Learn To Say It Correctly!!
I'll confess I prounounce it JAG-wahr. That's better than saying, "JAG-wire", IMO. My DH can't say "aluminum" to save his life.

Learn To Say It Correctly!!
There's a national radio ad playing in my area now that says that. So sad.

Are Allied Health training programs exacerbating the nursing shortage?
I love your question and have thought that for a long time. I'm taking prereqs for an RN program and there are lots of people doing the same prereqs for the MA in classes with me. I want to tell them, "You're going to be looking for a job for a LONG TIME!!!" But, they never ask my opinion, so......

Pondering a Nursing Degree-Please Help
In my state (WA) you can take classes at many nursing homes. Find a reputable one that you would want to work for, present yourself well in the interview. The classes don't take long to complete.

Pondering a Nursing Degree-Please Help
I'm also an ex-realtor, now a CNA, and 6 months from starting a 2-year program. I LOVE my job, because I get more "Thank You's" than I ever got as a realtor. I mean, I get them every night!! (That's what keeps me going for now, cause it sure ain't the pay.) I'm doing a two-year classroom program, because I don't see myself in management right out of school, and at my age (43), I need to get through in 2 years, not 3 or 4. I have the brains to do a BSN, just not the time. Good luck to you.

Struggling to raise GPA
You can't know for sure until you speak with the advisor. I thought I knew what I was going to hear before I did so, and was very pleasantly surprised and relieved after I finally met with her.

I was a ______ prior to being a nurse/student nurse
Ditto that (except for the dermatology part). This time around, I'm getting along well with others and impressing the instructors by not talking during class. It makes a night and day difference.

I was a ______ prior to being a nurse/student nurse
Fun thread, thanks for starting it. I worked at a Wendy's in HS, dropped out of x-ray tech school 3 years later. I didn't enjoy it because I wanted to be more involved with the patients, although I didn't realize it at the time. Met my husband, then started working on fishing boats winter, spring and summer in Seattle and Alaska. I had so much fun. Was a SAHM for 10 years, finished Junior College (so I thought) then was a teacher's aide, then a real estate agent. I'm working on a CNA right now, and with all the classes I took right after HS and when I finally finished, I have only 2 classes to go to be able to start RN program.

Question for RNs. . . current nursing problems.
I'll say. That comment really torqued me, bad enough to sign up here. I am in school to eventually earn an RN, however if I were to be in a BSN program, I may not be able to finish due to circumstances beyond my control. Then where would I be?? I'm perfectly willing to take the hard classes, AFTER I earn my RN. I have a lot to lose. Do/did the poster that said that have a lot to lose when they earned their BSN??? I have a family, a mortgage, 2 car payments, a part-time job, and 2 kids. Throw a tough class and an illness into that (mess) and guess what, I'm gone.
