thanks janfrn, am sure got a lot of preparations to do. i am grateful though that crnbc granted my request for a re-entry program and i'll be starting this may 2009 (1st semester), surely this program will help me upgrade and get into the right track. i asked for a reschedule on my sec assessment, hoping that by then somehow i can already be confident enough to take it, though they are giving me only until jan. 14, 2010. god will surely see me through!

that's what makes it difficult for me fiona59 because after passing the local board i have not practiced my nursing profession since i went back to my dental practice which is my first profession, i graduated 2004. thus, it worries me, however, am preparing for it right now. though i very much prefer taking the re-entry program for ien instead of going through sec assessment, but crnbc requires me to undergo the assessment thing so i have no other choice but to yield. thanks to narmeen for the inputs about sec assessment!!!

hi guys! crnbc requires me to take the complete sec assessment on med/surg nursing, maternity, pediatric and psychiatric nursing. it will be a 5-day 'toxic' period, though am already preparing for it now. however, has anyone experienced the complete sec assessment, please share you experience so i can have,more or less, an idea on what will transpire by the time my turn comes. am sure any shared experience would somehow bring relief to my anxious thoughts. thanks in advance!

you've been such a great help, unselfishly sharing your experience to worried sick like me. thanks i've been quite relieved knowing that there won't be any actual patient involved. however, the 2-day assessment really seem to be very tough...so help me god! i always claim his word from joshua 1:10,"do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the lord your god is with you wherever you go."...these words of assurance were repeated a couple of times to moses and i trust him every step of the way.

thanks again narmeen18! that was really a prompt reply...anyway, sorry to bother you again, but i still have a lot of querries...like in day 1, afternoon period, you were given 7 cards to perform, was that 7 different cases in one patient? or 7 different cases on 7 different patients with varried health conditions which you have to attend to from admission to discharge? and in day 2, morining session, was the short answer & question, with drugs, drug calculations and situational based scenarios done by pen & paper exam (written) or was it a one-on-one or panel type of thing (oral recitation)? then, in the afternoon, the 11 scenarios given to read & respond...how was it done? lastly, the triple jump assessment...how was it done? do you have an actual 'supposed-to-be' patient with whom you fill in the necessary data & make nursing care plan? i hope you can still spare some more time to respond to my enquiries. thanks. may god bless you.

thank you very much narmeen18, you shared a very detailed experience, am so grateful for taking time to reply! at least, now i have an idea on how sec assessment is done. you said it is a 2-day assessment, i thought it's for 5 days, but surely, it is very difficult basing from your testimony. especially the drug calculations...that really worries me a lot. can you give me some of the cases on drug calculations that you have gone through, only those that you can remember, please?! i will definitely let you know whatever happens to my sec assessment and post some pointers too by then. as of now i was not given any schedules yet, but was already told that i will undergo the said assessment...still waiting when that day would be...may god be with me! by the way, what happened to you next after the sec assessment? if you don't mind me asking. thanks again, you were such a great help.

i really gained a lot of info from you...thanks soundbites for the details you have shared. i just applied for registration at crnbc 2 weeks ago and they said that the pre-assessment to the final assessment takes about 2-3months. my worries lies on the number of working hours that i earned when i was yet in the phils. unfortunately, i have not really practiced my profession as an rn in the philippines since after i passed the local board exam, i went back to my first profession...i am a dentist. thus, i had only a series of trainings (o.r. training for 1 month; i.v. therapy training and basic life support, cpr & aed courses). by the way i graduated (bsn) last oct. 2004. crnbc is giving me until 2009 only, after that they will require me to have a refresher course. what do you think will be the outcome of my crnbc application...will they advise me to take a re-entry program before they allow me to write the crne? i am left hanging until now and 2009 is nearing...am losing time here...i don't know if i should enrol in a review class or just wait for the result of the assessment...but it takes long. at present i am unemployed, am looking for one, at least a job that will enhance my nursing skills, but i know that even nursing aide position requires a certificate...do you have any idea of employers not requiring certificates? my family & i am residing temporarily in my husband's grandmother's house at port alberni, bc (vancouver islands), but will be transferring next month to richmond,bc...hoping there will be more job opportunities in store for us especially that we have our 2 sons with us (9&11 years old). hope to hear from you and other nurses who read this message...your ideas will be highly appreciated. thank you.

