Yep- I'm there! went also to N.O. last year- was not impressed with the town, and this was before the 'cane, but I hate humidity! Have been to Vegas before, so will (hopefully) like my off time better. The Conference was FAB though! Aimee

I am going also- I live in Nebraska so will be flying in (thanks dad!). Am also taking the Med Surg certification- is there a book or something I should be looking for? Also want to take Larakoko up on her offer- am looking for "authentic" cuisine- not the tourist places. I love seafood and am pretty adventurous, but hubby likes meat and potatoes. Would be up for any suggestions (no- I won't try crawfish!) thanks for the replies in advance! Aimee

I know where my aversion to mucous came from- I had a male roommate in college, and he had a cold. While I was at work, he proceeded to fill up 3 or four glasses with water and then coughed his nasty sputum into those. Worse- he LEFT for the weekend, and didn't even dump them out! I am no great housekeeper, but I truly couldn't let those sit around on the floor, and so spent an hour dumping mucous into the toilet and bleaching these glasses. I still gag and have trouble swallowing when I think about it, and I graduated in 1994. I also had another male roommate (good for changing lightbulbs and providing protection, but bad about cleaning!) who was a cowboy, and while cleaning one day, I found a spit cup under the couch that had not been emptied for a week at least. GAG!! He was telling me that he was once driving with his sister, and had a can for drinking and a can for spitting, you guessed it- he mixed them up and ended up drinkning his old nasty tobacco spit!! He could always gross me out!

I would say fluid volume deficit r/t blood loss (somewhere) as well as drains, and the high pressures may be her body's way of compensating for it. Our hospital starts transfusing at 9.0, and she is losing a point a day, 36 hours and she will be critical enough to transfuse. 4 days post op she should be climbing a bit, not still falling. Just my thoughts!

I'm not normally a person who spooks easily, but I do believe in the supernatural- my mom says that if there is anything to see or hear, I would be the one who was "open" enough to see/hear it. Anyway, last week at our hospital (I work Med-Surg-Ortho) we had an unusual number of "Dr. Armstrong" calls and Emergency placements from the ER for the Psych ward. One guy got loose from the police, got tasered twice, and was put into 4-points before psych ward would take him. He came in telling the police he killed someone, covered in blood, and wearing clothes that couldn't be his (he's 6'8''). After he went to psych, got 5-6 more EPC's (for a town of 25,000 when college is in, that's a bunch!) then nothing. Our hospital is named for a young woman who died young. "Mary" has been seen on many floors, and usually is not a problem. I had thought I had seen her out of the corner of my eye several times, but never had an "experience" with her. I worked last Sunday (the day after the ER was hammered) and was getting a resident up for lunch when something cold touched my arm. I jumped and checked with my aide to see if she had seen anything or the resident had touched me, and nothing. As soon as I went back to getting the resident up, I was grabbed again. I didn't think anything of it, but then my confused pneumonia patient kept carrying on entire conversations with someone (no one in room, as he was in a camera observation room), and he kept saying he didn't get her name, but she just left. I told the aide if I found out it was Mary, I would be screaming! (I work days, so all of this in broad daylight). The aide was helping someone on the other side of the hall from the bathroom, stopped to wash their hands. The aide always checks the faucets to make sure they are off. The resident and aide walk back to bed, get about 10 feet away, and the water comes on. The resident even questioned the aide as to how that happened. They both saw the water off, and then Mary turned it on. The good thing is that Mary seems to be benevolent, and no one passed that day (although I was sure the poo was going to hit the fan!) :uhoh21:

I should also note that while I only have 6 posts, I've been lurking around and read the board every day - so am not a newbie nor am I looking for medical advice (for future posters). Just any experiences or knowledge of this. Thanks so much! :)

I am a BSN nurse in Med Surg, and I didn't like OB much during school (more power to you all!) which is maybe why I don't remember any more risks. My sister has a 4 year old daughter who was born via emergency C-section for an abruptio. The little bugger also tried to put her foot through mom's uterus. All is well now, but fast forward to last nnight, when my sister tells me that she is having triplets! I am just curious as to any stats about possible recurrent abruptio. The babies are all in their own sac (she took fertility drugs) and all is well so far, but she is seeing a specialist at about 20 weeks and from then on (lives in a small town). Any and all info is appreciated, as are prayers! Thanks- Aimee

I am currently in a 1 year Advanced Nursing Curriculum program with Creighton University here in Nebraska. I attend via teleconference from my hometown, and the local hospital is paying for my tuition (all 25,000 of it) for the year in exchange for working for them for three years. After the three years, I am free to change jobs. If I leave before the three years are up, I will owe them a percentage of my tuition costs.
