  1. how many of you use sugar in the open chest? That ia regular table sugar
  2. Good luck! Hope you have some solid way of taking care of yourself. These are all great stories, soon you'll have your own. I worked in the OKC bombing, in the PICU...............as much as that was in the news, it might have seemed easy to forget that those kind of patients/ miracles/heart breaks happen everyday in the PICU. It's an amazing place to be.
  3. I was a PICU nurse for 12 years, only knew of one drug problem, now in the ED, there have been several over the past 3 years......I would have to wonder about that manager though......

We also have to do this, takes too much time, parents often don't know the names or amts of the meds that their kids are taking. Look this up on the ENA website, they're pushing hard to not have this required in the ED. Our physicians refuse to sign the forms, but the nurses are written up if the forn is not completed. One more nutty thing to take the nurse away from the bedside.
  5. check with your board, it's out of our scope of practice in my state. We use it on kids, under age 14, bad reactions on older kids.Recent studies are questioning the long tern effects on kids.
  6. wow, after one of the worst days in th ER, thinking about leaving......my mind says go, but my heart won't let go, .........are those folks really out there that care about what we do? is this what burned out is, or is this just what beat up is about?