Thanks a lot for the firsthand info. I arrived from the Philippines to Canada last Sept.14, 2008 and is now settled here at Port Alberni, BC(Vancouver Islands) staying with my husband's grandma's house. I already applied for registration at CRNBC before I left the Phils., and recently the IELTS result and the school documents followed then the PRC requested docs and payed the fee for registration. I believe that step #1 were already accomplished last October 7, 2008, when do you think, I'll hear from CRNBC? Next month? I really want to apply for a temporary permit so I can start working as a nurse(start earning the 250 hours) while waiting for the scheduled exam. Another concern is that, I am seeking for review materials that can help me in my self-review since I am not planning to enrol in any review class because it cost a lot...in short, I can't afford it. Thus, please help me seek review materials, especially the compilations of previous exams and Mosby Reviewer if any; if any one can sell it to me at a lower price...much better. I already have the CRNBC Review Prep Guide 4th edition given to me as a gift by a friend from Toronto. GOD willing, the CRNBC will send me a letter regarding exam schedule preferred date, I will take the February schedule. Please help me with the reviewers that I need. Thanks. thank you chinky! however, my status is not working visa but immigrant visa. thus, i need to comply with the requirement details enumerated by the crnbc as what soundbites has shared & i gathered from surfing the internet...i will surely do every step of the procedure needed with all patience, for me to register as a nurse, write & pass the licensure exam and work as a licensed registered nurse...by god's grace i can do it!!!

am really thankful for the info that soundbites are sharing!!! truly my queries are answered while i was reading the responses imparted from his actual experience. in my case, i downloaded crnbc forms from the web last may 2008 and filled them up, gave the request forms to the school i graduated from here in the philippines and to prc(regulatory body in my country). the request forms are ready to be mailed to crnbc except that i personally pleaded to the 2 institutions to postpone it yet since i will still be writing the ielts exam this aug.30. do you think i can forward my crnbc application as early as now, along with the payment for processing. then advice the 2 institutions to submit the requests after 2 weeks? by then my ielts result will follow. will the crnbc interrogate me regarding the dates reflected on the request forms (from my school and prc)...they might wonder why the request forms were sought early and mailed so late. my family and i will be leaving for canada next month and stay at my husband's lola at port alberni for the time being, so with regards to the necessary address in case of mailings from crnbc then i already have that. please extend your advice to me on this regard. thank you & god bless!

hi! i am aware of the process that i need to go through before i can work as an rn in canada, from applying for a registration to writing the crne. and i will be preparing for that soon. thank you anyway for the input you sent. my concern is that after living with my husband's grandma temporarily, we plan to move and settle to another city and be permanent residents of that place and not venture to another. so far we consider victoria and another is nanaimo.

Congratulations!!! How was it? was it really a difficult exam? What review materials did you use and how many months did you prepared for the licensure exam? I'm planning to write also perhaps early next year...

Hi there! Am waiting for my visa along with my family, as immigrants. Though we will be living with my husband's grandma at Port Alberni, BC for time being, we still have plans of settling elsewhere as soon as we are able to do so. Can you suggest of a nice province to live...I was surfing the internet and i find Victoria as one of our considerations...except for a disadvantage of a high cost of living. Another consideration is Nanaimo...is it a nice place to settle down too? Please advise. Thanks. We will be leaving the Philippines by September this year...GOD willing.

thank you very much for your prompt answer to my inquiries, i really appreciate it. active registration with one of the nursing colleges in canada? do you mean to say, i need to enroll to a nursing college there before anything else, even when i have already finished my bsn outside canada? i have already passed the ielts as pre-requisite to the documents submitted to the canadian embassy. i thought that the credentials assessment would allow them to gauge your nursing standard in relation to their (canadian) standard, then they would let you take the eligibility exam before finally writing the licensure exam to make one a registered nurse there.

hi there! am wondering if you have already taken your sec assessment? what is it for? is it a pre-requisite for crne or carna? where did you take the exam...just wondering. my family and i have applied for an immigrant canadian visa which is yet on process until now. i am curious as to the nursing system of hiring in canada since i'm also a registered nurse (philippines), i understand that one needs to have his/her credentials assessed, then take the eligibility exam before one can write the licensure exam to be a registered nurse in canada. kindly extend some advise as to these matters. are there other ways where one can work as a nurse while he/she has not yet taken any exams to become an rn in canada?

me & my family have just submitted our updated documents and is yet waiting for any further advise regarding our immigrant visa application, we plan to settle at british columbia. is it allowed to have my credentials assessed even when my visa application is yet on process? thank you very much for your reply!
