i was accepted at los angeles valley college for spring 2012! i am headed to the md tomorrow to get all the medical stuff started. i can't believe it! i am over the moon! best of luck to the rest of you! we have all worked so hard!!

I don't see how a nursing program would know about your hospital stay unless it involved a criminal record of some kind. They will do a background check but they will be looking for arrests, etc. What is more important is that you are mentally healthy and taking good care of yourself!

I called LA County today and they wouldn't tell me anything. They said letters would be out by the end of the month.

I called LA county today and they said they could not tell me what my status was and that the letters would go out by the end of November.....hmmmm. Doesn't make sense.

bluemanfb, which school are you going to accept? thanks for all the info. valley college was my home school so since i didn't get an e-mail from them, i guess i can assue i didn't get accepted. still trying to keep the faith! congrats to all of you!!

Still nothing in my mailbox. I guess I can assume that I didn't get into LA County since someone here already got a letter and my mailbox is empty. I am having a hard time keeping my hopes up.

Hello Spring hopefuls! I am in LA and applied to 6 local community colleges for Spring 2012. The wait is absolutely killing me. Every day when I open the mail box I get a twinge of anxiety....only to find nothing there. Anyone else out there in the LA area that has applied to local schools? Share your stories! I applied to: College of the Canyons-already got a denial from them Pasadena City College Glendale Community College LA County Los Angeles Community Collge LA Valley College Hopefully we hear something soon!!!

You are never too old! I am 36 (37 in November) have a BA in psychology and currently working 4 days per week as a social worker. I am married, have a husband, mortgage, almost 4 year old and preg with #2. I have been taking a night class each semester and still have 4 pre-reqs to go before I can apply. Take it one day at a time and somehow everything will fall into place. If it is meant to be, it will be. Look at it this way, you have until at least 67 to work to collect social security so even if you are finally an RN at 45, you have 22 years left to work! That is a long time. Take a deep breath and work on taking care of your family and doing your pre-reqs. You will get there :) Jen

Hi, I am currently taking some pre-reqs at Valley College. I used to work at Cedars-Sinai hospital in the city and we had a lot of nursing students from Valley. I really don't know enough about Antelope Valley to say but I hear Valley is a challenging program. How many times did you apply to Valley? Curious to know as I will be applying there myself. How was the TEAS and your GPA, etc. for entrance there? Best of luck on your decision. Either way, you have chosen a great career :) ~Jen

Hi! I am in a similar situation. I already have a BA in psych and am now working on the science pre-reqs for RN program and will apply to 4 or 5 local community colleges. It will take me a couple more semesters since I can only go at night and 1 class at a time. I am 36 and don't want to sit around for 2 years trying to get into an RN program and waist my science classes. Not to mention the fact that most CC's have time limits for these sciences. Yikes! I was thinking about the RT program as well. Just not as much opportunity as RN. I want to keep ALL of my options open. I know that healthcare is the field for me so I will get there someway/somehow. I am working on my pre-reqs now and won't be ready to apply to any programs for at least 2 years. I will be applying to 4 or 5 local community colleges and they all have entrance exams. One is TEAS and another is NLN, I think. My question is....once I take the TEAS for one school, can that test score be used for the other schools that require the same test or do I have to take the test at each school I am applying? I am still baffled about how difficult it seems to get into nursing programs when there is such a shortage and need for RN's. I am praying that this improves some by the time I am ready to apply. Has anyone heard anything about LA Valley College? That is where I am taking my pre-reqs. It is a tiny bit closer to my home than Glendale.

Can you tell me what the county program is that is mentioned in some of these messages? I am unfamiliar with this. Does PCC and GCC both require entrance exams? Thanks!

I am currently taking my pre-nursing prereqs. I already have a BA in human services which is essentially a BSW. I have 4 science classes left to go before I can start applying to any programs. I was going to go for the local community college RN programs but someone suggested that I consider a BSN program. Your thoughts?

How many tries did it take for you to get into both PCC and GCC? Can I ask what your GPA was and your entrance test experience? I am about 4 classes away from applying to both and would love your imput. Thanks in advance and congrats to you!

Hello everyone, I have read many places on the board that most of the CCs have a time frame that they will allow your science pre-reqs before they have to be retaken. 5 years for example. How about the schools that you will be applying to? Thanks!

Hi, We live in Burbank so you must be close. I am just beginning my pre-reqs but plan to apply to Glendale as well as Pasadena and Valley College. Did you only apply to Glendale? How was the entrance exam? I would appreciate any info you have on your experience so far. Thanks in advance! Jen

Hello all, I am going to be 36 soon and currently working as a social worker. I already have a degree but have always wanted to be a nurse. I am now working on my pre-reqs at a local community college but facing some serious challenges as far as getting into a program. Lottery system that is based on GPA and entrance test results....could be a 2-3 year wait to get in. Not to mention the fact that since I work during the day, have a 3 year old at home and a house to run, I can only take night classes. I am looking at 3 years of pre-reqs before I can even apply to an RN program. I have been thinking a lot about going for my LVN so that I can become a nurse sooner then continue to work on my pre-reqs at night and do an LVN to RN bridge program after that. My concern is finances. Are you able to make a decent living as an LVN? I appreciate any and all of your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance! Jen
