  1. Hiya, Sorry but I can't help you very much in what questions they may ask of you, I agree with Silverdragon in that they will probably ask you more along the lines of why you want to be a nurse, why this course and just get a general overview of you as a person and if you have a realistic view of what nursing is etc etc. I did an access course before my degree and I found it invaluable in helping me get through university as I had no idea how to study, write essays etc etc, it also gave me a basic insight into sociology which I had never studied and just generally gave me the confidence to believe that I could actually do a degree. I'm sure you will do fine in your interview and I hope that you'll find it as invaluable as I did.
  2. The salary might be roughly the same, but the cost of living in the UK is higher. I did the reverse, trained in the UK, moved to OZ for my first job.
  3. Sorry for these questions, this has probably been posted somewhere already, I've just been reading so much these past few days my heads in somewhat of a spin!
  4. I wouldn't think so as it was through a college of further education plus in a different county. I will contact them as well, see what they have to say. Just another question, do I ask the uni/college to send the transcripts to me and then I forward them together with the completed application to the CA BON? Or do they have to be sent directly from uni/college to the CA BON?
  5. Hiya, I've just been reading through the CA BON application for licensure by examination form and came across this paragraph. "Transcripts are required from all colleges and/or universities you attended that reflect courses required for a degree in nursing, including general education course requirements and all nursing courses. Transcripts must be received and evaluated by the Board prior to being found eligible for the NCLEX examination." I attended prior to commencing my degree an "Access to Higher Education (Nursing)" course for one year. So, according to the above statement I would have to get transcripts from that course too? Sorry for being dense but I just wanted to clarify so that I get it right the first time. Regards Rika
  6. Brighton Uni do seem to offer the course with both theory and practice based on what the individual needs. However, it states that it is done in collaboration with O'Grady Peyton, so I wonder if you have to sign with them to be able to do the course? Here are the links http://www.brighton.ac.uk/inam/courses/postreg/modules/descriptor/NW209.htm http://www.brighton.ac.uk/inam/courses/postreg/modules/descriptor/NW312.htm I am assuming you can post links??
  7. Hiya, Yes I am aware that I would need the practical as well and am trying to get some info from the uni about that too. I am not 100% sure if I am short on hours but I have had no documented practical experience as part of my course in any of the 3 branches, I had one day with a midwife as part of my community placement, I've dealt with patients with psychological problems as part of my med/surg placements and very occassionally looked after children. I had to do something called EU Directives in which I had to do some research/writing on the 3 branches. I am not sure if that qualifies. Also when I applied for my license here in OZ I noticed from my transcript that there was no mention of the EU directives or any hours related to that. I've emailed my uni, to warn them off my intentions with regards to my transcripts and the CA BON and I also enquired about my EU directives and hours etc. I've not had a reply as yet. Anyhow, I am planning to get the evaluation done by the CA BON first as then I'll know for sure what I'd need to do, if anything. I am researching some options in case I do need to make up hours so that I'll be prepared. Thanks for your thoughts, sorry about the long winded email! Its just nice to be able to sound off to people who are going through the process or have gone through it. Its such a big help!
  8. Hiya, I 've been lurking here a while, reading various threads on the forums. If only I had known about this site during my training I could have saved myself a lot of hassle!!! :angryfire Oh well... I am a UK trained RN specialising in Adult wanting to work in the US in a few years' time. From reading some of the info here I thought I'd get the process started now. I am wanting to work in California. Now my question is this, I am currently working in Australia and have found some courses that should address the deficiencies that I have from my training, namely Maternity, Paeds and Psych (that would be all then!). Anyhow, I have found a uni in Melbourne that does theory in all these branches, but that is done as a Distance Learning course. I wondered if anyone knew if this would be acceptable for the CA BON. I am going to email the BON with this query, but have heard that they may not respond, so thought I'd try my luck here too. Thanks Rika
  9. Hi, I'm coming to the end of my first six months, I will be moving onto neurosurgery next, I'm looking forward to that. I trained in the UK but came here for my first job and am loving it so far, it took a while to get used to the differences and I miss the UK a lot, but I don't regret choosing to work here. I agree when you say that you feel conscious that you may not probably live up to what you want to be, Dar15, I have those thoughts too. I have to remind myself that I'm only 6 months into my career, I expect a lot from myself, but as long as I keep striving to be the nurse that I see myself to be, then I am happy. And yes, I do love being able to put RN after my name!
  10. Great, I was going to say keep us posted but was in a haste to reply!:nuke:. I am also following some leads here in OZ, but that would mean distance learning and I"m not sure if that is sufficient.
  11. Aha, was looking for this thread as its the most promising lead for making up hours I've seen so far. Thanks Rika
