  1. I am a bit confused as to why someone would want to go through the painfull process UBC has adopted for their admissions to the BSN program? As I have a bit of experience in the health care field I chose the 4 year program at a college versus the labotomizing process of UBC and their painfully large class sizes, not to mention the higher tuition. One thing those of you might want to consider is if you get into the accelerated 2 year program when you go into a hospital YOU are now a 3rd year nursing student and expected to perform as one. Just food for thought. Have a great summer...
  2. Where are you going to school? Who has time for work? I hardly have time for sleep, let alone work....Must be a light course load or a very forgiving employer...
  3. I need to wade in on this topic....I just turned forty and let me tell you I have a significant advantage over the "twenty somethings" in my class. We have just finished semester 2 and our first clinical rotation of the Bsn program and the advantages I have are clear. First I know what it is like to work!! and I know what a 12 hour shift feels like, how to cope with the 3:30 am crash.. If you stay healthy and use common sense you will avoid injury within the workplace. I only plan on working another 10-15 years after grad, unless a nice cushy community nursing position or a Critical Care Transport position in the States wants a casual. Stay healthy, mind and body. 6 semesters to go....ugh
  4. Hmmm having worked in the EMS field here in Vancouver I must say that the nurses I have spoken with that went to UBC and SFU as opposed to BCIT, Kwantlan or some other "community college" have the following to say: "The only difference is my student loan is double". So if that is what you define as using a 4.0gpa have at her. Just to let you know that BCIT is the ONLY college to offer the emerg. course and it is recognised internationally as one of the premier emerg. courses. Enjoy UBC if you can get in and like HUGE classs sizes. Your information about the "community college's" is incorrect with respect to the enrollment requirements. Douglas is done on a best marks basis not "first come first serve" like you have been led to believe. Might be a good idea to do your homework. Good Luck 4.0
  5. UBC is a well respected school in all academics. Why not look at your first 2 years at a college to cut costs then transfer into UBC if that is where yoy want your degree from? According to a friend of mine in the US ANY of the BC nursing schools have a great reputation. Douglas, BCIT, Kwantlan, Cap. College, ect. Good luck
  6. Vancouver, BC BsN program at Douglas in Sept/07 15 years as a Paramedic Hope it helps:uhoh3:
