I used to be a teacher. I will say, I found teaching A LOT easier than nursing. That being said, I make literally double the money being a nurse than I did being a teacher. I miss teaching, but would probably never go back to it because of the financial aspect.

I work in a Medicine step-down unit. We are a small unit, only 12 beds, but at any given time I would say we have at least one patient in restraints. Bilateral soft wrist restraints are the most common. 3 points are also common, because when you go up to 4 point restraints our policy is that there has to be a PNA (sitter) with the patient at all times. Sometimes we use the soft restraints for 4 points as well, but if they're being very aggressive/combative, we call hospital police and get a special key for 4 point leather restraints. I've been on the unit 1 year and have only had 3 patients in leathers, so it's not super common but not unheard of. I think it's absolutely necessary to implement restraints. Pts risk pulling out medically necessary devices or getting out of bed due to confusion and falling and injuring themselves. We have 3 patients total per RN, so we can't spend all of our time babysitting one.

And got the pop up "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time." Did I really pass? Like honestly, I know people say they feel like they failed, but I honestly felt there was no way I passed. The whole thing was just a cruel guessing game.

I just completed the Kaplan readiness test. It was 180 questions and I got a 61.1%. This does not sound good at all. Should I reschedule? I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX on 9/23 which is less than 2 weeks away!

No, I don't see a percentage likely to pass on the nclex. This was the diagnostic, not the readiness. Is it supposed to tell me that?

So I just took the 180 question Kaplan Diagnostic test and got a 55%...that sounds awful!!! It doesn't say what that means, either. Like on ATI when I took those tests, it would compare me to average, etc. Is this a normal score for this test?? I feel like I should have done better..

Woohoo! I just got accepted off the waitlist, too!

Wow I am absolutely floored right now. I wasn't even waitlisted- I was flat out denied. I was told the only reason I was waitlisted was for my prerequisite not being completed by application time last time I applied. I am stunned. I had an undergraduate GPA of 3.56, a 3.8 science GPA, volunteer experience, etc. I just cannot believe it. I felt CERTAIN I would get in.

Don't get down on yourself, you never know until you get that letter in the mail! There have been 5 people I know, plus myself, who have applied without completed prerequisites and all either were waitlisted or denied. Really, they should just make it a requirement to have them completed in order to apply if they're not going to take anybody without them, but I guess they want that app. fee.

I am not a UNC alum. I am THINKING I will get in because when I spoke with the admissions director she all but assured me I would get in, so I think my hopes are waaaaaay up which probably isn't smart because if I don't get in, I will be really upset. I don't know anyone in the last 2 years who has gotten in without having their prereqs. completed, so if you're waitlisted, just get those done and reapply and I'm sure you'll get in.

I know how that feels I was so sad when I go waitlisted last time I applied. I live so close to UNC, I wonder why I haven't gotten my letter yet?!?!

Definitely. I've heard if you're just not qualified they will tell you straight up that you need to look into community college and stop wasting your time, basically. The director of admissions told me that it was only that I hadn't completed that prereq. so complete that, do well in it, and in the additional essay where you can write about things you've done to enhance your application this time around if you are a reapplicant to put that I spoke with her.
