California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
Not so good news. I feel like the not hiring places should be posted in here as well. I talked to Kaiser Oakland Medical Center and was told that they will not have a winter new grad program for January 2010. Sucks On the other hand ST BERNARDINE MEDICAL CENTER has an opening for a CLINICAL NURSE I in Emergency http://www.chwcareers.org/JobSearchCHW.aspx

New grads that got jobs
Dear new grads, First of all, congratulations for getting a job. It seems that very few of us in Northern CA got hired into hospital positions. Please help those who are still trying to get in. Please post your job search experience: How long you’ve been out of school? Where did you get hired? Whether you did your preceptorship in that facility? Or if knew someone who was working there? Please give us any tips you felt that helped you in finding that job or getting successfully through the interview. Also, suggestions about resume and cover letters will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time :heartbeat

Frustrated New Grad
I am ready to scream. I finally landed an interview with an rural hospital, in their ED... The hospital is in a middle of nowhere. Did great. Both women who interviewed me decided right away that they wanted me. I was told by the HR that I am getting an offer letter and they are working on it. They said that it will be ready within one week. Today is one week since the interview. I am getting a phone call from the recruiting agency that I was going through, that the hospital can't give me the offer letter because I don't have experience. I have to go through a new grad program that is starting in January. They knew that I had experience only as an RN intern before the interview and everyone (including the recruiting agency and the women who interviewed me) were positive that it's not a problem. Now here I am... after two jobs that "I had", I am still jobless... :Crash:

Samuel Merritt BSN program waiting list
Bluechick, I am sorry that you have to go through it. It is definitely not pleasant. If it's any consolation, I got my acceptance letter at the end of July or beginning of august. DO NOT lose hope. There are 2 more months before school starts :) Try to relax and occupy yourself with something else. I hate waiting too, but there is absolutely nothing u can do about it. It's out of your control sending good vibes ur way :)

Frustrated New Grad
Thank you for the encouragement :) I know that I am not alone :) What's an "ED school?" Did you have to pay for it? How did it work? Also, what state is it in?

Everyone else is getting their results, Not me!!!!
Congrats :) Me too :)

Frustrated New Grad
thank you very much for the feedback :) jessicaelyse, that sucks... i had a similar situation where i was told that i have the job in the ed where i worked as an rn as soon as i graduate. well... i am still waiting, and it doesn't look promising "i busted my butt in school to get good grades and work in a job that should help me get a job after i graduate but i was graduating in an in-demand field, so i shouldn't have any problems" - this is exactly how i feel and it's really frustrating :angryfire nkara, how do i go about looking for a job like that? also, would i be able to get it without "1 yr. med/surg experience". any pointers will be greatly appreciated :) hopefullicunurse77, thank you very much for the information. i will definitely look into it

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
The trick WORKS!!!! I found out that I passed. I can finally put that RN behind my name :dncgcpd::lghmky::dancgrp::nmbrn: I am in CA and it took me 8 days to find out the official result. When I walked out of the testing center, I thought that I will have to retake it. I was devastated, and the only thing that gave me hope was the trick and all the testimonies on this website. THANK YOU :bowingpur IT WORKS !!!

Frustrated New Grad
I got accepted into a great program for the Master's. I feel VERY fortunate for that, thus I can't really relocate. I don't mind driving a few hours to work, but there are no positions available (that I've seen). APN? wouldn't I have to have master's for that? My RN Intern experience doesn't count for the job purposes, even though I did EVERYTHING RN does. It's really frustrating :selfbonk: I did try other departments. I think that I've applied to at least 50 different positions without any luck

Frustrated New Grad
I have decided that I wanted to become an emergency nurse d/t being a trauma pt 3 1/2 yrs ago :heartbeat. After the recovery I finished all the science classes and got into nursing school. During nursing school I did everything I could to get the best grades and experiences. Graduated with BSN with honors, have BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications, worked as an RN intern in a local ED, where I also did my preceptorship. Wasn't able to get hired there due to the hire freeze in the hospital. I am now going to start a master's program in critical care/trauma this fall. There are no new grad ED positions in NoCal and even if one pops up, there are 200 applicants jumping on it, and the position is probably given to someone who's been doing their internship there. Now I feel like all the work I've done was for nothing, because I can't find a job. I would really appreciate any feedback or insight into what to do. Thank you :bowingpur
