Young Eating Unit Secretaries
I am a Unit secretary in the ICU/CCU at my hospital. It's a great job, stressful, but a great job non the less. We have 20 beds between both units, so we're kinda small, but very busy 98% of the time. For some reasone we are understaffed most of the time, and we have NO dayshift CNA's in the unit. So, it falls on me to help out with patients. I'm not complaining here, I'm trying to get into a Nursing program at my local community college, and it's great experience. I'm not just a US though, sometimes I have to be a CNA, and Security Officer. Sometimes I'm the only man in the unit when we have an unrully patient and I have to help the nurse out. Unit Secretaries have a stressful job as well, but I love it, and I love my nurses too. Although, they could answer a phone once in a while..

what do you expect from your unit secretary?
As a Unit Sec. your nurses depend on you for everything. Everything that comes into the Unit goes through you. The Nurse in charge is your best friend. She/He Tells you where and when your patients are coming from or going to. You put charts together, take off orders, basically a go-for extraordinaire. It's a great job, it's a stressful job:banghead:. I'm going into nursing school next year, and am doing this for experience. If you can make it as a U. Sec. I'm sure being a nurse will be easier...hopefully...I work in the CCU at my hospital and it's pretty awesome.

Polling our male nurses: What area of nursing are you currently in right now?
I start Nursing School next year. Right now I'm a unit Secretary in the CCU, and that's where I plan to stay.

Unit Secretary
My positon is PRN and my super. told me that not alot of people apply for a unit secretary's position PRN. I had also put my appl. in earlier to be a CCP(Clinical Care Provider), and I didn't get that because you have to be a 1st year RN student, and I wasn't. So, when the position came up she remembered me.

Unit Secretary
I'm a Unit Secretary in the CCU at my hospital. I'm trying to get into the Nursing Program at the Community College close by me. I just started the job and I've learned so much from the Nurses and other Secretaries. It's a really cool job getting a "behind the scene" look at what goes on at a hospital. My experience has done nothing but make me want to be a Nurse even more. P.S. Don't tick off Unit Secretaries they can be....well believe me I'm still in training.
