. They don't have to clean other people excrement either. It's a harsh world I've learned.
  3. Absolutely, assalting a nurse or any healthcare worker should be a felony and the public should be made aware of that change. As far as nursing being one the most respected professions, I have to strongly disagree. The public acts like they think they are entitled to verbally abuse nurses and treat them like they are slaves and God forbid it's not snappy or you'll get reported to your manager and they will have your job. I believe patients should be treated with all respect and dignity, but good grief, some people you have to be on pins and needles to deal with. Everybody wants to be somebody special. The customer is always right even if they are on drugs and demented. It's fine for Grandmother to hit or scratch the nurse because she is so sick. Hogwash! It ought to be a law where a person with long fingernails that is combative to have the nails cut, just like nurses are suppose to keep theirs short, not to hurt the patient or harbor germs. And you know where theirs have been, it doesn't come off with universal handwashing. Just what I would like to have is a big case of MRSA inflicted by someone's nasty nails. I've had people try to bite me too. If they have dentures, they get taken out if they have shown agression. I'd do as well working as a prison nurse. At least they have guards to protect you and you know there could be danger. Nurses don't have a chance with people on drugs and drunks and the mean little ladies with long fingernails. The security guards are usuallly retired pesonell that are not able to perform a labor intensive job. How do you get this passed in a state as a law? :w00t:
  4. :cheers:I understand that smoking causes cancer and it is terrible for your cardio and everybody needs to quit that does it. Rarely do I hear about drinking alcohol and the dangers and the stigma attached to it. Lets outlaw alcohol in the bars. Lets give the country clubs that serve alcohol a makeover and all the food chains that serve alcohol where people drive away and kill someone in a car accident or the lives that have been runied from drunk parents. Lets just not leave anyone out now.
  5. There is not enough money in the world to pay anyone for the crap nurses have to put up with, wheter it be a " calling" or not. We are exposed to hazards of all different types of body fluids, insects, and diseases thought of. We are treated like second class citizens by the public, doctors, and superiors. We have 12 to 14 hours shifts to work and no way out of them, except quit the job and lose your home and starve your family. Every day is full of cleaning up another person's excrement that is up to your elbows and listening to people complain during which a nurse must compose themselves with a smile and say the right thing, in the right tone. Nurses for the most part are hard working and have more stamina than athletes. Not to mention the mental and intelectual challenges they face. No wonder nurses get burnt out and have musculosketetal difficulties. There is nothing glorious about the pay either. Construction workers, plumbers, electricians and mechanics make more than nurses do and get more respect. In it for the money? I don't think so!
