Hey all: So I apply daily and get turned down daily. It is now become my job, "looking and getting turned down". At this point I don't get excited when I go for an interview. There is so much competition out there, its amazing that anyone has the ability to feed him or herself. I keep hearing there is a nursing shortage, but I dont see many of us being hired. I transferred from NY to CT and find CT extremely picky, but yet when I visit a Dr's office, Im not too happy with the service. I had to change physician's several times due to the lack of knowledge of the staff, mostly the staff consists of Medical Assistants. Don't get me wrong, some people are very knowledgeable, but so many are not. I finally have a job, but it's on call at a Rehabilitation facility. I am still looking for either a full time part time or a full time full time. As I continue to go to school, I have now taken a medical billing class to add to my resume. How is it going for most of you out there? Are you happy as a LPN? Are you working and are your conditions nice? I worked for a Dermatologist in Danbury and found that physician in that group to be very rude, abusive and harassing. So yes, I don't work there anymore. Apparently, he was smacking the staff, when he didnt like what they were doing or how they were doing it. Now, please tell me why people, (nurses) will allow someone to hit them? to keep the job? Im sorry, no one will hit me or scream at me on the top of their lungs because the wrong diagnoses was prompted, (when it can be changed). Im just amazed at this type of bullying behavior and we, (nurses) allow it to go on. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!! Hope you all have a great day!!

HI, well, I guess you all have a handle on the physician, but still, it's not right. You are part of a team and you are working very hard to help his practice, right? It's just a shame where medical help has gone these days. I am really floored on how the physician's think they are above all of us (non physician's) and get away with it. I hope your day is wonderful and it's nice talking to you!!

I haven't work in a prison, but I have a RN friend who seems to love the job. One thing is for sure, the inmates are total con artists. I have been around drug addicts in my life and they are true con's. You, yourself, must be strong minded, strong willed, and not take any nonsense from anyone. If you can not deal with a con, you should not be part of this system. If you are weak, they will see right through you and you don't stand a chance. Also, you need to watch the guards. They are living this life style day in and day out, they too are good cons. I know a few Corrections officers and most of them have affairs with the nurses, so be on your guard for that. I wouldn't do this job for all the money in the world. There is no way I want to be locked in with any of them. This is a depressing life style and job for me, so personally, I have to say to you to be extra careful and learn some great self defense classes. And or take some martial arts classes to learn to defend yourself in a serious situation that you are not used to. I want to wish you some luck, success and hope you are prepared for this job. If at any time you feel threaten, you should find another job. GOOD LUCK

Hello: So I'd like to hear about your experiences with either the bully physician or the bully nurse and/or staff members you have come across in your field. In my experience some places and or the management accepts the mean physician more than the mean nurse. I find the more professional medical groups have a policy & procedure that protects workers from these mean individuals. I have recently been a victim of a screaming Dermatologist in CT. I stood up for myself and let management know I was not going to allow anyone to scream at me. It is unacceptable to treat anyone, especially a new staff member, which I was, when talking is more effective. The answer I was given surprised me, and I quote verbatim, "He is the Doctor!" Well, yes, you guessed it, I was then let go, but mind you, a week later. Apparently, I was useful enough to complete my week with the surgeon until they either replaced me or have already hired someone to replace me, but needed that one more week. I was approached by several nurses and medical assistants who informed me this physician not only has a bad temper, but used to smack the hands of those assisting him if he was unhappy with them or their approach in assisting. This has been going on for many years. It is quite disturbing to know this type of behavior is accepted by anyone. No one has the right to intimidate you, badger you, harass you, harm you, hit you, talk down to you or simply treat you like the unwanted trash. Another new female employee has just expressed this physician being very blunt and she too is unhappy with this behavior. When I was hired I was told two other people had just quit. I tried to inquire about the reason, but was told she was unsure of the reason. I did also witness some abrupt and dismissing behavior from another physician in this practice towards a patient. A backlash word or two directed at me, which completely through me for a loop, as I was under the impression this physician is an intelligent, professional individual with much more class than most of the collegians in the office. There is another physician in that office who is truly amazing. The personality, body language, smile he/she possess on the face and the full schedule of this physician, week after week. This physician truly enjoys being a physician and word of mouth travels. Most people wait months to see this physician, but if need be, will see another in the group; as I have been told, not happy to see anyone else, but will put up with it. I would like to hear back from anyone with a story to share, especially if you stood up for yourself and if you were fired over it. I know there are attorney's willing to take a case like this. If you have an attorney in the Connecticut area, I'd appreciate to have all the information. Thank you and I hope your day is going well. I know you all work very hard and most of your are not recognized for your hard work. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it or not.

