Rumor has it, Lenox Hill Hospital is CLOSING
Which union is that?

Which is better? 1199 or NYSNA
I understand that this is your opinion but in my humble opinion, this is ABSOLUTELY not true.... 1199 represents Nurses just as well, if not better than any other healthcare union. Just compare contract settlements...... Although it is true that 1199 represents a larger population of non nurses, they take pride in the nurses that they do represent and they have a separate division of the union that deals with nurses and issues specific to us.

CNA training
the classes are going good. i attend them on the weekends. right now i am in the cna component of the nurse tech program. abc is a very good trainng program and i would highly recommend it. it is a bit pricey but its worth it imo. the cna is 8 weekends (sat & sun). the ekg & phleb component is also 8 weekends (sat & sun) i will most likely begin work as a cna before i finish the ekg & phleb portion ($1025 app.) of the program. hope this helps... by the way, there are plenty of schools out there that have a cheaper program though...

1199 question
Well if it makes you feel any better... Most CUNY & SUNY schools are about $120 - $160 per credit... which works out to about $720-$960 for 6 credits. So ... your hospital is doing great!!!

1199 question
You have to be a member of the Union for 1 year before you are eligible for any Tuition reimbursemet/ tuition voucher. They pay upfront for CUNY/SUNY schools via voucher. They give you tuition reimbursement for non CUNY/SUNY schools. The union pays for /reimburses up to 8 credits per semester only if you are in a RN program. If you are completing your pre reqs, the union will only pay for/reimburse up to 6 credits.

CNA training
Well ... it was my understanding that they (ABC) would call the hospitals/nursing homes on my behalf. They have built relationships with these facilities over the years and it is supposedly better than me just applying on my own. But I'm not there yet.. I will post when I am. It is also my understanding that nurse techs get paid more than CNA's. The work is similar but you get extra for that additional EKG/phleb cert. Hope this was helpful...

CNA training
I just started the nurse tech course at ABC on Fordham Road. The program consists of the CNA class, the EKG class & the phlebotomy class for a grand total of 2135... yes i know... very very expensive but they are an excellent program & they have very good job placement after the program is done. I figured that I might as well bite the bullet & do the program so that I can work as a Nurse Tech while I take my nursing classes (I start Sept '07...yay) The program is 16 weeks total ( I go on Sat & Sun from 9-4) ... They have a fast track program that lasts about 8 weeks that is full time in the day. Here in NYC, a nurse tech can make $18/hour. (Oh yeah...The CNA course is about 1200 by itself).

Westchester Community Coll.
Carleah, Is it true that if you complete the WCC LPN program, you only have to complete three more semesters of the WCC RN program??? Were you able to work during the program? Did you complete the pre reqs before you started the program or did you do them during the program? Just curious...

cont from above.... I also went to a nursing seminar @ WCC in April and I think that the reason why it is so difficult to get into the program is because the college only takes the top 60 highest scores for the both the day program and the evening program. If you don't get a high enough score for the RN program, you have an opportunity to enroll in the LPN program. ( I think that the cutoff in 2006 was about 78%) I believe that about 400 people apply each year. Don't quote me though. And the extremely low tuition ( $140/credit) definitely makes it popular. The clinical times are very convenient for most students. These times include Friday 3-11pm, Saturday 7am - 3pm, Sunday 7am to 3pm... Hope that this helps

Hi! I have recently applied to the the WCC RN program. I took the TEAS test in April & I think I did pretty good (90%). Hopefully well enough to get into the program. I think that they send out the acceptances in May. (cross my fingers). I never thought about applying to Cochran. I am going to look into that today. I also applied to Rockland Community College. I heard that (on this board) TEAS scores @ WCC's RN program for 2006 was about 85-96%. Good Luck
