  1. What about a week-end programme some distance away and negotiate, maybe you can stay over the week-end and get compensated traveling.
  2. What's wrong with women who has beards?
  3. Good for you!
  4. Stick with it! It will reward you in the end and for the rest of your life. Their really is no better job and I've tried a few. Just do not get embroiled in the pettiness, stay aloof and have an outside life.
  5. Well said, you should be writing for a living. Unfortunately I became jaded with the bitchiness. I simply expected more from obviously intelligent people however the fundamental nature of people and women in general seemed to short circuit their common sense when dealing with their own. Sometimes this forum emphasizes my assessment of nurses, it can be so judgmental. I expected with compassion being hopefully our primary asset, we would be able to be less so. I fortunately have been able to invent a few things and dabble in a few businesses which pays my bills, yet I remain in nursing occasionally to keep my lic. current and keep grounded. I myself have almost despaired of humanity and will soon retreat to a farm in Colorado, I do not have the energy nor inclination to comprehend others anymore. People are simply too selfish and greedy. What I love about nursing however is the frequency of finding a jewel of a person amongst the muck. Someone who talks the talk and walks the walk. They feed my soul and I can recharge my batteries. On BBC America last night we Americans are regarded as the worst nation in the developed world, why, because our representatives, are our elected officials, which if greed were a religion, they would be gods! They murder, lie, cheat, steal and never accept responsibility and what's worse we support them in the name of PATRIOTISM! We pollute and abuse the planet more than others yet we blame China, India,Brazil and others. We use most of the lumbar, cutting the rain forests for our selfish luxuries and set limits on other countries. I love this country because it's the best that's ever existed yet we deny a few mexicans, this country is their's if you want my opinion. Weren't they here 1st? until we drove them out of Texas,California,New Mexico,Arizona, etc. I just expect more from nurses. We are as bright as any of the Dr.s I've worked with yet we demean ourselves with pettiness and jealousies and we can do so much better. Sorry for the ramble!
  6. You seem insightful and well educated, my insight is that it is just a job that allows me such freedom and reasonable income to do the things that make happy and also the amusement of watching the "wranglings" of so many other nurses with their egos and power struggles. Sorry! But sometimes other people just want to be unhappy and will look a gift horse in the mouth.
  7. When you are right you are right!
  8. I think if you allow nursing to simply just be a job and not a life choice and use it for income, to further satisfy and make you life good, always knowing that if I wanted a change, it would be so easy, or if I wanted to move or travel, no other job may be as easy to do so. Don't let nursing fulfill your life use it to achieve the fulfillment.
  9. I think you will find America unlike other developed countries have schedules that are generally prompted by MONEY!, fear of being sued (vaccines are a pre-emtive strike solution), big business dictating, laws dictated with little thought for effect, following protocol with little research and not wanting the ridicule associated with taking a stand or being different. How else can we account for our differences from the rest of the world ( which is clearly media and Hollywood driven) which seems to me anyway, so obvious and destructive. I will take flak for this reply because it seems our patriotism supersedes our sense of decency and good sense. No one ever takes the time to contemplate what is being said only that their point of view must be heard. I mean where else can we have the things that take place here, polygamy, Kansas education board, WMD's, just look at the news. I think you are right to question what's occuring and even if you are maybe wrong, at least you are informed and making an effort and not simply following the herd. Kudos to you!
  10. Why not per diem at several places allowing you to make up your required shifts and it also allows you to work the hrs. you want. Also nurse agencies in the area.
  11. Imagine if you wanted to travel anywhere in the world, with this profession it's possible and more easily than others, re. transferring qualifications. It generally includes housing etc. Also the diversity is amazing. Think of how many specialties that are available and to work them usually involves very little effort, unlike most other professions.
  12. Like anything in life, it will be problematic however with the right perspective and knowing what a terrific job it can be, you might be able to overlook some of these hindrances.
