Palliative Care Specialty Questions
Hi, Is there a difference between palliative care nursing and hospice care nursing? Can anyone point me in the direction of online certification/specialty programs? I did some research into certs., but found it rather confusing. It seemed to me that there are at least two organizations that offer certification, but I couldn't find much about the course work/education (pre-cert.) programs. Thank You!

Things you would LOVE to say to your nursing instructors...
Please treat me fairly and with respect. Remember: I PAY YOUR SALARY! I wonder if the "nursing shortage" is actually caused from the student level? Plastic Faux-people don't come close to the real thing...no matter how many thousands of dollars they cost or what types of perfect lung and heart sounds they can emit. I cannot practice on plastic and be expected to demostrate near perfection in reality. My patients haven't been taught to respond in black and white. Positive reinforcemnt goes a very long way. What we lack is confidence not brain cells.

Healthy women schedule C-sections to prevent vaginal stretching
my take on this is that there are two lives involved in the process, not just mom. this topic has concerned me for a long time. i even wrote an ethics research paper on the subject. i'm a nursing student, but one of my prime areas of interest is women's health. i worry that if i was to seek a position in ob that i would go crazy trying to keep my mouth shut and not beat the education band wagon. my first child was born via "emergency" c-section. it was a total nighmare. it took me 3 months to feel right again, and i was very depressed about having what felt like a "surgical removal" rather than a "birth". my second child was born with a hard fought for vbac. i read everything i could get my hands on. i even hired a midwife to act as a doula/advocate for me in the hospital. after fairly long labor the md told me he'd give me (and the doula) 20 more minutes to push before a section. that was the incentive i needed! that kid came flying out! the third time was a charm. i exercised hard all though the pregnancy and had an awesome, short labor and delivery. it was an incredible and positive-spiritual experience. i was ready to go home an hour later and cook everyone dinner. (not that it happened : ) the last baby was born 4 years ago. you would be hard pressed to find an md here that would allow for a vbac now. so, if a woman has an "elective" section there is no going back with future pregnancies. i really do believe that education is the key!

What if you have a bachelor's degree in another discipline and are getting a ADN?
i have a b.a in english/education and am in an "adn" program however to get my bsn all i need to do is take a couple more classes (statistics, nutrition, organic chem). we live in a small community and one of the state universities offers a distance learning program for adn's that want a bsn with or without a prior ba/bs. in fact, i took one of the classes that i will need along with my other nursing courses this last quarter. another option (the one i'm most interested in) is the master's program for rn's that have a prior ba in another feild but became an rn via the "adn" route like myself.
