ANP Outlook
Hi, I am currently looking to apply to several Adult NP programs but have been reading that the job outlook might not be good. Any new grads having problems finding jobs? Is the program worth it? For those of you that have found jobs, are you happy with your decision?

OCN Exam ?'s
Hey! Here's a link to Amazon where you can purchase the core curriculum + study guide + another study guide for a lower price. Make sure your nurse educator does not already have this as sometimes you can borrow the study materials :) Kavi http://www.amazon.com/Study-Guide-Curriculum-Oncology-Nursing/dp/0721603599/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259853969&sr=8-2

OCN Exam ?'s
Hey there. I just took the exam last week and passed! I took about 3 months to study first by reading the core curriculum book one chapter at a time and then by following up with the study guide questions. As i went along in the book i would take notes. If you study the book and do the study guide questions you should be fine. There is also another book called Oncology Nursing Review (Jones and Bartlett Series in Oncology). It has tons of questions and i used the 3rd edition but there is a 4th one out just recently. I made copies of the answers from all the chapters and then put them aside. I went through all the questions and then referred to the answers and made notes and highlighted important points. This way i wasnt wasting time typing all those questions and answers. I did do that with the ONS study guide :) Sounds like a lot of work but it did work for me. My nursing manager was also kind enough to give me time off to study for the exam. Good luck and just do as many questions as you can.

Do any fem. nurses here have Stay at Home husbands/SOs ?
I am going through a similar situation even though i dont have any kids yet. We have been married for almost a year and i would like to start having kids by the end of this year (im 31). My job is wonderful and i dont mind working the extra shift to make things a little easy on the financial front. My husband is working right now but has agreed to stay home and raise our kids. Boy did this cause some talk among my family and friends! Why did we even have womans lib if we didnt want to share all the responsibilities? I dont see anything wrong with the wife being the breadwinner, i think it makes perfect sense. My husband is caring and wonderful and will be an amazing father. Thanks to this post im feeling a lot better. Im going to do whats right for my family, never listened to society so why start now? I love this website :)

HELP!!! New Grad thinking about Oncology
Oncology is a great field to work in. You will face and accomplish many difficult tasks which will prepare you for graduate studies. I myself do not have a masters but many nurses on my unit have gone and received their masters. Good luck to you!

Questions about Hopkins
Hi, the last thing i heard about Hopkins is that they have a hiring freeze in many departments. New grads are having a hard time finding jobs (i know people graduating from hopkins this year). I agree with people on this board that you should contact people in departments and find out whos hiring. Good luck to you.

Should i leave Maryland and move to Boston?
PS. Moving down here is an excellent idea! The weather is great and the cost of living is definately cheaper. I originally moved down here from NYC and am paying just 800 for a hugh 1BR in Baltimore. Hopkins would be a great place to work for..

Should i leave Maryland and move to Boston?
Thanks so much for all the replies! Is it possible to live outside of Boston and commute to work? Dont know how easy this will be. Any suggestions of good places to live that is not as expensive as boston but easy to commute from? I wish my husband could realize how expensive moving is going to be...

Interview with JHH Any tips
I work on an oncology unit and started as a new grad. The pay is in the early 50K's and the pt ratio on my floor is 1:3. Can i ask why youre moving from Boston to JHH? My husband wants to move to Boston but i love my job at Hopkins.

Should i leave Maryland and move to Boston?
I work as a BSN educated RN at a prestigious academic hospital in Baltimore as an oncology nurse. Its the perfect job, the nurse-pt ratio is 1:3 at the most. The nurses i work with are awesome and my nurse manager is great. I dont work too many nights even though my job description says rotational. The reason why im saying all of this is because its the perfect job but its in Baltimore and my husband hates it here. He moved to Boston when he was a teen and all of his friends are there. Basically i am supposed to give up the job i love and move to Boston where i dont think i can even get a job from all of the many posts that i have read. So is it really that hard to get a job in Boston as an experienced RN and i mean 1+ yr folks. Is it worth moving from Baltimore to Boston where the cost of living is expensive? Is the market going to get any better after the Safety Bill for RNs was passed recently? So many questions. I just need some good points for and against moving to bring up to my husband. I love him and hes miserable here but i dont want to go into financial ruin moving to Boston and not getting a job. Please help.

265 questions on nclex bad or good?
Hey Kristylayne, Dont be too hard on yourself. I felt the exact same way. When the number turned 76 i was in a state of shock and it got worse as the numbers increased. I could feel my mind giving out and convinced my self that i had failed and just wanted to go home. But i said a little prayer and chugged along. I started to tear as i came out of the testing place and the procter looked up at me and could see i was upset. He said to me "Are you in charge of your life?" Im thinking what? He says to me " God is in charge of your life and do you think God would want anything evil to happen to you?" That made me smile but i still cried all the way home and called my mom to tell her i failed. After two heart renching days of waiting and praying i saw the pearsons quick results that i had passed!!! Now dont think im a religion nut cause im not but i have faith that you will do fine. Just keep on praying, God saw all the hard work and effort you put into studying and wont let you down. Keep us posted :)
