Filipino midwife works as nurse in the Phillipines, Can she work in US as Nurse
I am trying to help a friend find out how a Filipino nurse midwife can get a job in the USA. She has a neice in the Phillipines who has a nurse midwife degree which is a 3 year program in the Phillipines. Does anybody know if she can work as a nurse in the USA if she is eligible to take the NCLEX.

ECPI versus Wake Tech, DTCC, Wilson, or Barton
I was a second degree nursing student and I found that going to get the BSN was probably the best way to go. I applied to DTCC and was put on a waiting list. If I had waited for my name to come up, I would still be in nursing school, I was accepted to start nursing school at DTCC for the Fall of 2006. I was a senior in the fall of 2006 and I graduated May 2007. I suggest applying to a BSN program because you will spend the same amount of time getting the ADN. I graduated from a BSN program which took the same amount of time to complete if I had done the ADN program.

New grad taking on PRN assignment at nursing home on 3rd shift
Hi Everyone, I just wanted to update everybody about my LTC experience. I was given a short orientation of the unit mostly to get familiar with where everything was located on the unit. The supervisor was really nice. She was very helpful, she told me exactly what I needed to do and what was expected from 3rd shift as far as what to document. The system this nursing home used consisted of weekly skin assessment on patients on different days. I only had 4 patients that i needed to do a skin assessment on, I have 3 patients that needed weekly notes and one incident report because a patient got out of bed and needed assistance with getting back into bed. I took the patient vital signs and recorded them on the incident report and in the nurses notes. I also did an assessment on the patient stating subjective and objective information about what I observe and what the patient stated. I had 9 glucose checks and 3 people to give insulin too. I checked the insulin dose with the other nurse before administering it because I know this is what I was taught in nursing school. I also did chart checks and entered new orders into the MAR. I had done this before during my preceptorship in the hospital so I was familiar with chart checks and new orders forms. At about 530 I started my med pass and completed it by 645. I had to get help with my glucose checks because I should have been doing them as I was passing meds. I will do this next time for sure. I can see where that would have help me time wise. Around 700, I was ready to count my narcotics with the 1st shift nurse. I only gave 2 hydrocodone on the shift so the count was accurate. We counted the drugs together and the count was accurate. All in all my night was very busy. I had one tube feeding and the nurse helped me make sure I had done this correctly. I had administered tube feedings before during my clinical rotation my times so I just needed to be familiar with the pump mechanics which was pretty easy. Well, based upon my experience i don't know if I would recommend this to a new nurse unless they were really eager to learn and the facility was well staff. This facility was well staff last night. I am scheduled to work on Saturday on the same hall and I will be working with some of the same people. The CNAs were very good and very knowledgeable about each patient. Thanks for all the advice, it was really helpful and I was happy that I received so many responses that really help me get through this night.

THanks, I believe I can handle that. I like to stay busy so this might work out good for me.

New grad taking on PRN assignment at nursing home on 3rd shift
This is my dilemma. I wanted to work extra hours at a nursing home. While preparing to work in a hospital setting. I am interested in working in a long term care facility as a parttime job. What I want to know is what job duties can I expect to do on my assignment. The people at the agency said that I would pass meds, document on the MAR, and maybe some assessment documentation. I need to know if this is the only thing I can expect to do on this assignment. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Kaplan Srategies, does it work? Help!!
I used Kaplan Q trainer to get used to an NCLEX style test. It is very similar that's why I am recommending Kaplan. Also, I felt the questions on the NCLEX may have been easier than Kaplan. So that's another good reason to use it. I passed with 140+.

After taking this much anticipated test, I am just like what happen. My plan was to go in there and get 75 questions. Instead I ended up with almost twice that number. I was not nervous and I did not think the test was that bad. I just hope and pray I passed. THe count down begins.

Kaplan and the magic 65%...Is it necessary to test?
I am taking the NCLEXRN on 7/17/2007. I took the Kaplan course and have been getting around 60% consistently. I was in the passing zone for the Readiness test offered by Kaplan. I was concerned that I was not making the 65% but I was told by the Kaplan Instructor that if you are consistently making 50% or better on the Question trainer you are ready to test for the NCLEX. This Kaplan instructor also taught at a nursing school that had a 100% pass rate and she said thats what she tells her students. Good Luck!

7/17 my big day
Hi Everyone, I am also taking NCLEXRN on 7/17/07. I am still feeling confident and positive so far because I know this is a big part of taking this test. I have been studying Saunders and Kaplan so I feel these two study resources are going to take me over to the passing range. My advice to recent RN grad is to stay positive, focused, and breath slowly and deeply when you feel an anxiety attack coming on. This will be my approach when I am sitting in front of the computer taking my NCLEX exam. Good Luck! Say a prayer before you take the test and do your best. Happy to be in this challenging field of Nursing

Thank you so much for that. I was a concerned because I heard it from a mentor. I don't believe in URBAN legends but this concerned me because it came from somebody that I trust.
