CA RN on probation, BRN pending RN position
go to as many Nurse Support groups as possible and both the nurses and the Support Group leader will tell you all of the current hospitals hiring probationary RNs I promise you there are many facilities that will hire! There is a nationwide shortage of RNs and this shortage will continue to worsen over the years. We are in high demand. Best of luck.

CA RN on probation, BRN pending RN position
I had strangers help me in life when I was going through my darkest times. Now I help them. Life is circular. We all help each other and will all need help at different times. I can never adequately return the favor of all the kindness and support I received from strangers when I was going through this (and dealing w/ some other tough life stuff) but I'm always willing to provide as much support as possible.

agreed, all the nurses in the groups are supportive and nice. You'll get through this and the nurse support groups will be your BEST source for information and support Nurses are in such short demand all over the U.S., especially CA Be upfront about your story, work hard, self reflect, see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was in such a dark place when I started probation but I emerged from it a better person, and I have NEVER had a problem finding a job

Probation in another state
CA BRN sucks balls. Complete idiocracy that they tell you to get mental and physical exam but can't provide approved doctors.

Have you started attending Nurse support groups? You should find a ton of resources regarding jobs there. They are definitely out there. Dialysis centers and psych units for sure Look into some of the Tenet hospitals too. They used to be and I believe they still are Probation friendly. Best of luck to you. I have a lot of Nurse contacts in that area so feel free to send me a private message if you need more hospitals or resources. SCH hospital too (Culver City)

yay that is awesome! probation is not so bad once you get used to it. I was so worried I would never get hired again with this 'mark' on my license. After completing probation I applied for a nursing job (in PA). During the phone interview I told the hiring manager about my story ( probation, what I learned from it, and the fact that I now lead an abstinent life) and her only response was 'congratulations...when can you start....' I started that job earlier this year and life is good. Best of luck to all

it's fairly easy to get disability for anxiety or depression (in CA), they often go hand in hand with substance use. It merely takes knowing which providers are more apt to recommend it. Nursing support groups should have info on which providers to go to

I'm sorry to hear that, it definitely sounds frustrating. Can you apply for disability? Just a thought. Hang in there and best of luck

Can Contact his/her manager If you are in California, the Probation manager should be either (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) or (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME)

Not sure what 'more info' means as that is very open ended. Ask me specific questions and I will give you specific answers ( if I know them.)

for anyone still waiting on BRN job approval: have any of you considered applying for disability in meantime? CA is very liberal with disability and the max (no tax on it) is over $5,000 a month. I have been in contact with MANY CA diversion/probation nurses and many of us have done this to minimize financial hardship (myself included). Can get disability for up to a year (I did this). Nurse support groups should have info on which MD's are easy to obtain disability from and if anyone is in OC area I can provide insight. Feel free to contact me for more info and best of luck. You will get through this. I did, .... and came out a much stronger, improved version of myself.

I believe the wait is up to 3 months now (sad, I know) due to staffing issues etc You could always email probation monitor for status update. I wouldn't contact probation manager unless that fails (mangers are {PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES PER TOS})….. easy to get on their bad side (shouldn't be like that but it is)

Finding a job while on probation
I've seen a lot of probation nurses get jobs with dialysis and case management. Maybe try a different dialysis company?? Best of luck

Has anyone ever had their California probation tolled?
PDRN: were you able to get a free and clear license in any other states while your CA license was on tolled status?

CA Diversion
Hi Debbie is your nursing license in CA or AZ? CA is amongst the strictest in terms of putting license on probation/diversion for ANY substance related charge. AZ not so much. for a DUI related charge there’s a good chance they will put your license on probation or offer you diversion diversion is very tough but the good thing is it doesn’t go on your license I have networked with TONS of nurses over the years and I guess I’m becoming a bit of a resource for anyone that has questions about the program. If you need more questions answered you’re welcome to contact me. I was good friends with a nurse NP who’s license was on probation for a DUI she got off after two years as she terminated for early probation and she’s doing great you’re welcome to email me for more info: [email protected]

Finding a job while on probation
It is a black mark (particularly if probation and not diversion), I won’t lie. But nurses are in SUCH high demand, and the demand continues to increase. You shouldn’t have a problem getting a job although it may take a bit more searching. Having good references, being forthcoming about your past, and a good work ethic with positive employment reviews will help Best of luck All of this changed me for the better

The BRN should be able to tell you their list of approved providers doing mental health assessments. That’s what your form looks like if you have trouble getting a list from them, ask individuals in your local nurse support group. They (particularly the group leader) should know. Support groups can be found on BRN probationer website Dr. ----------------(spelling??) in Orange County is one, but you should have MDs in your area

Has anyone ever had their California probation tolled?
I tolled mine Ask your attorney about surrender if you don't ever plan to go back to CA....I would specifically ask if your surrender means your license goes on the OIG list. Can refer you to a good attorney if need be. I have found they are not all good!! My attorney: Scott Harris, Beverly Hills. Excellent and really cares

Probation in another state
HI there, I successfully completed probation in CA for 2 DUIs. Now applying for a license in PA. Wondering if anyone knows whether or not my license will go on probation in PA as well. Any feedback welcome!! PS if anyone needs info on probation... I'm your girl. CA BRN tried to **** with me and give me 2 more years based on a few 'technical errors' of theirs. I lawyered up, sent my lawyer an OVERWHELMING amount of evidence supporting my cause (almost 200 pieces of documentation) and I ended up winning my case. I won....against the CA BRN. Not easy. The end result shaped me irrevocably....for the better. It has taken me a long time to overcome my shame and fear and realize that while I made mistakes, I am NOT my mistakes.
