Excelsior grads-
I would like to know- did you HONESTLY feel prepared to be an RN after graduation? I'm starting a 12 month program for my LPN in October and I'm thinking about Excelsior for the RN portion. I'd *like* to get my RN through the school I'm getting my LPN with, but we might be moving out of the area before I could (military). Honest opinions? Also- how much is the tuition for LPN-RN?

ISU BSN question
Hi everyone, How long does it take for an LPN going full time to get their BSN w/ ISU?
-
LPN to RN, BSN, or MSN
If you get your BSN you will be a registered nurse. You will take the NCLEX-RN after you graduate from your BSN program, just like all the others. You will just have had the advantage of getting your LPN 1st. So no, you will not be an LPN w/ a Bachelors degree, you will be an RN w/ a Bachelors degree.

Be prepared for a silly question....!!!
Thanks for the replies everyone! TxStudentRN- you're right, I think the moment I put on scrubs I'll feel like I really made it, LOL:D I just wanted to clarify something though- these definitely weren't promo pictures- they were not on the school website and had no affiliation with the school whatsoever. I put the school's name into a photo hosting site and basically it showed me anyone who had used the name of the school in a picture title. So there were lots of "Me and Jenny in class" and things like that; that prior students put up into their own personal albums, kwim?

Be prepared for a silly question....!!!
Oh trust me, I'd love it. It would definitely make life easier. Just trying to figure out why scrubs were necessary for the classroom.

Be prepared for a silly question....!!!
Do most nursing schools require you to wear scrubs to class? That seems like a very strange concept to me and I can't imagine why it would be necessary- I ask because I searched for the school I'm looking into on Webshots to try and see some pics; there were lots of in class pictures and in them all, the students were in scrubs. What gives?

Class splitting up!
That is sad, I'm sorry you have to split up with your friends, although I feel your choice was wise!

Apollo College- Boise
Hey Tricia, The LPN program is $25,000. What you would need- the bridge program- is only $8,000. Boise doesn't have a special page- program info can't be found online, you have to call. I can't remember who I spoke to but, they will answer your questions. And it's true that the only thing you need is a HS diploma, and for the bridge program an LPN license. If you've got some pre reqs done, then the program will be a little shorter for you. And nope- Spots can't possibly be filled because they don't start enrolling for October until June 17th. I was told if I get in there right away after we move and take ( and pass, obviously) the compass, I should be good to go. Actually we're in Japan right now, we've been stationed @ Kadena for 3 years. We're outta here May 31st! (Taking 30 days vaca en route to Idaho though). Email on the way!

Hi Tricia, I hope we both end up going, how great would it be to have a carpool buddy? I've heard the stretch in between Boise and Mt. Home is terrible in the winter. We are going to live on base if we get offered the brand new housing. Have you seen it?? It's nicer then ANY housing I have ever seen on an Air Force base, and it's nicer then a lot of the homes in the area off base. Let me know if you want to see the email of pics the housing office sent me. I'm really looking forward to getting there. It was our number one pick. As far as nursing goes- I'm really depending on Apollo. Because I just finished a BA and not a BS, I have little to none of the science pre-req's needed for most courses. I really hope I get in right away- I'll be taking the Compass the 1st week of July & applying for an October start.

Apollo College- Boise
Hi there, My military husband recently got orders to Idaho, we'll be heading there in 10 weeks give or take. I'm checking out the LPN & RN programs in the area and finding that the waiting lists are pretty obscene. I just started checking out Apollo. Does anyone know anything about this (besides the fact that it's very expensive- that I already know). Is it true that they don't require pre-req's? I read somewhere on here that they can be taken concurrently. I do have a Bachelor's, but it's in Education so I am missing most of the sciences etc. Is there a waiting list, and does anyone know how often the program starts and the start dates? Thanks so much for any info!

Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state
Soo...maybe your state is one of the ones that already went through? I do know they have had several go through already (though I don't think they're yet accepting out of state students). Who knows- the whole dang thing is so confusing. I am by no means an expert on this whatsoever. I just imagine that the president of the college is not giving out misinformation. If she is... then that college would lose ALL of it's credibility in my book.

Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state
TX: Their ONLINE program has to re-go through the BON's. I personally talked to the president of the program, so I'm 100% the information is COMPLETELY accurate. This only applies to the Online ASN program. They are going to slowly allow students from various states to apply as their home states approve the curriculum. Here are the emails between the president and I...! Hello, I hope you don't mind me emailing a question, I have tried calling and emailing and can't seem to get the same answers. I was super interested in the online ASN program, and was just told it is now for Missouri and Ohio students only for the time being. I was wondering if you could tell me a tentative date for when you will start offering it to other states again? I know about the problems with California, Washington etc.. We are military (stationed overseas) and will be moving to most likely New Mexico in the summer of 2008. I was really hoping to apply for your program that fall. Any kind of information you could give me I would appreciate so much, and again I'm sorry for bothering you. Respectfully, Caitlin ******** Ms. ********: You are absolutely not bothering me. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a timetable, as the approval process and time differs significantly among states. We are actively pursuing approval in most states -- it is simply a matter of how long the process will take. I would suggest checking back with us nearer the time of your application. We can give you a status update at that time, and hope that we will be able to accommodate you. Sincerely, Susan *********

Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state
Ok, I'm going to go back on my post a little. I had a very long, in depth talk with an enrollment advisor at Chamberlain. Then, I called the Maine BON. Here's the gist- It is extremely hard for an online nursing program to make big changes in their program, because they have to go through EVERY state BON. Brick and Mortar colleges don't have to do that. So, Chamberlain just changed and improved their program. Therefore, they're having to be re-cleared through every state. I was told that by Spring 08', they should be back to normal. Maine State BON said that they have had a lot of Chamberlain grads. They consider it a respected program. So I guess... I won't say never. Since I'm applying to schools from Japan, it's going to be tough.. I will most likely use Chamberlain as my fall-back.

Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state
Some are able to go on, others are being asked to either dis-enroll, or come to Missouri or Ohio like once a week which is obviously impossible if you live pretty far away. All these problems lately will definitely make me steer clear of this school whether they get it ironed out or not.

Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state
Just got this from an enrollment adviser @ Chamberlain. Called the school and they confirmed. Bummer. As of Thursday, May 22nd. We are no longer taking any applications from anyone that lives out of the state of Missouri or Ohio. This is due to a change in our clinical program and us having to be recleared through every state board of nursing in every state. We will not be accepting any applications until we have finalized everything with the State Board of Nursing in each state. Until then we cannot admit anyone who doesn't live in Missouri or Ohio, which is where our campuses are. I just found out about this.

Nik Nik, You're in Missouri so I truly wouldn't worry about the program. I think it will be great for you, congratulations!! The Dean is still "reviewing my files" and making a decision on whether they will allow me to begin in March or not (since I will still be in Japan). They said I should hear in about 2 weeks. KrisC, I'm so sorry you're going through such a process. What state are you in again, if you don't mind me asking? When I first inquired, my enrollment adviser listed 7 states for me right away, and said if I thought I'd ever live in one I should reconsider. Only 2 of them flat out wouldn't allow Chamberlain, the other 5 DO, but are being VERY difficult about clinicals.

NurseChick- I'm not sure if you can work in them or not, I don't believe so though. I do know people that live in them can't attend Chamberlain because those states won't allow them to do the clinicals.

Hi MaddenKim, we're going home in 2008 too- May. Kristy actually is the one I finally talked to as well. She has been really helpful in working with the school trying to get them to allow me to start. She emailed the Dean saying that I want to start in March of 08', and that because by the time we move home I will still have a lot of time before clinicals- that I should be able to start overseas. The only reason they don't want you to is the hospitals have non-Americans employed with them, so if I'm not doing clinicals here it shouldn't matter. We'll see I guess. They said I'd hear by Friday. As for the states, it does stink but fortunetly I don't need to worry about it. My husband has a rare job and there is no way we would ever be stationed in one of those states luckily. Good luck to you and your big decision! (BTW, Monterey is beautiful. My brother is in the Air Force and is in Linguist school there. He's in the top of his class so they are sending him to study in Egypt for a month this summer!)

Thanks Ladies! I posted that ? before I got your PM Kris, but regardless I am so relieved to hear it is every 16 weeks, phew! They are driving me a little bit wacky though. All I want to do is talk to an admissions person. I call, and one is never available. I get the "someone will call you in 24 hours". No one has ever called back. And tonight I got the "We will send you some info in the mail". Hello? I'm in Japan, can't you just email me?? LOL. I wish I just had the direct email to someone!
