pls some one tell me what is the safest way to draw blood from PICC line. what should i use? thanks!
  2. how long does it take to find a place to work and move to canada as RN? I don't have work permit in Canada and therefore i would love to find a hospital to sponsor me before moving. thanks for your help.
  3. i recently had to do a minor surgury... no one explained to me what was going on or what i should take before or after surgury. i think they knew i was a nures.. so maybe they took if for granted thay i knew what to do! as a nurses i believe is very important to inform anyone for any medical treatment.. thanks God i knew what i was supposed to do and not to do... what if i didn't knew.... what if i tood ASA for days before the procedure... no one told me anything! that is bad!
  4. atlanta medical center starting salary 21/hr. well it is a teaching hospital and it is a place to get expireance but i don't like how things are done there. i don't think i know one nurse who is happy to come to work... Mmm the work is really too much and they are not computerized plus too much paper work bla bla bla... i don't think i would have worked there for more than 6 mon. anyways i got my experiance. as a new grad you'll get 12 weeks with your preceptor if you are lucky you'll get the exprianced nurse or you'll end up with someone who just wroked for a year... tell me about that a nurse who just worked for a year precepting was really bad; sometimes you know some stuff better........! anyways it is a nice place to get expreiance for a year or less other than that i would look for hospitals where nurses are recognized as nurses... man i didn't like that place!
  5. i'm new in nursing. they say i learn fast and i believe that i'm doing good in this very busy hospital where i'm working at; and i'm leaning a lot for that i like it. however i feel many times that i don't have time to be with my patients... i feel like i do many paper works... papaer works that they say to "cover yourself up"... i just don't like doing tons of paper works and maybe spend very few hours with pt. sometimes i don't even get the time to read their HP which i feel is so important for me. my friends told me to get my experiance and swithc to more less smaller hospital. i don't think i'll be happy to spend my days in small hospitals... i love the experiance but it is just to much to deal with too much work! yesterday on my day off i slept the whole day and night... this has never happened to me before. do you guys out there also feel like you are good in what you do ... you like to learn new things but you are not sure if nursing is for you because maybe you get too much to cover in one shift?
  6. thank you so much. i'll indeed will contact you in the future.
  7. i've always dreamed of going to columbia university. if there is anyone here that attended/attending columbia crna program i would love to hear about any advise you can give me so i can work on it to be accepted at columbia in few years; i hope . thanks a lot in advance!
  8. does anyone know when coumbia university will start their BSN-DNP for CRNA? is there any school that has BSN to doctrates path for CRNA?
  9. i don't know which hopital you work. i work in one big intercity hospital... nights are very busy,... very busy in my floor. yes, it is true nights can be less stressfull however please don't forget to concider not to follow the easy way but to go to a place where you can get lot from it. if you were in my hospital where the MD's and residents are always on the floor and where family hours are 24/7 there is no difference except you get few dollors more and have same experiance... some think that at night pts sleep so you have less to do.... not true , if they were going to sleep... they wouldn't be at the hospital the first place. haha

Can someone explain me what it really means when accuchecks are ordered ac & hs? it is simple but I never understand how this thing works....
  11. i have a friend from Brazil, who is here in the states now. Brazil is nice place but life is very different.... i don't think i would like to live there... there is very big difference between the rich and the poor... and people do get robed and some times the thifes comand the police... it can be a scary place indid it has the most beautiful beaches but it is defenatly not a place where i want my children to grow up. nursing is not that much paying there and nurses are not really respected... think and search before you make this big move... when there is a big gap in a country between the rich and the poor... there is always problem with security... you don't want to live in tiny houses with iron gates, do you?
  12. how long did you study for GRE? what study tips do you have? thanks.
  13. Do you know when and if this bill is going to be passed?
  14. good luck!!! you will do well. the exam was not that bad but read the questions... for me i had lots of psyc and ob ... i had few meds, 4 calc, and few peds and med/surg... i'm good in math so i was happy to see calc questions :) all in all there were like two questions that i didn't know at all. i was A student and got above 1000 for hesi and for 5 wks i study saunders book and i avoided to get stressed! the questions were nothing different from what we used to talk in class... just read the questions... you will do it!! GOOD LUCK!
  15. thanks! i passed :)!!!
  16. thanks so much i like what you said about those in nursing for 15 years( funny). i do really like to be the best that i can be... if you have tips to tell me about learning more things i'll be glad; thanks.
  17. What??? don't worry about your looks but do worry about nursing proffesion and making the best out of it. my clinical preceptor was maybe 4'8'' and she was not really what they call " good looking" however she is the smartest person i've ever seen.... i just can't say it well how the doctors,OT,PT,Rt, students.... and patients respect her... guess what--that is not because of her looks. she was a nurse!!!
  18. hey there! just want to know for how long is new grad considered new grad?
  19. i did take 'it' today got 75 questions, lots of psyc, lots of ob, some peds and med-surg, 4 calc and about 5 SATA.... i just think i'm too tired from now to wait......!!!! wish me GOOD LUCK PLEASE!!!
  20. i'm taking nclex-rn tmrw i've started studing 5 wks ago. i did all saunders questions and i get 85%-90% on average... hope that i'll be fine. i feel scared!! i'll stop to read today because i think i need to rest and may be have fun in the sun :) . wish me luck please???
  21. i've heard Grady to be the place to be if you want to get the best experiance...ofcourse there are places like Atlanta medical center, Emory, Pidmont and more. for new grad it is not easy to get ICU/ ER position fresh out of school( but it dependes..like where you went school and did your clinicals.....and more) if i were you i'll look to where i want to work and get nurse aide/extern position in that icu floor from NOW and do my applications for the RN position as early as Jan 09 (if you're gonna graduate in spring i mean :)) good luck and best wishes !

for those of you who have two jobs (12hr 3 shift both) how do you do it?? is it possible for one without family or other comitments?? i know it is not recomended but just need some ideas :)
  23. hesi is a requierment in my school. we need to get at least 900 on the exit to pass and we had three chances. for those who didn't pass they took it again after graduation.... i guess everbody passes at the end. without Hesi we knew from the start that we're not going to be able to sit for boards...we did study hard and worked hard during school and formost of us it was not bad... most of us used the Hesi NClex-rn book with the cd... great book with lots of information in about 400 pages.
