From med/surg to ED nursing
Thank you all for all your comments and words of wisdom. I had great days these last few days. I am loving it so far--learning new things. Today I got to work in the trauma rooms and I loved it!!!!!!!! there are things I am not familiar with , but I think I will get through it. I was told be the charge nurse and manager that I am doing a good job-- so that was cool to hear.

From med/surg to ED nursing
Hello I have been a med/surg nurse for a little over a year and just transferred to an ED position. I find the transition a little hard and overwhelming at times. I thought that if I got the med/surg experience it would be easy, however I feel like a new grad again!!!!!!!! Feel like I don't know anything. The pace is faster in the ED and very intense b/c you don't know what the dx is for the pt. In med/surg the pt already had a dx so you kind of had an idea of what your plan of care would be for that pt. ED is totally different!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the floor I got to spend more time with pts--in the ED it's different-- or maybe it is just me trying to adjust. Any advise or words of wisdom would be helpful and appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

**FREAKING out*** SFSU/Canada BSN program
I applied to the SFSU Generic Masters RN prg and originally got a rejection letter. I then called and asked if they can hold my application for the next application process. Well little did I know they put me on the waiting list and I got a call the week before the program started with good news. This is now my last year in the program. So don't give up hope. I will cross my fingers for you/ :caduceus:

New Grad Med/surg Adjustment
HELLO, I AM CURRENTLY A NEW GRAD IN THE MED/SURG DEPARTMENT. WHEN I FIRST STARTED I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE CARE OF 5 PATIENTS AND STILL THINK THAT. I AM CURRENTLY UP TO 3 PATIENTS AND FEEL THAT I AM DOING OK. MY PRECEPTOR IS AWSOME, HOWEVER SHE IS NOW ON VACATION. THE LAST 2 DAYS I HAVE HAD 2 DIFFERENT NURSES PRECEPT ME AND THOSE DAYS HAVE BEEN HELL FOR ME. IT GOT BAD TO THE POINT WHERE I JUST WANTED TO CRY. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS D/T THE TYPES OF PATIENT I HAD OR THEIR STYLE OF TEACHING. ONE NURSE JUST BOMBARDED ME WITH NEW ORDERS WHICH THREW ME OFF AND TOTALLY MESSED UP MY ROUTINE. THE ONE TODAY WOULDN'T LET ME GIVE MEDS WITHOUT HER IN THE ROOM AND MAINLY USED ME AS HELP FOR HER. THESE 2 DAYS LIKE I SAID WERE HELL AND HAS MADE ME QUESTION IF MED/SURG IS FOR ME. :angryfire I DON'T THINK THAT HAVING THE RATIO OF 1:5 WOULD PROVIDE THE PATIENT WITH THE CARE AND SERVICES THAT THEY NEED. IT IS KIND OF SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE PATIENTS EXPERIENCING VTACH AND ETC... SOMETIMES I AM SO BUSY WITH ONE PT AND FEEL THAT MY OTHER PATIENTS ARE NEGLECTED. JUST FEEL SO OVERWHELMED AND OUT OF ENERGY. :smackingf

new grad with 1st nursing job
Thanks Today I felt a little better. I am working with 2 pts now and next week maybe with 3. Both of my pts were total care. one had this major wound with a vac dressing(that needed changing) and my other was a very anemic pt that needed a transfusion. I got the med part done as far as documenting, but my charting is where I fall behind. Also the telemetry is a bit hard b/c I have not gotten tele certified yet. I know it will get better. Feels good to know that there are nice folks as you all that gives me hope and encouragement. love this website!!!!!!!!!!1 abundantjoy07 how is the ER going?

hello, I am in a new grad program at kaiser in the med/surg department. I have been on the floor for a couple of days and feel very lost and overwhelmed!!!!!! :smackingf The real world of nursing is way different than when I was a nursing student. I feel that I am not organized and all over the place. the training program is 8 weeks long. I feel that 8 weeks is not enough--at least that is what I say now. Does it get better?? easier?? any advise is very much appreciated. thanks bubba04:nurse:
