  1. Thanx for researchin that for me. I will look into vtag again next year before fall 2008 and see if it works for me then because by then i will have worked in va for a year.
  2. Nadia, thanks for ur reply. Do you have to have been a VA resident for some time to get that vtag thing? How would I go about asking about a minority scholarship? Do you know anyone who has qualified for that?
  3. Thanks, I'm not lookin' for a hand-out nor did I expect any minority scholarship that I might miraculously happen onto (since whites typically don't get those) to pay for anywhere close to 100% of my tuition/fees, but it would sure help
  4. Technically not working there yet, but I will be accepting a job in the next day or 2 in Med-Surg
  5. I concur with what the other posters on this thread have said...nothing you will learn in ur BSN program will help at all on the GRE. I just graduated BSN in May and I took the GRE in December and did just fine and got into grad school with it. So, review some stuff like some practice math questions and analogies for like 1 day before the GRE and then go in there and blow it out of the water! Good luck!
  6. Hey, as a new grad I would also be super-scared workin' with vents my first job out of school. Granted, I don't feel completely retarded, but put in an autonomous position as a real nurse I probably would...Good luck, you'll learn a lot!!
  7. I agree with part of what you are saying, but by the slim chance that I did get a minority scholarship especially at an all-black university, I know that there wouldn't be the chance that some under-priviledged student went without because they helped me out so in a sense I disagree. I'm not gonna explore this opportunity very deeply because I have too much pride, but I'm not exactly sittin here with a silver spoon in my mouth. I just graduated with a BSN in May, got married in June and moved away from home and am working on gettin' a part-time job since I'm gonna be a full-time MSN student so I would love a little help to take the edge off of the humongous student loans that I'm gonna be looking at whenever I graduate!
  8. Your message was a lot of help!! I just wanna get out there and work so I can work out all the bumps and curves cuz I know that its gonna be a challenge but I'm tired of thinkin/talkin about it!!!
  9. I have heard one of my friends that also just graduated in May with me talk about having a million diff. preceptors and how it sucked not just having one. I am fixin' to start a job in which the nurse manager told me that they try to keep u with one, no more than 2 preceptors during your orientation. I hope that it is not too much of a culture shock hitting the floor as a real nurse and not a student.
  10. I just got offered a job (in virginia) as a new grad BSN on nights part-time approx 24 hrs. a week. So I would say there are situations out there like you're wantin' ...it seems like not as many ppl wanna work nights so it should technically be easier to find...maybe?
  11. Yea, but I don't know how to go about it, because I feel awkward going up to the Financial Aid office counselors who are predominantly black and asking them if I could get a minority scholarship?!?! I am not racist by any means, obviously I am going to a school where I am the minority, but if I can get some financial help payin' for grad school then u can bet I'll take it! Are you in a MSN program? Where r u from?
  12. I am a BSN new grad and was recently accepted into Hampton University in Hampton, VA for their MSN/FNP program. I have been told by some locals of this area (I am new from Arkansas) that since HU is a traditionally all-black university founded by Booker T. Washington that I would be the ethnic minority (being white) and could qualify for a minority scholarship. Does anyone know anything about this?

  14. I was reading this thread because it pertained to HU and I am accepted into their MSN/FNP program to start this Fall. Do you know anything about their graduate nursing program?
