Want to be a nurse, past in school not great
I am in the same predicament myself, but my local cc offers an "Academic Fresh Start." This is a program for people who have been separated from a college or university for 4 or more years......when you enroll and complete 15 credit hours with the required GPA (my cc requires 2.0) then they will wipe your past mistakes off your record and your future GPA will solely be based on you grades from the time of your Fresh Start and forward....you may wnat to check and see if your cc has this program and also in Tennessee we have many colleges and universities involved in what we call the "Tennessee Board of Regents" and all the schools in this program recognize the Academic Fresh Start, so when I get my pre-reqs out of the way at my cc, I can then transfer to a TBR school to finish my BSN.....good luck, I am sure you will do fine!

Jackson State Comm. College
Hi...I am pretty new to the forum, but have already learned so much....I am just starting pre-reqs this fall at Jackson State Community College in Tennessee.....I am so nervous about starting from scratch at the age of 29, but I am also very excited!!!! I have attended college before, but was too young and dumb to finish....I guess I always thought I could do it later in life..guess I was right, ha ha!!! So since I made mistakes in my past college experience, I have applied for the academic fresh start program, where after completing 15 semester hours with a GPA 2.0 or above, my old crappy grades will be expunged.....I am attending full time this fall with 16 hours and I am going to start applying to the nursing program this spring for the Fall '08 term........I am so scared about not getting accepted, I just want this so bad, but I guess if I don't I will finish other pre-reqs for my BSN and by the time I get those all in, and if still not accepted to the JSCC nursing program, I will begin applying to private universities......has anyone on here applied to the JSCC program or attending? If so, how many times did you have to apply? Thanks!!!

No money for school, as my family fell apart
Sorry to hear about all of the stress that has fell upon your family.....have you filed your free application for federal student aid? If so, you should check into applying for a Federal Stafford Loan....these loans are from the federal government and do not require a credit check, nor are they based on income...there are 2 kinds of stafford loans...subsidized and unsubsidized....one you pay the interest incurred while in school and the other you do not pay a cent until 6 months after you graduate......there is also the Federal Perkins Loan......check into these before you give up on your dreams....and yes there are work-study programs at alot of schools.....community colleges and technological centers.....Good Luck!
