Hi All, We are moving to Canada and only got our work permit approval last Friday. We have already resigned our jobs (both nurses) and our last working days next week. Wednesday last week we sent off our NMC renewal form(due end of May) and fees as we didn't expect our work permits to arrive last Friday hence my question if we can still cancel and claim a refund? Silverdragon thanks for your reply. I did read the CIC website and still a bit confused. Am I right in saying that we need to have separate applications and presumably it is same application form IMM 1295 for her as well for an open work permit? As the principal applicant, I'll include on my application form my dependants and please correct me if I am wrong that my wife shouldn't be in my own application form as she needs to fill in her own? This is the one that I am unsure about and confuses me. cheers

I've received my LMO today great news and very happy . It was four weeks since employment letter offered to me from my BC employer. I have experienced panic and excitement. Today estate agents going to value pur house and hoping to put in the market next week. I am about to fill in my work permit application and got a few queries for you guys: 1. My wife also a nurse just been waiting for her job offer as she's also been interviewed. Can I include her on my application together with my dependants or does she needs to wait for her job offer and LMO and then applied separately? 2. On the document checklist: Proof indicating you meet the requirements of the job being offered. Is it my offer of employment or my CRNBC initial registration? 3. When does the medicals take place on this process? Is it after the embassy received my application? I would appreciate all your replies. Many thanks.

We are planning of going there first, work for the 250hrs supervised practice and write the exams. The health authority that I've applied emailed me and said on average it will take about 6 months for the whole process to getting in Vancouver. We can't wait and we felt a sense of enthusiasm and excitement on the prospects of moving to Canada unlike how we felt now in UK depressed and bored.

Thanks Fiona. Do you know where would be an ideal family oriented neighbourhood around the area? How about schools, are there good reputable schools around as well? I'm sorry about all these questions as although we travelled a lot but never been in Canada yet. So it would be an interesting move for us and relish the challenge that lies ahead.

It's been a while that I have not posted back. Anyway, some updates we decided to go for mainland Vancouver. I have applied thru nursevancouver.com. Fraser Health seems to have a number of hospitals so put more emphasis on finding hospitals with them. Luckily I have been interviewed recently with the ICU manager in Burnaby Hospital and offered me a job. I have been trying to searched the hospital but there's not much information out there. Has anyone worked or have experience with Burnaby Hospital? What's the environment like working in this hospital? Do they have good schools nearby? (children 9&10) How much are the typical rental accomodation? and where would you suggest to safest place to live in this area? I would appreciate any reply and information you can share. $2400 fee is for my whole family. It is a big amount and we're just fortunate that we still have full time jobs. I've sat down and had a discussion with my wife and we decided that we'll pay for it and we'll just wait for our turn. My wife is also an NCLEX passer and would also love to work in America. For the meantime we have already started applying in Vancouver, BC and hoping to hear from our prospective employers soon.

I have just received an email from my immigration lawyer that my I140 has already been approved and checked also on USCIS website that an approval notice has been sent. My immigration lawyer has now asked me to pay for the legal fees to the amount of $2400 since I went thru direct hire so I need to shoulder the legal fees. I've started to doubt if ever we will be able to reach America especially with the economic crisis they have also experiencing. My wife (also a nurse) and I still desire to work in America but unsure if it will only now a "DREAM". Is it still worth paying my legal fees? Am I right in saying that once your I140 will be approved you are now officially under retrogression?

Canadian girl thank you so much for that very valuable information. I do believe that it's a beautiful place. I've spoken to employment adviser at VIHA and have sent my resume. I'm just hoping that I could get a phone call from them. But while waiting I'm also looking at other areas in Vancouver such as Vancouver coastal health authority and Fraser Health. Am I right in saying that their coverage is also south of Vancouver and near the coast as well? I would try to give them a ring as well and what job opportunities do they have.

I was trying to look for ICU jobs first thru that link and found out 3-4 full time positions that are mainly in city of Victoria. It looks like only few options to choose. A few positions are part time and casual. I am unsure as how big is the island and how many hospitals there is. Will do more research I guess.

Hi gals and guys, I have found out today from my CRNBC assessor that my application has been completed and that I am eligible to take CRNE exam but haven't received official documents from them yet. My wife and I are UK nurses and hoping to migrate to Canada. I am just starting to look for empoyers in BC. I am hoping that you guys might give me some tips in my decision where to look for a job in BC. We have 2 school age children 10 & 9 and hoping to find good schools in the place where we could find a job and family oriented environment. We have been living in the northeast of England a seaside town resort hence we would also prefer to live near the sea. We've been to Toronto but never been in Vancouver hence I'm hoping that you guys could give us some ideas and which potential employers that we need to approach. I would be grateful for all replies.

And also Molly these forums that gave you advise is a good stepping stone for passing your IELTS. I would suggest and advise post in proper grammar and sentence construction.:wink2:

Hi cher383, It is one of their requirements to be an RN in Texas. You just need to go thru CGFNS and apply online and it will tell you the requirements they'll need. And also having a CES is also an advantage as it is now one of the major requirement and widely accepted assessment in majority of the states if you wish to change your mind and work in another state. Secondly when the time you'll need to apply for your VSC you don't need to do it over again as CGFNS has already your file. Hope this helps.

I knew that most Filipino nurses would like to work abroad specially in the western countries such as US, Canada, UK, Ireland also Australia and New Zealand. I'm not not being disrespectful to countries in middle east and Southeast Asia but the countries I've mentioned above gave you equal opportunities and same salaries with their own citizens. I just want to hear any of your stories why you've given up your nursing jobs in these countries and now settling back in Philippines.

I hope you don't mind me joining in this very interesting discussion. I don't live in Canada but in UK. As Canada's healthcare system is closely patterned from UK I personally would say there are pros and cons in having a free healthcare. My own personal view is I would favor the American healthcare system or simply without leaving UK paying private medical care. My wife has a condtion called Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome or (simply irregular fast hearbeat). My wife is also a nurse and although has been asymptomatic had some few attacks while working and been in A&E needing treatment with various cardiac drugs. She has already been waiting for her appointment last year from her cardiologist for possible cardiac ablation but unfortunately has been cancelled 3 times. This is a very life threatening condition and without ablation she may suffer more serious attacks as this condition is very unpredictable. We would rather have it treated and sorted as soon as possible that's why we are considering private medical insurance or even going abroad to have it treated like many other Brits who goes to Asia to have their treatment done. I know that paying private medical insurance is very expensive in this country or in America but I would rather pay knowing that I could be seen immediately and treated. It could be cheap or free but it might be too late.

It was very clear on dranreb's post that he still don't know if he pass or fail. I don't disagree with most of what you said. I was only telling dranreb that I have received same message from ncsbn congratulating me for passing the NCLEX exam. I didn't say in any way that you'll receive an actual letter of confirmation from ncsbn that you've passed the nclex exam. In fact on your last reply you have recognized that ncsbn are doing it now which was contradicting to your other post that you said "NCSBN will never send you a letter or email that you've passed the NCLEX exam". I am only trying to clear things up as well.