I am having a hard time finding a job that welcome's LPN's. I have tried every single nursing home in the area and every single office/hospital that employs LPN's, but nothing.. So of course I took this job, but I am the only LPN, all the rest are MA's. Its just a shame is all. Thanks for the comment

So someone help me understand. Medical assistant's are being used throughout the State of CT, and are being utilized as much as possible to the point where the physician's can be fined. My understanding a medical assistant can not draw up any injections, nor give them, nor can they administer any medication, can not diagnose. I see medical assistant's in every office doing various duties. In some cases they are also administering the injections. So who is monitoring these physician offices? So now the LPN is being phased out which is just terrible. I am forced now to go to school and make sure I get my RN in order to keep working. I understand the physician's and the hospital want to save money pay the lower man on the totem pole, but guess what, you can't have those unlicensed people doing things that can cost the physician his practice. I'd like to know if anyone of you are not finding good jobs because of this reason. Love to hear your stories... I hope all of you are doing well and are in jobs you enjoy.... Peace.... Jo

That is terrible! So sorry. I actually quit a job where I had to take care of 40 patients. It's NOT SAFE! and I will not be part of it. I now work in a Dr's office for a great group!... Keep looking for the perfect job for you! Good luck!

HI.. I now live up in Dutchess county. I used to live in Queens. Matter of fact, I was just there, my father lives there. I heard about the hospital closing, such a shame. I am going to move forward and get the RN. It will take me a little while as I have to go part time. PA can't get enough LPN's and FL as well. I hate FL, wouldn't live there if you paid the rent. lol. PA is an option, but not at this time.

Well, I am frustrated when I hear there is a nursing shortage. I have been looking for a job in my county since I graduated in June 2008. I do have a job... but it is in another county. I have to drive 48 minutes, no rain, no traffic, no ice, no storm in order to get to work. I am dying to work in the hospital, but the state of NEW YORK is not hiring the LPN. There is one hospital and I did apply.... and of course, they will see if I am a good fit and contact me, if not, they will keep me on file. NOW, what do they mean good fit????? They haven't even interviewed me yet to see where I'd fit in. Which brings me to the topic: The nursing shortage is only in regards to the RN. So now i have to try to get the RN in order to have a job I really want OR I have to move to PA, CT, VA, FL or CA in order to get a LPN job in the hospital. Is there anyone else experiencing this problem in the state of NY?????? Most of the employers I send to don't even answer me. AND the one that did recently says they will only pay $16.00 to $17.00 in a DR's office.... What is up with this?? I'd love to hear your stories...

I am a new nurse and just found out if you call out due to the weather, they will not pay you. The facility will have the maintenance man come pick you up if you live locally. But if you work the night shift and he picked you up, you will have to find a ride home. Luckily for me, my daughter lives 6 blocks away and I just stay at her house. I think it's always a good idea to pick a facility to work at where you have thought about all aspects, including the weather. That is what I did.

Hi thanks guys: But as I am learning, the only way to do this job is CUT CORNERS. There is NO possible way I can do all that is expected of me in only 8 hours. NO WAY and if so, I need someone to show me how to do all those things. It is somewhat overwhelming. I am considering getting a job in a Doctor's office. Maybe when I was 25 I could have done this job without difficulty. I have had a hip replacement 2 years ago and standing on my feet for 12 hours or more is really killing me. At first I was so excited to go to work, now I just dread it. Isn't that awful. My fingers are so dry and peeling, they are just disgusting, plus they hurt from popping the pills out of the pack. I don't know what else to do. I give you all so much credit for working all those hours and not getting a decent break. When I was younger, I worked as a waitress, but there were many days I worked double and triple shifts. At that time I could handle it.. not so sure now. You guys have a great day. I have to get mentally ready to work tonight.

Yeah.. isn't it the worst field you have ever entered? I am shocked at all the nonsense going on in all facilities. I blame the facility for allowing this nonsense to take place. Sorry for your trouble. I have some great CNA's on my time and I love them. It's sometimes the floats that think they can be nasty and don't have to do a great job cause it's not their regular floor. I am almost ready to give up this LPN thing. Some people are wonderful and some people need to be fired! Good luck to you
