  1. Check out Current Visa Bulletin http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_5019.html Even if you would apply to come here now -- it looks like it would take a very long time until you can start working here. Priority date is now August 15, 2003. So people who had applied at that time will be the next to get a work permit. Germany would be located under employment based 3rd. Also, I don't know if you have what it takes to have your license be transferred to the US. Maybe just paperwork etc is all that you need. And you can get things started But if it goes slow like it does know there is no way of telling when you will be getting your H1B to get here. Good luck Andrea
  2. I had my interview yesterday. And it seems like a good place. They have 30 people on the subacute floor which is covered by 3 nurses (LPN and RN). I had a very good feeling for it -- now I just have to wait for them to call me back -- to see if they like me, as well. My only concern is paper charting. I am a computer person. And in all of clinical rotations I just loved using the computer. And now back to paper charting.. that can be tricky and time consuming. But I am up for the challenge. I am ready to finally get my hands dirty.
  3. I will have my real interview with the nurse manager on Tuesday. And at that point I will also see if they let me smell their place. It could be a good indicator about the place. And then we will see. But the fact is that I don't have any options being an international nurse -- and I have to take whatever I can get. And if this place wants me -- then I want that place. So I will just do my best and see that I won't fall too behind in schedule and then go from there.
  4. That sounds like a hard job waiting for me. But here is the question. How can one person be in charge of 15 patients when the ratio in hospitals is around 8 patients per RN? Am I missing something? On the other hand I will be able to learn many skills so that I don't feel making a big mistake by not going into a hospital first. I just feel that the workload will be much higher than in a hospital. Or will I get more salary based on a higher workload? Can a new grad be able to get through a shift after only 6 weeks of training? I think I will have three weeks orientation and then 3 weeks with a mentor before I will be on my own. I'm really looking forward to finally start to work as nurse - but the closer everything comes the more scared I get. Especially, after reading the last post.....
  5. Finally, I have found a place who might be interested in hiring me. But now I am getting nervous as I always thought that you should start your RN career in a hospital - rather than in a nursing home. I was offered a possible job in a sub-acute area of a longterm care facility where I would need to do IVs etc. So I assume that I would have to perform skills etc. But is this is a good choice? How about work conditions and/or pay? I really don't care much about pay but I would like to get at least what I would get in a hospital. How about ratios? Is it true that an RN in a LTC has a bigger ratio than in a hospital? Thank you for your comments.
  6. Yes. They had the quick results but it wasn't at 8am Eastern Time. I have checked an hour ago and found out that I passed. I still can't believe but if they say that I passed than this should be the answer.... :pumpiron: I DID IT!!!
  7. It has been now more than 48 hours since I took the NCLEX and I can't see results on Pearsonvue or on Nursing Website. Maybe I am not there becasue I didn't give a social security number -- as I just recently applied for it and haen't received it yet. But Pearsonvue should have posted this no matter what. Or am I wrong?
  8. And in the meantime I will try to start studying some more. Not that I didn't do this ever since I finished nursing school in december.
  9. I came home from my NCLEX test a few hours ago. And, although I have read that a lot people, who think they fail pass, doesn't make me feel like this would happen to me. I think I got too many easy questions in a row......
  10. I have received one information from a hospital up there that they won't even hire me on my basis as OPT as they don't know if I would be able to stay for longer than these twelf months. SO I guess my first bet would be to find somebody who would hire me as an OPT with the option of filing all the other paperwork afterwards. I am already in the States for almost 8 years and could apply for residendy but my country (germany) doesn't allow dual citizenship which would mean that I would give up my German citizenship with all my retirements I have already accumulated. If this is the only way for me to stay -- than I will have to do this. But I would prefer something where I can still go back into country where all of my family is.
  11. Thank you. I can need all the luck in the world. I have called many nursing recruters at varies hospitals but so far I can't get them to call me back. All I was asking them was if they would generally hire nurses on OPT -- and if so - if they could call me back. So either they don't like my accent or they don't hire OPT people.
  12. I have spoken to two different hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland. And both of them said that they nobody there would hire international nurses. Do you know if there is a different from the countries people are coming from. I am from Germany and I don't think that too many German nurses come over to America. But I assume that the available visas are for all nationalities together. Until this morning I thought I wouldn't have any problem finding work here. But now things have changed and I feel that all the hard work I have been doing was for nothing.
  13. I will be finishing my RN ADN program next month. When I tried to find a job I received information that scared me. I was told that, because of the retrogression, they wouldn't even hire me for my 12 months occupational training (which should be decided in december or january). Could this mean that I went to school here for nothing? And that I don't have a chance of ever working here? Thank you for your help. Andrea
