  1. Thank you all for all your comments and words of wisdom. I had great days these last few days. I am loving it so far--learning new things. Today I got to work in the trauma rooms and I loved it!!!!!!!! there are things I am not familiar with , but I think I will get through it. I was told be the charge nurse and manager that I am doing a good job-- so that was cool to hear.
  2. Hello I have been a med/surg nurse for a little over a year and just transferred to an ED position. I find the transition a little hard and overwhelming at times. I thought that if I got the med/surg experience it would be easy, however I feel like a new grad again!!!!!!!! Feel like I don't know anything. The pace is faster in the ED and very intense b/c you don't know what the dx is for the pt. In med/surg the pt already had a dx so you kind of had an idea of what your plan of care would be for that pt. ED is totally different!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the floor I got to spend more time with pts--in the ED it's different-- or maybe it is just me trying to adjust. Any advise or words of wisdom would be helpful and appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I applied to the SFSU Generic Masters RN prg and originally got a rejection letter. I then called and asked if they can hold my application for the next application process. Well little did I know they put me on the waiting list and I got a call the week before the program started with good news. This is now my last year in the program. So don't give up hope. I will cross my fingers for you/ :caduceus:
  4. HELLO, I AM CURRENTLY A NEW GRAD IN THE MED/SURG DEPARTMENT. WHEN I FIRST STARTED I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE CARE OF 5 PATIENTS AND STILL THINK THAT. I AM CURRENTLY UP TO 3 PATIENTS AND FEEL THAT I AM DOING OK. MY PRECEPTOR IS AWSOME, HOWEVER SHE IS NOW ON VACATION. THE LAST 2 DAYS I HAVE HAD 2 DIFFERENT NURSES PRECEPT ME AND THOSE DAYS HAVE BEEN HELL FOR ME. IT GOT BAD TO THE POINT WHERE I JUST WANTED TO CRY. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS D/T THE TYPES OF PATIENT I HAD OR THEIR STYLE OF TEACHING. ONE NURSE JUST BOMBARDED ME WITH NEW ORDERS WHICH THREW ME OFF AND TOTALLY MESSED UP MY ROUTINE. THE ONE TODAY WOULDN'T LET ME GIVE MEDS WITHOUT HER IN THE ROOM AND MAINLY USED ME AS HELP FOR HER. THESE 2 DAYS LIKE I SAID WERE HELL AND HAS MADE ME QUESTION IF MED/SURG IS FOR ME. :angryfire I DON'T THINK THAT HAVING THE RATIO OF 1:5 WOULD PROVIDE THE PATIENT WITH THE CARE AND SERVICES THAT THEY NEED. IT IS KIND OF SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE PATIENTS EXPERIENCING VTACH AND ETC... SOMETIMES I AM SO BUSY WITH ONE PT AND FEEL THAT MY OTHER PATIENTS ARE NEGLECTED. JUST FEEL SO OVERWHELMED AND OUT OF ENERGY. :smackingf
  5. Thanks Today I felt a little better. I am working with 2 pts now and next week maybe with 3. Both of my pts were total care. one had this major wound with a vac dressing(that needed changing) and my other was a very anemic pt that needed a transfusion. I got the med part done as far as documenting, but my charting is where I fall behind. Also the telemetry is a bit hard b/c I have not gotten tele certified yet. I know it will get better. Feels good to know that there are nice folks as you all that gives me hope and encouragement. love this website!!!!!!!!!!1 abundantjoy07 how is the ER going?
  6. Thanks for your encouragement. Really means a lot. Will keep you posted. bubba04 :chair:

  9. hello, I am in a new grad program at kaiser in the med/surg department. I have been on the floor for a couple of days and feel very lost and overwhelmed!!!!!! :smackingf The real world of nursing is way different than when I was a nursing student. I feel that I am not organized and all over the place. the training program is 8 weeks long. I feel that 8 weeks is not enough--at least that is what I say now. Does it get better?? easier?? any advise is very much appreciated. thanks bubba04:nurse:

  14. My friend started a new grad prog in Feb at SF general with the starting pay of 45 and another friend of mine at CPMC is starting at $44.57.
