I have been there too. I'm from another country, I worked 5 years in a Med-Surg Ward. The sad thing about it was I'm the oldest in that area and with the most experience, (due to the high turnover rates). I was tasked by my supervisor to teach new nurses, look over them, assist them but I didn't get paid for it. I worked 48+ hours per week with 2 days off. The doctors were rude, and the pay was 10x less in the US. I dreaded going to work, was grumpy, I even made excuses not to show up for work. I looked forward to vacation leaves. My boss told me that she's going to endorse me to replace her as the Supervisor when she leaves. It never happened, she's still working there. I went to the US, brought my whole family with me. I don't think you should hold on to what your boss said just because she said it. You can take some time off, then it will come to you. Good luck.
