Appreciate your last comment. Sounds like we have similar profession experience. I also worked with an autistic teen, respite care. Well, I would honestly contact someone in the nursing school, briefly give them your background info and ask for there advice. (regarding volunteer experience). U'r ideas on that sound pretty solid to me. Regarding the law school thing: I seriously would not worry too much about it. I would think your social work background would speak volumes. Plus on the bright side, not sure where u went to law school but I am sure it wasn't easy to get into. Sounds like you would be competitive on an academic level. When u'r ready to apply to UNC u have a 3rd essay option to explain yourself with the law school issue. It could actually come across as a very noble decision, to switch direction from law to nursing. One more thing, having spent way too many hours obessively sorting through this sight reading previous post, it sounds like having your prereqs completed before u apply would be in u'r favor. I actually think UNC is going to make it a requirement next year. Best of luck to u as well. ....

I would think your background in social work would be a real asset. My interpretation of the "volunteer experience" means they want those who contribute to their community and who have an interest in serving that community. Can't think of a better example than one who's in the social work field. That was my former profession as well, about 10 years in the DD/MR field. I would have thought that my professional background would really enhance my application to UNC, but now I have my doubts. As far as volunteering, have u ever thought of volunteering on a direct-care level at a local residential facility for people with mental retardation/developmental disability? From what I have been told, the direct-care aspect speaks alot of one's commitment to nursing. Just a thought.

Still nothing in the mail today. I'm not sure how much longer I can stand the wait. I emailed the contact person today at UNC's Nursing school, pretty much pleading for some insight and was only told that all letters were mailed out last week. Still, I literally live just down the road from UNC and am not sure what to think of why I have not received anything yet, since I know of several people who have. I'm honestly not feeling too positive about getting in. I imagine they notify the accepted applicants first. Either way, I really just need to know for some general peace of mind. It's getting harder to sleep at night as each day passes.

I worked with the developmentally disabled population for several years, mostly in DC but some of my past professional experience was here in Chapel Hill and Durham. Was your volunteer work with the disabled local? Curious to hear which population you volunteered with? Also volunteered here with the HIV/Aids community in DC for about a year.

Still have not received anything from UNC and I thought for sure I would get something today. Not sure what to make of that????? I don't think I can stand the wait any much longer. Knowing I am completing my final prereq this semester, I can't imagine that I would get accepted. Truly sorry to hear about everyones admissions status. I imagine that I will be joining the group fairly soon.

From what you are saying I would feel confident too if I was in your situation. Sounds very promising. So, in the last two years no one that you know with completed prereqs has gotten in? Guess that pretty much sums up my chances. Are these alot of people whom u are referring too? Keeping my fingers crossed for u.

Sorry to hear about that. I can imagine how you feel. I bet it was just a matter of not having your prereqs met. If you don't get in this round, you'll get in come Jan, which is not as far away as it might seem. Hope u don't mind me asking, but did they give you any indication on where u fall on the waitlist? I just got a message from a friend/classmate and that person was also waitlisted. I did not receive anything from UNC today. I have this feeling in the gut of my stomach that I will not be getting in. I just hope it's a matter of not having the prereqs complete. Any of u guys UNC-CH alumni? I wonder it that is any advantage? Thanks.

Thanks so much for that information. I will definitely take your advice if I am in that situation. Do you think they gave you honest feedback on your chances of reapplying? I was wondering if they are straightforward about one's chances if they reapply?

CarolinaGirl84, I can relate. These days I am pretty much camped outside my mailbox. When you were initially waitlisted, did u meet face to face with someone from the Nursing school? I am curious to hear about that process and what they informed you about your options should you reapply? I am worried that my one remaining prereq will be a negative and I want to weigh my options should I not get in this round. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for the info. Your friends who were rejected due to incomplete prereqs, were they advised to reapply? Or did they reapply and get accepted their 2nd time? Keeping my fingers crossed for u as well. Thanks Again!

I think "the most highly rated applicants...ect" just means that they will offer admissions/acceptance to those applicants who they deem most qualified out of the entire applicant pool. And I do think they send their admissions decisions to undergraduate admissions, who then notify the applicants. Hope that makes sense? Curious if u have completed all of your prerequisites before applying? I am currently taking my final prereq and I fear that may make me less competitive. I read through the transcripts from the chat sessions available on UNC's website. Although it is not yet required to have all prereqs completed prior to applying, I got the impression that it definitely could be a deterrent. Anyway, I also read that if one is rejected they have the option of getting feedback from UNC to see if they have an honest chance of being accepted if they reapply, meaning getting initially rejected may only be an issue of not having all prereqs completed. When you spoke with that person, did u get the impression that they were actually mailing out the remaining notifications this week? Or just sending their recommendations to undergraduate admission, which would take more time for us to get? I'll be sure to let you know if I hear anything. Good luck, btw. Thanks!

mmm, not sure? where exactly did you read that at (your quote)? I've combed through the Nursing school's website, but I must have missed that one. From my understanding, the nursing school notifies undergraduate admissions who they want to admit/reject and then undergrad admissions sends out notifications. I graduated from UNC several years ago and that is how it worked back then, things could have changed though.

They were not a UNC student. They were a 2nd degree seeking student and that person was actually notified that they did not get in. Wasn't not sure if that was good news for me, since I have (as of Saturday's mail) still not heard anything. Btw, thanks for the reply.

I applied to UNC Chapel Hill's 24-month BSN program for May '08. I was told by someone that admissions notifications will be sent out anytime between mid-March and April 15th (which incidentally is not a whole lot of time considering one would start the program approximately one month later). Anyway, I know of one person who has already received their notification. I myself have not and am therefore getting more anxious as each day passes. I was hoping other people on this forum might be in the same boat as myself and can tell me whether or not they have heard anything from UNC? Thanks!
