  1. I don't understand how it's not being a team player and demanding of an employer to work the schedule you were hired for. It tells me she had healthy boundaries. If they are chronically short staffed (by design, I'm sure) that is not her problem. It is the employer's problem and up to them to fix it.
  2. I went back to school for nursing at age 47 after many years in an entirely different field. Now I'm 54 and enrolled in a DNP program. You'll be in good company :)
  3. Doubt you'll get called for an interview. And saying you're sorry - my guess is you're sorry you were caught. At least that's how I'd interpret it
  4. Don't worry about appearing ungrateful or unprofessional. They are attempting to take advantage of you.
  5. Hi RunLove13, I am happy with my choice. However, I 'm sure I would have been very happy at UIC as well. If I had attended UIC, I think I would have gone part time the first year to establish residency then gone full time paying in state tuition. Part of the reason I'm so happy with my choice is I'm absolutely in love with Seattle. I don't think I'd ever live in the Midwest again. Also - NPs have full autonomy in WA. They don't in IL. As far as tips, I was pretty clear on why I wanted to be a NP - I think that helped
  6. Hi illingal, I tried responding to this and for some reason I can't see it. So I'll try again. I do think it is a group interview; however I would have been commuting from Rochester, MN so I was able to do an interview via Skype. For some reason, we couldn't connect, so I just interviewed on the phone. I interviewed with the program lead for psych. I had already talked to her at length about the program in the past, so she knew who I was. The questions were primarily focused on why I wanted to get my DNP, what I understood the NP role to be, where my interests lie, what I might want my DNP project to be, etc. It was very low key and casual. I ended up accepting the University of Washington's offer and moved to Seattle. Please message me if you have any other questions.
  7. Hi Kfitzy89, Yes, Rush is the real deal. If you look at their curriculum compared to some other schools you will see what I mean. It is online which is not a good fit for me. They do, however, give you the option of taking the initial classes on campus.
  8. Hi [COLOR=#003366]nurse carla Espinosa, I ended up accepting an offer from the University of Washington and moved to Seattle instead. As for advice, I'd focus on a good essay. You can PM me also. good luck.
  9. I was also accepted to the University of Washington and am attending there. I can tell you I was impressed with the curriculum at Rush.
  10. Ok guys. I started a FB group. Search for UW DNP Fall 2014 cohort. If you can't find it, pm me here and I'll send you a link.
  11. I was accepted about a month ago. DNP Psych track. Full time and when I met with my adviser and was interviewed I was told both FT and PT are online. Have you heard different?
  12. I was accepted about a month ago. DNP Psych track. I currently live in MN and am thinking of relocating to Chicago.
  13. I'm the PMHNP track. I was also accepted to Rush so am waiting for word on scholarship packages. I know some of us are moving from out of state. Is anyone interested in maybe starting a FB group? I'd be interested in communicating more and also seeing about getting a room mate :).
  14. I'm at the Chicago campus. Was accepted to 2 other programs now I have to decide where I want to go :).
  15. Hi PNW_NPstudent, I have applied to Harborview and the VA. Harborview has a tuition waiver of up to 6 credits that meet specific criteria. I talked to the school and it seems my NP classes won't be covered. As a nurse with a 1 year, 8 months experience, I make a little over $32/hr not counting shift diff. My current housing expense is $750 which includes utilities, etc. I don't know how much more (if any) I could expect to make in Seattle and for sure my housing will be much higher. I am flying out tomorrow to check it out. I was also accepted to UIC today. Thanks for your input.
  16. Thank you Juan de la cruz. WSU is surprisingly not the lowest in tuition. UIC is. If I attend UIC (won't hear back until mid April), my plan is to work FT school PT for a year to establish residency then continue FT with resident rates which are in the mid$400. WSU is 988 a credit hour (!) and they don't seem to have any scholarships/grants to speak of. They are the only of the 3 that offers a MSN. The other two are DNPs. I'm aware of UW's reputation and it is my understanding the rankings are based primarily on research and I have talked to a couple of students who are suggesting I think long and hard before moving there. The cost of living in Seattle is more than 300% higher than here (MN). I'm from Detroit and have done a lot of volunteer in the inner city, I see all the good things that are beginning to happen and want to be a part of it. UIC seems like it might be a good compromise for me. WSU seems to be well respected and the program is completely traditional (non online) which appeals to me. I'm planning on getting a MSN if I choose WSU for the reason you mentioned. I've thought about also getting my FNP after I'm done with this. Also - I just started my nursing career at age 50 and the idea of accumulating so much debt (none so far) makes me nauseated. Another question - how much difference do you think it makes after I graduate what school I went to anyway? My BSN was from a school not on anyone's radar and I was hired at Mayo right out of school.
  17. Hi, I've been accepted to 2 programs (and still waiting a decision from UIC). Wayne State University and the University of Washington. WSU is a MSN (although I could start in the DNP program in the fall) and UW is a DNP program. Both are PMHNP. I would like to hear experiences anyone has had with either. I wanted a traditional in class program so that eliminated many online programs. Any insight would be appreciated. I'll be moving sometime this summer after I decide. Thank you!
  18. My acceptance letter was waiting for me when I got home last night :).
  19. Hi [COLOR=#003366]CaityV, I received my invitation to interview today. Did you have yours yet? If not, I bet you could call graduate admissions for some insight on what to expect for the essay. I know when I called for an status update on my application I was told if I was interviewed the questions would primarily focus on what my goals and expectations were. She told me what the essay question might be and I sure can't remember. I'm calling again tomorrow. If you had yours, care to share? Good Luck!! sobergirl
  20. 1. Minnesota 2. 1 3. Psych 4. Hourly Pay 31.11 5. Afternoon diff - .70 6. Union. Yep.
  21. Here is the name of the FB group: UAB NP Fall 2013 Cohort
  22. Hi [COLOR=#003366]SoBlessed_RN, I got into to PMHNP program too!! Reading these, I was beginning to think I was the only one from here that applied too. I'm not entirely sure if I'm going in June or July. Would sure like to meet someone from my program though :). Amy
  23. I wear Sketchers Shape Ups and love them! I also have PF and these work for me.
  24. Just got my letter today-I am super excited!
  25. Fuzzywuzzy is right - don't go buying a ton of supplies! I think all you need is a stethoscope, watch w/a second hand (and for me a big face), pen and maybe a small pad of paper. If you practice, practice, practice the skills you'll do fine. The class was not hard at all. Good luck!