  15. danilo-- any news yet?? have my fingers crossed for you. have you tried calling to see if there is a delay?? sometimes background checks delay the whole process?? Like i said b4 I had a friend who waited 3 weeks -- and it was good news. waiting is the worst. just hang in there you have all of us supporting you
  16. Hey Mark, Well I was born at Kaiser SFO and have been a pt since birth. i love my plan. very user friendly. you can email your doctors, set up appointments and refill rx online. appointments are easy to get. I had my son here and had very great nurses and doctors. only one time i had a bad experience with a doctor who had no bedside manners (when I was a teenager). as for as the doctors being caring --(fr my experiences) my mom's doctor calls the house to f/u on her meds and to see how she is doing. my doctor calls when i don't have a test done that she ordered. so yeah there are great doctors that are caring and concerned about people's health. I have seen some nurses here who do not provide the best care to pt's, and should be reported, but all you can do is write them up or call a hotline. having done my clinicals at KP i have seen nurses and doctors provied quality care to patients and of course there are some that do not provide good care, but you find that everywhere. I have not worked as a nurse yet --will start in the summer. and yes i believe that i will be able to provide quality care within the system. in the lab(where i currently work at) we meet the turn around time for results almost all the time. this helps the nurses and docs in implementing the type of care needed for the pts. We make it a big deal when we do not meet the turn around time and try to figure out ways to improve. I know that some people have nothing but bad things to say about kp, but like i said earlier, i love it here. hope this helps
  17. I have worked for kaiser in the lab for 10 years and love it. the benefits are great!!! I just got a job in the LD department and the staff is great as well. i have nothing but great things to say about kaiser. they have a lot of new grad programs for new nurses that are all year round. good luck
  18. I took it 2 times and it also took a while for me to get my results. just hang in there. there are many reasons why results could be delayed. just relax and treat yourself to something good.
  19. I know how you feel.. I took mines on 4/13 for the second time and found out this morning that I passed. my name appeared on the website. a couple of my friends waited 2-3 weeks to get thier results. so just hang in there!!!!!! good luck :monkeydance:
  20. The first time I took the test it took 5 weeks for them to send me a letter saying that I did not pass. I just took the test a little over a week ago and I just found out on the BON that I passed!!!!! so just wait. there can be many reasons why your results can be delayed. it took one of my classmates 6 weeks to find out that she passed. hang in there you guys.
  21. It is frustrating!!!!:angryfire I too did not pass-- I took kaplan, did saunders, nclex for dummies----and etc... I think that some of us freak out during the test which affects our results. I am now just taking yoga and studying2-3 hours a day and just telling myself everyday that I will pass. So will you. Don't give up and don't feel depress. remember you are not the only one. there are many excellent nurses who didn't pass on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd try. Keep trying
  22. Nursing school is tuff, people underestimate it. it is tuffer when you have kids and have bills, but with determination anything is possible. It doesn't matter if you pass your classes with C's in the courses as long as you pass. When you interview for jobs they are not going to ask for your transcripts. The questions on the NCLEX are a little harder and trickier. they make it hard for you to cut your answers down to just 2 possible answers..plus I hate computerized tests. Some of my classmates who barely pass the courses in my program have passed the nclex. you just have to know your pathophysio and med surg really good. I took the Nclex-rn. hope this helps
  23. I took my test in feb of 07. my name never popped up on the BON..then 4 weeks later I got the bad news in the mail. i just took the nclex this past friday and did not see my name on the BON so I am assuming that I will get that letter again. I have heard that some people get the good new via mail and that it just takes longer for them to process the results. hopefully that will be my case for the second time around. good luck to all of us.
  24. Everything you said is how I feel right now. I took the test 2x's. the first time I had 265 q's and felt crappy. this second time I had 120 q's. My name doesn't appear on the BON, so I am guessing I failed again. hope you get good news soon. feels good that I am not the only one feeling this way.....
  25. Hello all, I know how you feel. I took the NCLEX in feb o7 and then this past week. the first time with 265 questions and the second time with 120 questions. I feel like I know my stuff, but someone mentioned is the careful reading of the questions. many times during the test I realized , after I hit the next bottom, that I mis-read the questions and put the wrong answer. In addition to studying, those of us who have not passed the test need to learn some relaxation techniques. I know I do b/c I instantly freak out once the test starts. don't give up and keep your head up.
