Dear LJascoe, I found that Moseby's LVN/LPN study guide helped. I passed my boards on the first try. Check it out. It's very informative and comes with a practice test CD. The book is sold at places like Borders and Barnes and Noble. Good luck!!!!!

Dear momtomany07, I'm a mother of four and went to LVN school full-time for a year back in 2000-2001. My daughter was 5, while my three older boys were 12,13, and 14. I ended-up quitting my job so I could go to school and in the long-run it was worth it. Being a single mom it was tough! But I encourage you to go with the LPN program. It's better pay and you will be able to further your career, if you decide to go on for your RN. Also remember there are different places of employment you can accept. Here where I live (Thousand Oaks, CA) there are dozens of LVN jobs in the doctor's office setting, as well as the school district. If you are looking for work hours that are compatible with your family, check to see if your local school district is hiring LVN's to work in the health office. I currently work my local school district and it has been a blessing. My hours are 8:30am-3pm. I can take my daughter to school in the morning and have time for my family at night. And the pay is not too bad either. (I'm making $20.00 per hr.) Don't be discouraged that the only job you can take is in the hospital. There are jobs out there that can fit the needs of a mom. Look on the internet at Yahoo nursing jobs. They provided a great source of information. But don't forget about the school districts. Good luck and God Bless you!!! April:wink2:

To all you beautiful LVN's out there- Have you ever gotten the feeling that LVN's aren't considered as valuable as RN's? I live out here near Los Angeles, California and it seems the trend now is that employers just don't want to mess with LVN's. Except for our school districts, it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain hospital jobs. It seems that hospitals want RN's only. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Dear lrh3200, It is my pleasure to give you information on the experience I had with The College Network. By the way, in what city are you located? Don't give up hope. There has got to be a program in or near your city that has an LVN to RN program that is suitable to your needs. Keep me posted. Also, I wanted to really emphasize that The College Network courses ARE NOT transferable to another institution. So if you plan on going on to get your master's degree you won't get credit for the classes you've taken thru College Network. :wink2: April

I just wanted to input my experience with The College Network/Indiana State LVN-RN Bridge program. I found that I really did not receive the support I needed in this program. You are pretty much on your own. I ended-up quitting the program. For those of you that are located in the Los Angeles, California area there are two programs that cater to the needs of working LVN's. Mount St. Mary's College in L.A. has a new Associate Degree in Nursing program. The hours are in the afternoon/evening. You do your clinical hours on the weekend. Also, Glendale Community College in Glendale, CA has an afternoon/evening program with clinicals held on weekends as well. Hope this helps. For those of you who are considering an on-line, distance LVN to RN program, please carefully consider what you're getting into. I think that it is better to be in the classroom setting so you are receiving the full attention that you deserve. Online programs are too impersonal. From my experience, I felt that I had no one to turn to and if I had a question about anything, my phone calls went unanswered. Good luck to all of you who are persuing your RN.
