Should I take a job in Nursing home
I had 3 days orientation in an LTC setting too and it was a nightmare on my first day on my own. But I got through it just fine, after a couple of weeks bombarding my coworkers with lots of questions and getting to know the patients and their usual concerns. As an RN, there are times youre the only RN esp if youre on NOC shift. You can be the RN supervisor and have your own set of patients too. Here in Southern Cali, new grad RNs start at 24/hr.

advice on first time acute care travel experience please!
Wow! Thats what im worried about my SNF experience too...there's really more action going on in an acute care setting and to adjust from a sub to acute can be nervewracking. I would suggest for you to stick it out. A med surg experience will land you better opportunities in the future. If in doubt, always ask...it's hard to put your license at risk.

Leaving my LTC job
How long did you last? Haha! I was in the same position too and two weeks into it I was dreading every day I had to come to work..it was thaaat bad but lo and behold...I stuck it out and I was fine...I got used to all the issues around. I can name a few but you get the gist....there's too many to mention. I could have stayed longer of not for my high risk pregnancy but that would mean me putting my baby at risk too. It's not worth the trouble. I was on.mat leave for practically the whole pregnancy and after I gave birth I was already decided on not coming back. Just make sure you have other options before quitting. It's hard to find job nowadays. :-)

Dealing with well-meaning but stupid questions?
I took biology as my first course and back then people would say why not nursing? like if you don't make it to med school then you have a good career to fall back on? well...i didnt push through with a med degree and took nursing as my second course 6yrs later. Im an RN now and I have tons of friends who are doctora now but not once did I regret that I became a nurse instead. It's more of what you really want to become vs all these people who think they know better

No one wants to hire a entry level nurse in Nevada, what should I do?
Hi sheenmarie! I feel your pain! Here in cali, the minimum reqt is usually one yr to 2yrs acute experience. There are new grad programs but I believe you need to be a fresh grad or at least 1yr since you were in school to get in. Competition is very stiff so you really have to stand out. Im Ph educated too but passed my Nclex in 2010. I was able to work in a SNF for 6mos and had to quit when I had a highrisk pregnancy. I am worried the more I put on hold my nursing career the less chances I'll have to be able to get back. Just hang in there and maybe apply in non acute care while passing time. My 6mos working in snf was great but a tad stressful. 100+ patients for you if youre the RN supervisor! Whew!

The Medical City
I took the exam same day as yours, November 6. I haven't received any call or text. I tried to call them once and they can't say whether I passed or not. They just asked me to wait for their text. I am tempted to check with them personally. The wait is killing me..

Lung Center of the Philippines: Basic Skills Training
Minimum of 1. Maximum of 5. But in some 'benign' wards, you can have as much as 7patients. It's easy if you have all your patients in one room but more often than not, they're in several rooms. Each ward only has 2 or 3 sets of BP app,Stet and Pulse Ox, so you'd have to do your VS really fast if you don't want your groupmates to hate you for taking too long.

Lung Center of the Philippines: Basic Skills Training
The nice thing about LCP is that you are basically hands-on with the patients, you can do IV insertion, vital signs, meds, IV fluid regulation, cleaning the chest tube sites, changing CTT bottles, etc. Didactic part is mostly about Respiratory System :)

When will i practice my profession???
i've been asking myself the same question. it's been a year since I graduated and until now I haven't had any training/volunteer experience yet (on May I will be on BST)..then after that I'm thinking what's next. the cycle just goes on. maybe we need to think of productive things to do...work in a non-nursing field..just to 'kill time and pay bills'. these days, we have to be practical and worry less..we can't just sit in one corner and sulk. it's a good idea to fully equip ourselves so when opportunity knocks...we go marching in! keep the faith!
