I love Saskatchewan as my mother's family is there, she was born there, but I doubt I'd ever get my spouse to move there, as his industry isn't big there at all. I'm happy it's booming there too, Saskatchewan deserves that kind of action!

Aha, I found them, but it wasn't clear from the website if they offered LPN, or just some courses to those with LPN status already. I haven't found anything from other provinces, but I don't really want to do it in Quebec anyhow, as it'll be French. I'm trying to get out of Quebec.

I am under the impression that anyone with a license to practice in the province of Quebec has to pass a French test.

I can tell you that, yes it is very culturally diverse, especially around McGill. It's a great atmosphere, I'm sure you will enjoy it, if you already know a little about it. Don't worry much about the French if you're planning on staying in the McGill area and not working there after. You'll pick up survival French fast enough. Unfortunately the rents have doubled, maybe tripled in the last ten years, but if you're willing to share a small space, you can find an interesting place to stay.

I was excited to find an online LPN program through Alberta's Norquest College. This gives me hope that I can pursue the career and work at the same time, taking time off for the practicals. However, they charge double the price for out of province students which would include me. Does anyone know of another LPN online program? Oh please tell me you do. I live in Montreal and work days.

Thanks so much to all for your input & encouragement. I'd like to respond to the person who asked why I'd quit teaching. It's really not for me. I'm not a performer, I'm not into being the center of attention, and the the pay and hours are good, I'm burning out from understimulation and being in the wrong profession surrounded by the wrong people. I'm out of place.

Is anyone up to date about how the RN status is going to require a Bachelor's degree instead of college diploma from now on? What happens to people that get an RN college diploma just before that change? I'm asking because I'd like to get an RN college diploma, but not a B.N.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to move, as an RN, from province to province, for example from Quebec to Ontario or Quebec to Alberta or BC? By this I mean to refer to difficulties in licensing and job finding. Thanks.

Someone asked what I do now. I am in teaching. Most nurses think right away - oh, good vacations, less stress... Teaching is very stressful, oh yes, we get things thrown at us, attacked, weapons is nothing new, and if you don't like entertaining a crowd, it's nasty work. I dare anyone to try it out if you think it's a paradise of holidays.

I'm considering a career change to nursing, and would like to know some of what you think are mistaken reasons people might get into the field. I guess the strongest motivators for me to enter would be because I think the medical field is interesting, and also because I need something I may be able to move around with, as my spouse's positions are such. Oh, also, because I'm not good at sitting still, I want a career that involves movement, as opposed to office, for ex. So am I wrong to think it could be a match for these reasons? Or am I a fool... Thanks.

Can anyone comment on what it may be like to enter the domain of nursing in one's very late 30's/early 40's? I am considering a career transition from teaching into nursing and am already hitting 37. Further, would it make a diff regarding age & the type of training? Thanks in advance for any comments.
