  1. Someone mentioned about my hospital's policy regarding abusive surgeon, I did check on it through the hospital intranet and surprisingly found none...is this unusual for any hospital not to have a policy on how to deal with abusive surgeons? Or is it just my hospital? Thank you again.:loveya:
  2. Thank you for all the advice guys.....i'll try to stand up for myself and not let any surgeon abuse me again specially when I'm not getting all the support from people who should be supporting me. Thanks again.
  3. I'm presently working as an Operating Room Nurse ( scrub/ circulator ) in one of the best hospital in the country when it comes to heart and lung surgeries ( incl. transplants ). I can say that I am enjoying my work, and learning so much from it...to be honest i've got no background in this type of specialty coz i've been used to do General, Ob-Gyn, ENT, Ortho, just to name a few. It's been over a year now since I started. I'm now more settled assisting/ working with most of the surgeons except for one. Eversince I started, I haven't had a day with him that he hasn't shouted at me/ degrade me becoz of little things such as he has to wait for a minute or even just for seconds for a needle to be loaded to another needle holder, in cases like CABG where the smallest needle would be an 8/0 prolene; or like when his castro needle holder isn't holding properly, etc.... I'm now really ****** off with his attitude towards me, he doesn't show the same reaction whenever " white " people are scrubbed with him and getting delayed as same manner as i do.... Help !!! what am i suppose to do? My manager won't talk to him coz they also have a conflict. Should i answer back? what? pls help. Thank you Aquarius1
  4. Does anyone out there have an idea about the working condition of OR/Theatre nurses in New Mexico? salary? on-call pay? etc.... Hope you could help me with this? Many thanks......
  5. I don't take the patient's cover/gown until the surgeons are ready to prep...it's the least i can do in keeping the patient modest once inside theatre.....:nuke:
  6. Bad practise!!! Yes, it would increase the revenues but also the incident of infection, wrong site being operated on, or worst wrong patient!!! and for me it's taking the standard for patient's care to it's lowest level...
  7. I would have done the same thing....not leaving the room until everything's finish and besides the surgeon who would like to that case said he would wait, and yes, it's your license that's at stake. You just did the right thing. Reporting it to the head of the department....i guess better to let go unless they're making a big deal out of it and causing you a lot of hassle then Yes report it to your head. Goodluck
  8. dear flaerman, I can imagine how stressful you are right now...I don't know your faith but, whatever it is....just hold onto your faith...is being sure of things you hope for and being certain of things you cannot see. I'll be praying for you and your wife...God bless.
  9. After graduating from high school , I didn't know what to take up in college...my first choice was to take up mass communication majoring in journalism; and 2nd choice was to take up education but, my parents are so insistent to me to take up nursing for the reason that it is so in demand ( home and abroad ). Eventually I gave in to their request with fears and questions in my mind....what if I don't pass the exams, both practical, oral and written? What's going to happen if I see an actual delivery? What if I don't know how to administer an injection? etc.... I guess all those have already been answered. I am glad that I have followed my parents request coz I am happy with my chosen career, got the chance to travel abroad, help out my family ( financially ) backhome, and of course helping patients ( such a nice feeling when you have patients who got well, and you know that you're one of the people who looked after them during their stay )...it's such a rewarding job in all aspects :)
  10. hello dorselm, I can personally relate to your situation. Like you, I also find it hard to say NO, most of the time I would normally say Yes to this and Yes to that....coz I'd like to help and it gives me a good feeling. But lately, some people have taken advantage of my kindness and generosity, to the extent of making me feel as if they " own " me, as if I'm a robot under their control....so I thought why should I let these people continually treat me like this? I am a professional nurse, and I am where i am now not becoz of them nor their help but becoz I have studied and worked hard for this....I am no one's servant except for the patients.....since then I have learnt to say NO specially to people whom I know would only take advantage of it. Just say NO when you mean to say NO, it doesn't mean you're gonna be a nasty person, you're just being yourself and being wise. You can do it....
  11. i'd been studying for NCLEX since July but I feel I'm not that ready to take the exam yet.I don't know whether it's down to my lack of time to study,I was told that I have to spent at least 15 hrs. a week and to practice answering at least 300 questions in order to pass. But I'm finding it hard coz of my work...I do work in OR, doing a 10hr shift and doing on calls as well. Is there any advice you can share to make this studying/review a lot more easier? Any help would be highly appreciated. Many thanks. aquarius1
  12. Just like what Silverdragon 102 stated, that it depends in which country you would like to practice your profession. I think it would be better that while waiting for a placement abroad that you make use of the opportunity to gain experience there in the philippines, and when the time comes for you to go abroad, at least you're ready and prepared. Good luck...... aquarius1:)
